[NSW] Free Unlimited Access to LinkedIn Learning through Local Libraries

1700

I believe this has previously been posted for Queensland and Victoria, but not for NSW. New South Welshmen can now also get free unlimited access to Lynda.com through various NSW local libraries. Participating libraries I've found so far are Blacktown, Georges River, Northern Beaches and Wollongong.

Most libraries allow anyone residing in the state to sign up and you don't need to live in that particular council area.

Direct access links for those who already have library memberships at one of the below councils:
Northern Beaches Library: https://www.lynda.com/portal/sip?org=northernbeaches.nsw.gov…
Wollongong City Library: http://www.lynda.com/portal/sip?org=wollongong.nsw.gov.au
Blacktown City Library: https://www.lynda.com/portal/sip?org=blacktown.nsw.gov.au
Georges River Library: https://www.lynda.com/portal/sip?org=georgesriver.nsw.gov.au

South Australia's libraries offer the same, but with No Need for one link per location (as sugg'd above)

Wait… in one place we passed thru, you had to locate the 1 page on the Council's website… with a link to what they called "Lynda Library" & click that link.

Finding that page seemed a challenge… at least, at the beginning.

In the few weeks we spent there (across 2 trips to the town, to visit rellies & enjoy a break from driving), we couldn't find any way to preserve the link, to preclude the need to find that page.

Maybe that's SA Library's way to "localise" the process…?

Anyway, you could access Lynda.com's courses & short videos in Library & elsewhere on any suitable computer.

I only wish we could find a Complete Course-List, with release- & last-updated-date of each one.

Before JV asks: What about New South Welshwomen?

    • And New South Welsh Children too?

      • they're called Lambs

  • what area is associated with georges river library?

This is also available for all SA library members. http://www.libraries.sa.gov.au/page.aspx?u=1602

Free unlimited access? Sounds like Lynda's a bit of a slag.

Apparently it's a "thing" to sign up online and simply do the verification process at your local NSW library:

    https://www.northernbeaches.nsw.gov.au/library/your-library/…

    • +2

Sweet! Their temporary borrower ID and pin worked too.

      Thanks OP.

      • I used the following link and tried my temporary borrower ID and pink https://www.linkedin.com/learning-login/go/northernbeachesco…
but got hit with this message :(

"Your account is not allowed access based on the access rules set forth for your library. If you have questions, please contact your library administrator."

How "local" does your local NSW library have to be for the Northern Beaches in-library verification? Anywhere at all within NSW, or one of the ones listed on their website at https://www.northernbeaches.nsw.gov.au/library/your-library/…? I'm in Byron Bay and looking for the best way to access this. ✌🏼

      • I chose online as the option when asked to chose the closest library.

      • If you are accessing resources from Sydney libraries, you will generally have to live in the Greater Sydney Metropolitan Region, e.g. anywhere as far as Blue Mountains, Wollongong, Central Coast areas. Most libraries are free to join and you can register for membership online [e.g. https://georgesriver.spydus.com/cgi-bin/spydus.exe/MSGTRN/OPAC/JOIN], but you'll have to visit the library in person to receive your library card.

  • I have this thru the Casey/Cardinia library service in Melbourne, it's a great resource!

  • My work provides this for free, great resource to boost up a linkedin profile as the certificates are credited and can be shown on profile

I'm sick of my LinkedIn feed being littered with "Johnny completed a 25 minute course on the basics of mouth breathing" alongside someone who is adding in the completion of their Masters Degree.

Sometimes quality is better than quantity.

  • Brilliant learning resource. Hadn't thought to mention it on ozB.

  • Looks like South Perth library offers it too.

    http://library.southperth.wa.gov.au/eResources/eLearning/

    Thanks OP

    • Thanks! That's a really good deal

  • Also the library offers free book rental for a month. Take the physical copy of a book home with you. Should that be a separate deal?

    • Generally most people are aware of how a library works with relation to book borrowing. What a lot of people are not aware of are other services such as this one (I wasn't aware). Some other people may also not be aware of the ability to borrow digital ebooks and digital versions of magazines.

