    So instead of 0.5 of a cent per dollar I spend I can get 2.5 cents. Essentially 2.5% off. Stack with cashrewards and penny5 and you get 8.5% off.

    • -6

      Technically, you'd get 8.325% off (X * 0.95 * (0.95 * 0.99) * (0.95 * 0.975))
      Stack with discounted eBay Gift cards to get more off :)
      Hopefully some better eBay sales happen during the same period

        Nope, the discounts are additive, not multiplicative because Flybuys points, cash rewards and PENNY5 are all calculated on the full price, not the discounted price.

        • Happy to be corrected; as that means more discount for everyone :)
          *I had assumed Flybuys points & cash rewards are calculated on the full price PAID to eBay (I.e. the amount of money I send to eBay after the PENNY5 discount is applied); rather than the full listed item price before discount.

          @pronoun: I have requested an independent review of the above. A QuickMaffs expert will comment soon.

        • +8

          I can confirm that the discounts are definitely additive. One of the great features of eBay is cashback/flybuys are calculated on the pre discount price.

          @sky blu: Mathnerd currently in the classroom teaching maths to kids so wait…

          Edit: Damn.. Im sooo late on commenting

    • Or instead of cashrewards, you can sign into velocity estore and double dip on frequent flyer points (triple if you use your frequent flyer credit card).

        That's what I did during the 20 Flybuy points per $ offer recently.

        • Purchased gift cards through a forum member getting 5% off an earning 2 Amex points per $ through him as well
        • Bought through the Qantas mall earning my Qantas points
        • Used the Penny5 coupon for another 5% off
        • And earned Flybuy points which will eventually be transferred to VA when another 20% bonus transfer offer appears.

      If Cost = $100
      * Flybuys = $2.50 back
      * Penny5 = $5 off
      * Cashrewards = $1 back
      * Ebay Gift Cards = 5% of $95 (after Penny5) = $4.75 off

      Total = $86.75

      Save 13.25%

      • You missed the credit card point you earn for buying 5% wish gift card

        • And maybe woolworths rewards for buying the ebay gift card at woolies?

        • +3

          @kcbworth:

          You don't get any points for buying giftcards.

        • @CVonC: Shame :(

        • @CVonC: Few weeks ago you received 2000 flybuys from Coles for buying eBay cards over $50 (one time per user only).

          So sometimes it can all line up.

        • @Elijha:

          Yes those are special promos. Unless it's actually on (and that's occasionally), you won't get points when buying giftcards normally.

      • The Flybuys points is calculated after PENNY5 discount, and exclude postage cost, i.e. $95 * 2.5% = $2.375.

        Hence, save 13.125%

  • Can I just sell a heap of stuff to myself to get the points?

    • Listing fees…

      • Not if when you get a free or low final value fee offer

    Awesome… the link they emailed me fails to activate it, saying:

    Sorry!

    The Promotion is invalid.

    • +2

      There is a banner ad about it on the front page of ebay.com.au and the activate link worked from there.

  • Isnt it 1 point per $ spent? so 5 points per $ with this promo?

    You can collect 1 flybuys point for every $1 you spend on eligible eBay items, up to a maximum of 5,000 points per transaction, when you check out using PayPal or a credit card.

    • +1

      1 point per $2 spent for normal ebay members. ebay Plus members get 1 point per $1 spent.

      I assume this deal gives 5x whatever your entitlement is but couldn't see it explicitly in T&C.

  • is this targeted? when i try to activate this via the eBay offer page it says, "Sorry. The promotion has expired". I haven't received any email about the offer either.

    • never mind—i tried activating again via the eBay/flybuys dashboard, and it works now. must have been a dud link on the T&C page.

  • damn… just spent 100 bucks last night but saw this deal this just now.

  • I didn't realize that the ebay PENNY5 code could only be used once…

    • +2

      pretty sure you can do it 3 times, as per term and conditions

      • Thank you maxchange. I thought I had used it more than once (I am a rather prolific ebay purchaser and lose track) but then started getting the message 'you have already used this coupon'. Thank you so much for clearing that up for me, I appreciate it :-)
