Hi, so this is just a re-pricing of this previous deal

Price has dropped another $300, couldn’t find an ebay listing for that price yet. The laptop is obviously getting a bit outdated but it’s still a good laptop for those who are happy with a 14 inch screen and don’t want to pay $4k on the latest Razer laptop.

    Big difference between the two.

    • +2

Oh, I see. To be honest I just copy pasted the old title. Looks like the old post was also HQ

    • How's the difference in user experience though?

      • Lower FPS in games due to the lower single core performance and slower multi core performance in applications that would fully take advantage of the CPU.

        • Don't know why the hell you're being neg'd for pointing this out.
I was going to buy this as I thought 'HQ' meant "Higher Quality'.

        • +2

@idonotknowwhy: My initial comment was literally correcting the title and it was neged, it makes absolutely zero sense.

        • @Axelstrife: Yep, and then you (correctly) answered the question about the difference in user experience.
Have you got down-vote stalkers or something?

Compare apple to orange. The i7-7700 is a desktop CPU. I doubt that you will find it on a small 14" laptop.

      • +1

        Im not comparing anything.
FFS i was correcting the title which stated the laptop has a I7 7700 not the I7 7700HQ.

  • Can you get the education discount on this guys?

    • That was how I found this new price. I linked a friend to the previous one and he saw it was on sale again. He works post grad at a university and was talking about an education discount. Not sure how it works

      • Well, if you have an EDU address you can apply for a 10% discount. I don't know if they stack with this deal, as it would be a steal a $1800!

        • Ok. He said it worked for the previous $2,300 deal so I don’t know why it wouldn’t for this one

        • @cruizerdog: Ok, had a look on the page. You can't use the EDU discount on it unfortunately. Still a good deal, but with the extra $200 off, I would have been totally down to get it.

  • Does anyone know how long it takes new models to come to australia? The 4k razer blade 15 is out in USA and UK now, but not even appearing as out of stock on the australian razer website.

    • They have had stock multiple times. Just have to check daily, seems that they are either selling out fast or only importing small amounts.

      • I refresh all day every day - nothing for the last 2 weeks. And no 4k version on the dropdown menu at all.

  • Havent seen any good lenovo deals recently

I looked at this as I'm after a laptop around the 2k mark.

Great specs but if you search there are bad reviews on battery packs expanding. See here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/razer-blade-pro-2017…

Pretty common issue for this brand. After service is also poor.

    One to avoid sadly.

    • +2

Its the service/warranty that kills this. Unless you work near the sydney CBD MS store and buy direct from there there is no such thing as service LOL. For expensive laptops its worth paying for an established brand and their service e.g. Dell is normally very good, esp Pro tier - next business day means next business day.

      • Having dealt with (and still dealing with) Dell for the last 6 years - they are not what they used to be. Pro/Premium support is abysmal. And so is their current XPS build quality.

        • Anecdotal, but I had an issue with my Pro covered laptop. After the usual phone diagnosis they sent a tech out NBD who turned up, replaced the part and left. No issue at all from my one-off experience.

What I do know is that with Razer, send it off and pray is the only solution, unless you physically buy it from the flagship MS store and can physically take it back in. A colleague of mine actually did that for a Stealth which developed screen issues only weeks into purchase (he swapped it for a non-razer).

      • I live in Victoria and had no problems replacing my Surface Book twice and Microsoft's service was good on both occasions.

        • can confirm sydney MS store support is amazing. They don't even ask for a receipt, just walk in and walk out with a new one.

    • Thanks for sharing your research. Holy smokes (pun intended!) that looks dangerous as hell.

    • Have a blade suffering from this very issue. Razer support have disclaimed all responsibility.

I’m in the market for a new laptop and am tempted to pick up the new 15” blade but am hesitant given razer’s approach to warranty. I’m not impressed by the build quality of the aero or the gs65.

Feel that I may need to revert to a MacBook Pro and forgo my gaming aspirations.

But Turing RTX card is announcing on Monday. Doesn't it make more sense to wait for a refresh with 9th gen Intel CPU and RTX 2060 Max-Q (or Max-D or Max-Peen or whatever)?

