Where Can I Buy a Mens Gold Chain (Necklace) from ?

I am really weary of going into a Shopping Center jewellery store to buy my husband a gold chain (for a milestone birthday). I know it would be incredibly marked up. Should I go down the second hand avenue say from like a pawnbroker or even gumtree ?
Are their any online stores that would be better ?

Tell the jewellery store to drop the price - They will usually drop it 30% straight up………..only 970% to go to get down to cost price…..

    • If they drop it past 100%, won't they have to pay you?

  • Try Cash Converters - check their online listing of inventory at different stores. Find what appeals (if anything) then ring and haggle with them.

  • I actually found my inner ozbargainer ….. after having a look on ebay and cash converters, I think I am going to go down the route of Titanium….very durable, long lasting, doesnt wear or scratch. He already has a tungsten wedding band, so might actually make sense to go down this route instead - and a hell of a lot cheaper than gold !!

    • Aliexpress. I bought decoy "white gold" wedding bands for when travelling to dodgy countries. If it went for the stamp on The inside of the real white gold ring then I wouldn't be able to tell them apart. $1.50 Vs $275

    • Searches should all begin on eBay :)

  • When I was shopping around for one, Cash Converters was the cheapest most of the time. Check out their web shop. You'll also find that certain branches are cheaper than others. Frankston branch were selling very close to scrap value price, not sure if thats still the case.

Use someone like M.A.K precious metals to keep on eye on prices and use that as a guide to how well priced the items are that you are interested in.

  • You could buy for close to scrap price, from people who scavenge round with metal detectors.
When I was looking to sell a couple of gold rings, I ended up coming accross a site full of people that scavenge for gold. I cannot remember the name of the site, it was in Australia though. They put me onto a place which actually pays value of gold plus 5% , if I mentioned that I was refered by that particular group/forum . Apparently 10% GST is paid back, when gold peices are scrapped.
I think they trade on the site also.
Also, maybe cash convertors or pawn shops may sell cheap, because they all lie about "pay best price for gold guaranteed" . Not sure how they get around it, regarding fair trading and false advertising. I even had quite from sydney cash4gold business, then asked exactly same company to price match in wollongong and they refused… despite lying and stating "best gold price paid guaranteed"
