Remember when Lego was for kids?

    • +38

naaaaa, i barely recall what i had for dinner last night :)

    • +24

I remember spending hours poring over the catalogues and dreaming of the big expensive sets as a kid.

Now that I'm an adult I can actually buy them.

      • +41

        $1100.00

For a thousand bucks, even as an adult I can't afford Lego :/

        • +1

Yeah not this one in particular, mainly because it's way too huge to store / display.

        • +9

@Merlict: The cost of the lego is minor. The cost of an extra room just for Lego is the expensive part.

        • @Merlict:

I would need a new dining table to display this. Then I would need a new room for the dining table. Ah, lets just get a new house. House prices are dropping anyway and I can just park the millennial falcon in the garage.

        • +1

@mathew42: Agree. Same problem here except for the spare room; we just don't have one! Minimal room left in bedrooms when you add tall display cabinets and umpteen plastic tubs. Only reason I do not buy any more for son. Bought the Death Star last year and still don't have a suitable storage space …

No room in the garage either, least of all for a vehicle.

        • +3

@jonow83: Surely the millennial falcon would be happier if you moved back into your parents' place and blew all your savings on smashed avo breakfasts?

        • @Merlict: There are ways to mount it vertically on a wall with a monitor arm, fairly straightforward.

      • +42

but instead of your mum, now your wife wont let you.

      • -5

Just buy Lepin. Fraction of the cost and 95% as good.

There is even a conspiracy theory that Lego are funding them for poorer countries because both companies release new sets at the same time.

    • Is it more fun or complex to assemble?

    • yep.
Those same kids are now adults spending 1100 on toys

      • +4

        At least mine vibrates :P

      • +1

Better value for money than wasting one's pennies at the TAB … or other online gambling venues. At least it should hold it's value; not many things do that today.

    • +2

was expansive back when i was a kid. I still have all my lego from the 1980's with the blue lego box.

      • Damn, that blue brief case? I found mine the other day filled with stamps.

        • yep, the blue one. mine still has my lego.

  • +1

    Delivery kills it

    • i agree, 0.9% of total cost is ludicrous

    • +7

Guaranteed to get there in 12 parsecs though.

      • No you misread. It's $10 per 12 parsecs.

      • -4

It's being shipped from beta virginis?

    • Free delivery on the Falcon

  • +5

i won one of these in card game on bespin, fair and square

    • Only slow on the uptakes like Greedo would disagree with you.

  • +1

oh my god that Technic Bugatti W16 moving piston engine. I was stoked with my 2 cylinder boxer motor I put in every car I built.

Too bad it all just gets covered up :(

Hmmm Millennium Falcon or divorce?…. decisions, decisions…

    • +1

It's not even a decision on the scale of full fat or skimmed milk.

      • +4

I just want milk that tastes like real milk

    • +3

"or divorce"? So if you buy the Falcon you'll be saving the marriage?

      • +3

I think that's what he's planning to say to his wife: gemme Millennium Falcon or I divorce!!

    • +10

Only problem is when she takes half of it.

      • +7

Hopefully she'd be reasonable and accept full custody of the children in exchange for her half of the Falcon.

      • +3

You loose your beloved Falcon, you get depressed and struggling with family issues from your wife and son, ended up moving far away from them doing odd jobs here and there. One day, some kids turns up with your Falcon at your job, looks like they stole it. You develop a good relationship with the those kids but only to get killed by your own son while your best friend watches.

I think they should make a movie about this.

        • I think there is a story coming on.

      • She can have half… sprinkled all over the floor.

    • Why not have both ?

    • At least you can tell your wife she knows where you are and you've blown the beer budget for the month.

      • weekly budget.

        • Oops! 😃
          Well Lego is healthier.

    • Huh?

Buy the millennium falcon, the divorce comes with it.

      • Great value for money. Free divorce hey!

  • Very good price for Falcon. Got one last year when they re-released it, still in the box and I think that's where it will stay…

    • That's an expensive display box.

        • it's a bubble, wait no … it's a lego, wait no … i am confused.

        • +6

Not all the time. Sets have longer runs than they used to. First UCS Falcon was 'only' available for 3 years, earlier Creator Modulars shorter than that. These days, they sit around and regularly go at 25% Myer sales.

