feels nice in the hand, i’ve never even thought curved edge screens as a negative, but then use laptop and keyboards or tablet if i’m stuff for extended periods. Growing up before smart phones probably means i dont see it as my primary piece of tech, more mobile convenience.

Feel and look nicer? More 'premium' aesthetic?
Is there a problem with curved edges?

Yes, if you try to click into the corner especially if you have a case

Only one (maybe two?) real problems, palm rejection and corner sensitivity can be hell.
But also they tend to be more expensive to replace and often weaker at the edges where they 'thin out'.

@MasterScythe @kanu666
Ah I see. Is that Motorola-specific - or typical of all curved screens?Either way, it's enough to deter me from this phone at this price, given all the other issues I've had with my Edge 30.

the issue is: in most cases the element to close the Ad is exactly in the corner and each time I click I miss it and click on the Ad instead :(

@kanu666: tbf I have that issue on a flat screen phone!
I've long suspected that the 'x' close button on the ad doesn't work until you've tapped several times.

in other country its available for $500 for 256 gb.

which country

other

India

well yea it's marked up here ofc

Previous model Motorola Edge 50 Pro is now $599 at HN too.
I feel there will be one more decent price drop on Motorola flagships before the end of the year.
Considering the Edge 50 Pro is 18 months old and the last of the promised three updates will (if it follows the trend of previous series) be buggy and unfixed, I don't know if it that's a good deal at all really.
If they are prompt with their updates, you could potentially only get just over a year's good use before little things start to get annoying or go wrong. Ironically, Motorola can take so long to release updates, you may get an extra year (Edge 40 family is still waiting for Android 15 updates!) before they rush out the final one and ditch support.Battery is only three-quarters the size of the Edge 60 Pro too.

@igerstep, AU-Motorola clearance ~ 50% off RRP & help bring down the prices of older flagship models, eg Samsung & Pixel, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/928591
@sam buster, software support is expensive & doesn't other brand's Android-OS also 'be buggy and unfixed'

@ sam buster, software support is expensive & doesn't other brand's Android-OS also 'be buggy and unfixed'
Maybe, but Motorolas get two or now three updates promised. For me, that was one good update and then one which introduced several bugs that make some everyday features of the phone annoying. I mentioned these in another post, but for example, having to clear the cache everytime I want to connect a new Bluetooth device (or through a new app), and the the phone app minimizing as soon as I dial someone so I have to swipe around to turn on the speaker etc. And I need to focus carefully on the screen. Making and receiving calls in the car is especially unreliable, even quite dangerous due to these two issues.
While others are waiting for me to get my act together, I'm always making the excuse that my phone is a bit rubbish. Why would you want to spend $599 on an 18-month old phone if you know the next update is going to cripple it?Other leading brands (eg Samsun & Google) offer six to seven updates - that's more than double the lifespan of the Motorolas.
PS Thanks for the link to the other deal

Picked up one yesterday and if you put it on 36 months latitude interest free you will get a free $50 Harvey Gift Voucher. I have upgraded from my 3 year old Edge 30 Ultra which has been a damn good phone. Unfortunately the battery is starting to struggle now.

Same here, my 30 Ultra is dying:
Bettery but also haptic vibro motor.
Did you have issues with vibration on your 30 Ultra? And how does this new one feels in comparison? TBH I'd prefer Snapdragon Vs Mediatek
will this new one also begin to die in 3 yrs

All batteries typically do if heavily drained and charged daily.
With 6k mAh, odds are it'll degrade but still be a usable level.

mine started after 2 years actually

It might be interest free for the cost of the phone but do Latitude sting you a fee every month?
Looking quickly on the Latitude website it looks like the credit card fee costs you $10.95 per month which would negate the value of the $50 HN gift card pretty quickly - maybe I've got it wrong?

Battery Li-ion: extend life by observe & manage,
a.Temperature…< 45°C
b.Volts…< 4.3V
Install AccuBattery-APP & see-it for yourself.90W fast charging is killing your battery faster. 6000mAh bigger battery tries to compensate. The industry/Motorola is prioritising convenience over longevity.
Read widely & the above-criteria is being practice by electric-vehicles: can't defy Li-ion chemistry.Fact-checked & proof: my Motorola 5000mAh capacity is 92% after 20 months use…likely that I use my mobile-phone more than you, https://ibb.co/216yCTpQ
Source: https://accubattery.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/210224725-…, https://batteryuniversity.com/article/bu-808-how-to-prolong-…

why would i install accubattery ,😂😂💀💀

My favourite charger since i charge overnight, is this.
https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/smahagel-1-port-usb-charger-whi…
It uses a thermistor for soft power up, has over current and overheat protection.
And cuts off cleanly at 1.2A.

Save battery: consider turn-on Aeroplane-mode during work & sleep: 30+ battery-usage (~ 3%/hr) phone idle & running Android15.
Ambient temp. affects battery-temp.: with heavy use my battery-temp. is up-to 15°C above ambient temp…30°C is low-end here during summer.
0.5A charges my 5000mAh battery ~9%/hr, hence ~70% in 8hr/sleep. 0.5A output by USB 2.0.
@MasterScythe, true…observe the battery-temp. charging @ 1.2A with 30°C room temp. Try USB 2.0 & see the difference.
@sackrace, true…personal preference is wide & vast…some wants charging within 30m.

Thanks for this! I've been looking for a slow charger for exactly the reason you have yours. I'll order a couple because of your recommendation.
I just wondered- if I order the same charger in different countries, will they ship to Australia?