  • This is truly gold, thanks

  • I have free access as well and I find it comparatively hard to navigate or find content compared to CBT Nuggets. Content is not listed in order. It could be just me as well but definitely a good deal posted by OP

  • It's only a 1 month trial. Have I read it incorrectly?

    • Where are you seeing that? I don't see anywhere where it says it's just a one-month trial. Are you going through one of the four library links I provided?

  • The access is also available in South Australia via SA library. Link below:

    http://www.libraries.sa.gov.au/page.aspx?u=2

I have using it since few months now.

    • i'm getting Object not found! Here is previous step link

  • Actual legendary shit right here

  • This is so good. Thanks OP!

  • do you need to go to the actual library to sign up for the card and pin? i signed up online and was only given a a temporary card number.

  • I lived tooooo far from Libs..:-(

    • You might be able to sign up remotely, try calling your closest participatig library.

  • Looks like not all NSW libraries(like Chatswood, Hornsby or Hills) have Lynda access.

To which library can I subscribe without visiting the library, even though I don't live there to secure access to Lynda?
    https://www.northernbeaches.nsw.gov.au/library/your-library/… states the below

You can join the library online. Once you have entered your details, you will be given a temporary membership number. Bring this number into your nearest library with proof of your name and current NSW address. A staff member will complete your membership and give you a library card. There is no minimum age for joining, but those under the age of 16 years require consent from their parent or guardian.

    Thank you

  • Can anyone login to Lynda? I tried several times today and got the following error:
You are trying to log in from an IP address that is not associated with an active lynda.com account.
I have been accessing through Blacktown library account.

    • +1

I contacted blacktown library. Since the change to linkedin learning came out, they decided to cancel the service due to privacy concerns. :(

      • +1

You can sign up with the northern beaches library and continue using Lynda.
You can also transfer your profile/progress to the new account.

        • Thanks for the tip. I signed up online and got access. Cheers

        • Just signed up with northern beaches, shame blacktown let it go

          • @ivanflo: I misplaced an email that had instructions on how to login via LinkedIn instead of Lynda. do you have the login link handy?

  • Is there an easy way to see what Libraries are participating across Australia?

    • No, they all just do their own thing.

  • I just wanted to add that Liverpool City Council libraries also allow access to Lynda.com.

Your library doesn’t have access.. Damn, I am cursed 🤬

    • Thank you

  • Does ACT a part of NSW?

    • different state/territory

  • I remember learning macromedia flash back in the day with Lynda - it was awesome

All I could think of when I saw this post:

    https://youtube.com/shorts/IteNE6He4QQ?si=c4Wnm1BAfKrgPHTL

  • Most libraries now issue e-card, just need to find a dummy address for that area.

The whole LinkedIn learning are included in Teams now, Viva learning or something. So if you have office 365, you can access their whole library.

Why is this on the first page though?

    • 365 basic or education?

  • My Blacktown ID does not work online and i cannot see a link in the Blacktown Library webpage.

Is there a direct link to the Lindedin learning page ?

  • I've found that logging in to NewsBank through my library is very useful for accessing SMH articles that are behind a paywall. That and my local paper Illawarra Mercury.

    1. Saw this deal on front page.
    2. Spent time preparing arguments against some idiots in comments.
    3. Realised this post is 6 years old.
  • what about access to nearmap?

  • Looks like access to linkedin learning is ending for the northernbeaches : https://www.northernbeaches.nsw.gov.au/library/your-library/…

Free through Chartered Accountants - can this be considered a deal?

  • wow this is is really good for people looking to upskill and retrain from a long leave break. thanks for sharing op!

Looking for options after Northern Beaches dropping the program.
If you're trying to register remotely:
    * Wollongong - onlyl for residents
    * Sydney City - for general Sydney residents but can't register remotely, also requires regular renewal of the account
    * Georges River - for NSW residents, able to register remotely. Able to use the temporary login for LinkedIn Learning