Investing in Lego isn't a sure bet, return is low unless you have a keen eye on desirability, production runs, etc.

        • +1

@Strand0410: not to mention the fact you have to actually sell it at all to realise any of that value.

        • @Strand0410: Worst case scenario you get some sweet lego to play with.

        • @dufflover: The difference between "investing" in lego and say crypto or beanie babies is that lego actually has some utility beyond selling it to other rubes.

    • Yes, the true collectors buy 2; one to build and the other unopened as an investment to pay for the first one.

    • Sounds like a fun life…
I bought an x-box over christmas holidays, left it in the box.
Didn't eat my easter eggs either…

Sucks for people who are 99 years or older

      Yoda needs more training.

  • i was able to select the free shipping option when checking out. I still havent confirmed the purchase as im deciding haha

    • +3

      bought one :(

      • typo? :)

        • +1

no, its becasue im spending too much on things i dont really need, but want. But this is a nice set. Will take some time until they sell these for less than $499.

        • +2

          @Bruno28:

Hopefully that feeling fades when the postman delivers your Falcon. The thought of a middle aged man sobbing with regret while hunched over 7500 pieces of lego Falcon is a little depressing (yet strangely amusing at the same time).

          enjoy

      • So… it’s a good deal

    Thanks bought 10.

    their website says:
    SHIPPING
FREE SHIPPING, shopforme is proud to offer free shipping on orders over AUD $200 to anywhere in Australia (excluding orders to WA & NT)

    • Yeah, I'm reading shipping cost issues. But the site says anything over $200 is free, not sure what the issue is here.

    • Free shipping worked for me, it’s the last option (selected by default) on the shopping details page when checking out.

OH MY GOD! THERE'S A VOLTRON SET!!!!!!
    https://shop.lego.com/en-AU/Voltron-21311

    Edit: Sorry… post hi-jack

    • This is my next Lego purchase, once i see a good deal of course :)

      • The Lego shop seems to be the cheapest place to get it from what I've seen (excluding BrickLink).
Everywhere else has marked up their prices to about $380.

    • awesome!!! haven't seen Voltron in ages!!!
I want the vehicle Voltron version!

      • +1

Voltron is on Netflix the redux version of Lions.

    • "Voltron’s sword measures 11” (29cm) long."

      Farrk!

    • Bought it through lego store the week before release. Still waiting for it to be delivered. Only lego set I've paid retail for. I think it's going to be worth it!

    • Finished building Voltron a couple nights ago.

      Incredible build.

Now saving for a second set so I can have one permanently on display in lion form next to Voltron.

I still have the AT-OT Walker BNIB

Considering adding this to the collection of Star Wars Boxed Lego - lol

  • +2

    $1100 …is this life size ?

  • I thought of buying one and getting TRS back… but it is way too heavy for that!

    • Good option if you are going cruising. Just stick it under the bed.

  • -2

Thanks OP! Best price so far for 42083. However, it is still expensive….
When will that be dropped to $350? Then let me know.

  • -1

For real ozbargainers, there's a 'Space Wars' "Century Eagle" for set for $80 US
    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Bela-Compatible-With-Legoe-S…

  • Wake me up at $350 for the Chiron
Already have the falcon got it for $1,040 at DJ's. Still sitting in box.

I picked up these sets on discount today: https://imgur.com/a/15ohevA

    • Discount from?

      • The interenet

        • Ebay.com through recent 15% off sale

    • I don't think I could leave that in a box hey. I'd start building and not eat or drink until it's completed

      • +2

        Or could afford too.

  • The Bugatti was this price since last week. Just got it delivered today.

  • +4

    What a piece of junk!

    • +5

Watch it kid. This thing made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs.

  • Hmm, this or the Lepin version from Aliexpress?

    • No, not Lepin version.

I bought LEGO TECHNIC 42055 BUCKET WHEEL EXCAVATOR about 2 years ago. Look like store is Authorised Lego Reseller.

  • I think the lowest price ever for the MF was $1039 during DJ's stocktake sale. I caved and bought one then. But there will most likely be a steeper discount later when they need to clear stock, like they did with the Opera House and Big Ben sets (both for 40% off iirc).