@Sydney2K: Trials & errors-> 'I just wondered- if I order the same charger in different countries, will they ship to Australia?'
Try asking friends who have wall charger for old/obsolete phones-> 'I've experimented with these current on my 5000mAh phone: <0.5A, 0.5A, 1A, 3A (factory supplied wall-charger, 15W only).'
On hot days with room temp. ~30°C & phone charging @ 0.5A, it's common to place my phone on a laptop-fan to keep temp. below 40°C: phone is idling & screen-off.

@Sydney2K: I'm using a similar & copied 7-ports usb-hub with AU-power-adapter $10, https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/167844942614?
usb-port,
a.closest to blue-cable connector cable output ~ 0.5A
b.furthest to blue-cable connector cable output < 0.5AConsider, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/930896

I see the rate of charging mentioned in so many phone reviews like we need every phone to have 100w charging but I can't fathom the use case. If the battery life is sufficient for a day to day and a half, then I can charge overnight, and 5 to 10w charging is going to get the job done easily in that time frame.
Why would I want to blast my battery at 100w unless it's too small to last the day to begin with? In which case why would I want to accelerate it's degredation further?
The once in a blue moon where a heavy day requires a top up is what a battery bank is for.

Some people prefer fast charging: 0.5 to 1 hr…busy life style?
Preference is wide & vast…we are dealing with mindset?

Not to discredit you, but I charge my phone overnight with a 10W charger, have it on a wireless charger all the time in the car that has a fan (ESR cryoboost), and use fast charging at 45W throughout the day when I need a top up. I drain it fully about once a month. But I largely just use it without worrying about the battery or charging habits.

AccuBattery-APP: pls post an image of your charging-profile, ie #s of equivalent full cycle charging, monthly: see 3rd image-> https://ibb.co/216yCTpQ
Need to compare like with like.FYI, what people don't see in my charging-profile is that I apply outlier battery saving practice, eg I turn-on Aeroplane mode when working & sleeping…~16hrs of phone idle with screen-off…common to lose ~30% battery level: what's Android15 & APPs are doing in the background?
I like it that when people shared different experience…likely that my knowledge is limited & happy to broaden my understandings 📖.

@ab c: I dont use Accubattery anymore. Its wildly inaccurate. Accubattery reported my capacity as 88% after a year of use and had stayed at 88% for the past 12 months. I used the built in Samsung log to get my charge count and capacity which I trust over a third party app.
For reference, I had similar charging habits with my iPhone and it showed 91% after 2 years of use. I abused that phone with wireless charging in the car without a fan in 40 degree weather while my car air con wasn't working. All while on max brightness and navigating through maps.
It overheated and gave me a warning, hence moving back to Android.

@User0001: Your iPhone/Samsung likely hindered its measurement.
AccuBattery-APP: I turn-on Allow-background-usage & have positive experience on my Motorola.
You'll be surprise what's the actual wattage/ampere is going to your battery-> 'fast charging at 45W throughout the day'

Do Motorolas come with stock Android or massive bloatware?

just bad camera software really

I don't know if they have fixed it, but from Android 12 to 14 (at least) you need to manually turn off HDR every time you open the app. A well-reported issue than Motorola did nothing about.
Also, this might be phone specific, but my Edge 30 (which had Snapdragon chipset), glitches every second or two if I try to record videos for more than a few minutes (even at 1080p 30fps). Once, the flicker starts you need to restart the phone to temporarily get rid of it.

you can install GCam

That would be great if true - I might be able to use it with my watch too.
Have you done this? It doesn't appear in the Play store, and from what I have read around the Internet, it can be a bit laggy and unreliable?
GCam ports generally suck

Motorola's are very close to stock Android. They have some genuinely useful tweaks too - such as MotoGestures (double chop for torch, twist for camera, flip to silence and so on).
However, my three year old phone stopped has stopped getting updates. The last OS update (to Android 14) is pretty buggy and won't be fixed - it's like Motorola promised two OS updates, rolled them out and said "Promise fulfilled, job done" despite the issues.
These are things like Bluetooth connectivity - I often can't discover or connect to new devices (or even old ones via new apps), battery usage apps, removed features from the camera app, and added a MotoLauncher (I think that's the culprit) app sends you notifications for unwanted "recommended" apps which you can only disable by losing notifications and functions for the Moto apps you have. Also, the newly added Gemini Assistant has a short cut which I somehow frequently activate by accident (often when doing the torch chop).
A change to the phone app interface minimises it as soon as you dial which means I start every conversation with, "Hold on a second, I just need to change a setting.." as I swipe around to bring the app back up just to press the speaker button.Maybe Android 15 fixes those, but at the end of the support life (extended to three OS updates now - still less than half of what Samsung and Google promise) expect the last 'update' to just be rolled out to tick a box and support to abruptly stop.
I was reading reviews on this Edge 60 Pro last night - apparently MotoAI is poor, Gemini is still equippped - so there is some uneccesary duplication.

Chop for the torch is something I genuinely miss now I'm on a pixel. It's honestly fantastic.

Hrmm damn was just looking at this to replace a one month old nothing phone 3a. I don't hate this phone but the width is annoying and the camera is awful (and never loved the idea it's ip65 only)

Are Moto Edge phones worth more than 2x G series?

What a question!?
Edge phones typically surpass the G series in every feature except battery life.
There is no denying that this is a much better phone than the G85, with far more features.
The real question is do you need those extra features and aditional performance? If not, then no, it isn't worth it is it.Having said that, I haven't upvoted this deal as $800 is more than I would like to pay for a phone, particularly a Motorola with only one or two years of updates left, but I'm not sure you will find a highly specced phone with 12 / 512 GB configuration for much cheaper.

Why does Motorola insist on curve edge screens..
