Best Deal for Dyson Hairdryer - David Jones 10% off gift voucher + AMEX offer

Hi all,

My girlfriend wants the silly expensive Dyson Hairdryer. First up, I agree with anyone who says, "why would you spend that much on a hairdryer?" but since she will do it either way I wanted to check how it might be best be done.

I was hoping to use 2 x AMEX deals ($30 off $200 = 15% discount) + $100 gift card @ 10% off to get a final cost of $430, but it seems that you can only use 1 credit card + gift cards (not sure if you can use more than 1 gift card).

If you can use multiple gift cards, I could get 2 more @ 10% off and the final saving would be $60 instead of $70 with cost of $440.

Anyone got any better ideas?

Cheers

EDIT - worked out an alternative way to do this.
Buy 2 items ~$200 and then return them for exchange of another item. Will let you know if that works.

My girlfriend wants the silly expensive Dyson Hairdryer. First up, I agree with anyone who says, "why would you spend that much on a hairdryer?"

It's a valid question, but having tried one at a friend's place (yes, I also asked her why she'd buy one in the first place), it's pretty amazing. As in I have basically a crew cut and it's still amazing. So I guess for a girl with long hair it might actually be worth it.

    • Can you please elaborate? Is it so powerful, or so hot, or noiseless? I've never seen one in action :/

      • It's powerful, but I think the main point (again - this is anecdotal from my friend and myself trying it for a few seconds) is its temperature control which keeps the level of the heat stable at a point just below burning your scalp off. As in you should be able to point it at one section of hair, without moving, and you won't burn yourself or your hair.

Test it out in stores - I think JB-Hifi and The Good Guys usually have units out on display you can try.

        • Ah.. I see, thanks. Is it noisy?

I'll check it out next time I'm in the store.

        • @purplelady: It makes some noise but far better, and it's a smoother (?) sound than most other hairdryers I've come across. (Again - I'm a guy with short hair so that's not a lot of comparison).

I'd say it's a bit like how the sound of a Dyson vacuum compares to a non-Dyson vacuum, maybe even a little quieter comparatively, to non-Dyson hairdryers.

        • @HighAndDry: Got it. Thanks!

Yes, her hair does look great when she's used one (friends), but is that worth that much more?

Also, call me sceptical, but I'm not sure I believe her statement that a Dyson will equal less trips to the hair salon. ;-)

How much is her happiness worth to you? Maybe more relevantly - how much is the peace of mind of her not having a bad hair day worth to you? ;)

(And oh no - I put "hair salon trips" in the same category for my gf as things like food, water, massages/spa days, etc)

Enough for me to buy it for her at a discount rather than her buying it at full price…

@973728: You wouldn't belong here otherwise!

  • more 10% gift card then cash rewards?

if you can afford to wait a bit longer, when Bing Lee/The Good Guys starting their regular 20% off sales, you can score it for $399. from memory the cheapest was around $340 but you have to be lucky

    • Thanks for suggestion. Any idea when they are? Main reason for the rush was AMEX offer expiring.

Order physical gift cards from DJ website with your Amex Offer before Sunday to qualify for free shipping. Then use these gift cards for hairdryer.

    • True, I saw the 'egiftcard' exclusion and didn't think about ordering physical.

EDIT: Gift cards excluded from delivery and thus $5 delivery reducing saving to 12.5%. Suppose it's better than 10!

  • Has anyone got experience with Gift cards and David Jones - can you enter multiple?

    • Yes, up to either five or ten online and unlimited in store.

Man that's some dedication. Yeah let us know if it works.

If you can wait 3 weeks for the Vogue/Amex deal to go live: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/392060 , you may be able to buy from DJs in-store and stack with some statement credits.

  • If you haven’t ordered it I have a 25% off code with Dyson for this weekend from the toddler baby show and it includes the hairdryer and all the accessories. pM me.
