Is the phone paid off over 12 months, or $799/$949 upfront plus $39/month?

    • +1

Pay upfront on the condition you sign up to the Telstra plan. It's a variation of this past deal

      • $100 more for phone, but $10/5GB less each month…..

    • +1

      upfront

      • Ahh okay, think ill wait for the new iDevice in September'ish

        • Yeah the phone is paid off upfront.
You can break from the 12M contract by paying $294. I think the amount pro-rata-ed down each month.

        • @Bimo: Breaking the contract but staying with telstra will have no ETC

  • How exactly does this work?
I still have 4 months left on my current post paid contract with virgin mobile.
I can't just change to telstra, surely i would have to pay for the remaining 4 months of my vm contract, don't i?

    • +10

what did virgin say when you asked them?

    • It's simply another contract.
      12 months @ $39/month + upfront fee.

Compared to your most likely 24 month contract you are on @ $XX/month.

    • +4

I'm sure Virgin Mobile would let you get out of your contract for free to move to another provider.

    • All contracts have an early termination fee. You would need to ask virgin (or look at your contract) to see how much it is. It will be $x multipled by months remaining of contract.

    • Give them a call. Apparently, all phone have a "credit" which pays off remaining planfees. I had 5 month left on iphone 6s (45 plan + 15 handset/month), I just had to pay my last bill outstanding and any new charges pro-rata, the rest got debitted from the "credit". I did switch to optus though because I just wanted a sim only plan ($30 for 15gb, they have many options for customers switching over)

  • Seems to be a good deal! The Ozbargainer in me tells me to try the below:

Get the $39 plan and the $200 gift card and buy the S9 on sale (cheapest for Au stock was $900), kinda makes the phone $700 than paying $800 here?

JB hifi vouchers dont have expiry date, and it would make sense to treat them as cash for any instore/online purchase later.

    • Where is it for $900?

  • -5

Not a deal! This bundle, S9 cost at $105.58 20gb data per month for 12mths contract. Telstra's own offer is $89 10gb data per month for 24mths contract, Optus is $79 25GB 24mths contract.

    • +7

      I don't see how they're anyway comparable.

      • If you were going to keep the phone and plan for 24 months, then overall this deal is more expensive.

Edit - I see the error in the comparison - my bad!

        • +3

If u keep it for 24 months, then it's equal to $72 pm.

          It's cheaper.

          $799+$39*24=1735
          1735/24=72.30

  • this is 72pm assuming you can continue on 39/pm plan between months 13-24.

    • Confirmed by JB sales rep today that it will continue for months 13 to 24 for 39pm

      • I would probably look for better deal.
        Hoping for s10…

  • if you can get the 200 gift card with this deal then its a WINNER !

    • Nah its either 400 off S9/S9+ or the gift card. Tried to even push the price down as HN have it at 1149 but they said nope

      • JB hifi Fountain gate gave me $1070 for S9, try that if you are in melbourne..

  • Where do you get the 5% gift card from please? Did I miss something?

    Thanks!

    • Work programs if you have it
You can grab it off private sellers on ozbargain (higher rate as well)
Or you can buy e-gift from cashrewards/entertainment book/private sellers for 5%-7%, then pay for jbhifi gift cards in woolies with your egift

I womder if they could offer the a similar deal with the p20 pro. Like 400$ off which they had a few weeks back

  • They had this deal plus a $200 gift card on the $49 plan last month.

    • They had $400 off, plus $200 gift card? Or did they have one option or the other?

      • Doesn't seem plausible, but standing by on this confirmation

      • It was on the old $49/mth($10 off $59/plan), but no get $400 off the s9 or s9+ as well as the $200 giftcard.

  • Nice deal, very tempting.

  • Can I port in from Aldi mobile to get this deal?

    • Why not?

    • Aldi uses Telstra network but you are not on Telstra plan so would say yes.

  • the s9/s9+ had a lot of drop-out issues earlier this year. can someone verify this has been fixed?

  • -1

Just a heads up regarding the port in offer: Telstra resellers (such as Boost) are not eligible, you will have to port out to another provider first.
Went into JB this afternoon to enquire about the $39 port in + $200 gift card offer in the other thread and they confirmed this, and they also said the $39 + gift card deal ends Thursday.

    • That's not true, I've just ported in from aldi.

    • -2

Boost is 100% owned by Telstra. Not a reseller.

      • Where do you get that information?

Only read this today. So i missed out on your hack!

  • Bugger I bought the S9+ on Saturday with the $200 JB hifi gift card deal posted a few days ago. Do you think they will refund me the difference if I go back to the store and ask?

    • +2

I've sent them to email to see if I can get a $200 refund. Fingers crossed I will

      • +2

Did you also sign up to a Telstra plan when you bought your S9+?

        • Yes the $39/20GB plan

  • -2

Is anyone interested in 'splitting' this deal whereby one person is only interested in getting the phone will fork out the $799 for the phone and the other person gets the $39 plan? I'm only interested in the phone, already have a plan with Telstra

    • +3

Why would anyone does, they can do it themselves and get $200……

  • +1

Just got two of the $39 plans. My partner got the S9+. Used my $200 credit (I already have an iPhone X) and purchased $750 discounted Woolworths cards which I then used to purchase the ultimate teens gift cards with.

    • And after procrastinating ….. I missed out on getting those cards on the last catalogue.

  • Can anyone confirm they got a $39/PM plan as well as the $400 off the handset? JB are only giving me one or the other…

    • Yes. Partner got the S9+ for $949, then used my $200 JB gift card and then $750 Ultimate teens cards.

  • where is this deal advertised? my local JB is only offering a 200 gift card to port over to this plan. if there is something official advertised i could show them but the link to the deal just goes to their website?

  • Expired.
Called up to confirming can get the S9+ tomorrow, this $400 off havdset piece expired yesterday.
Looks like I'll take a few $200 gift card instead.

  • I was at jb chermside and noticed the flyer said that it spied on the 23rd of this month. Fortunately the sales guy I spoke to told me he can still do the deal for me.

So my wife signed onto the $39/mthsim only deal and got the $200 giftcard, I then I got the S9+ with the $400 off plus used the $200 giftcard and saved myself $600. Once I lodged TRS for my flight next month the phone would have only cost me $674.10…