    • 9th gen Intel and RTX 20xx series nVidia literally around the corner. Nobody should be buying a PC now unless they really have to or the price is unbelievable…

    • Yes. That’s an obvious choice. But some people just don’t want to put the money into something like that.

For instance. The only reason why I even saw the sale was because been looking for a friend for months years to build a new computer but he needs wants a laptop and is broke ever since his wedding.

His basic requirements have just been something under $2000 that can be used for work and to run the next two+ expansions of World of Warcraft

      • +2

He plays WoW AND got married!

        • +1

My friend played wow. That was until he got married. She gave him an ultimatum.

        • i actually have two married friends who play WoW. One of them got their wife to join the guild and the other one is unreliable with raid times / plans

        • @xoom:

My girlfriend once told me "it's me or the games" and gee I sure do miss her… Lol.

        • marry warcraft.

        • @ozbjunkie: what can i say? Priorities.

      • If I'm broke I would just buy an Acer Helios 300. Thicker and bigger but same specs for $500 less.

Marriage = baby in most cases.
Marriage + baby = No more gaming :(

Im married with a baby and im afk 95% of the time :(

    • Hurray for the smart phone!

      • I'm using steamplink app to play PC games on my phone.

can play games as the kid gets older :D

I play with my OzB'd console with my son haha.

    • +1

Got a 2 year old and a 4 year old. I've finally been able to start playing games again. It feels good. I'm now just waiting for a few years to be able to play counter strike with the oldest!

      • +1

        I was like you.

Now I'm 45 - he's nearly 12 and spanking me in games like I'm the newborn.

        Screw you fading twitch reflex.

    • I too was this, now the highly misrepresented 1-4am is the best time for boozing and gaming!…. little onexaslepp & mrs finally asleep. If smart I join em from 8-11/12 pm/am then get up and go at it!

      • For a sec there I thought you named your child onexaslepp

        • Or that there was a drug called exaslepp and he was drugging his family at night…

        • @ozbjunkie: I too thought he was referring to a cool new sleeping drug.

    • can confirm, my 1060 idles 99% of the time.
I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of games I've played in the 18+ months I've owned it.

    • Don't have kids guys. Trust me.

Notes on this unit from someone who has one (me!)

    No battery issues at all.
Fans are fine normal work but SCREAMING LOUD when engaging the power of the 1060. Worst I've heard in a notebook.
Used to Blue Screen A LOT (once every couple of days at least when I got it) BUT update after update it got better and better until I now haven't had one since the 20th July and mine is on almost 24/7.
Takes 10-15 seconds to wake from sleep for some weird reason.

Other than that by far best notebook I've had. Solid construction yet thin. SUPER FAST SSD getting close to 2000Mbps on some of the tests I was doing when I first got it (at least 1800 most times). Super fast graphics card. Surprised me because I thought it might throttle but absolutely spanks everything I throw at it at 1920x1080 (I don't have 4K). The Adam and Kite demos look awesome and have no stutter.

Service is crap. Utter crap. I was basically forced into this model. I bought the Razer Blade Stealth initially. Had to send back 2 units because of complete lock ups multiple times a week then they repaired (sent to Sydney) the third saying it was fixed and it kept locking up. I requested full refund to cut my losses but could only get store credit and I was NOT going to go for another one. Went for the Blade costing me total of close to $3300 at the time (about $1000 more than I was initially willing to spend). Had issues with that also (not as bad and thankfully gotten progressively better).

According to support it's always "software" I've put on (I had an ASUS UX31A for 5 years before that NEVER an issue with the same software). Always factory reset (super inconvenient as this is my work computer). It's all by e-mail and due to time differences up to 24 hours response time.

So, although I REALLY LIKE the unit, I don't LOVE it (I just realised I was more in love with the trusty ASUS that STILL WORKS!!!).

I would NOT buy Razer again UNLESS they have real proven track record, local support and bugger it local service centres like ASUS does. They have no idea at the moment how to look after customers in Australia.

Hope this helps someone. The price IS GOOD. You will LIKE the unit but I don't think you'll LOVE it.

  • Been checking this everyday but it's still indicating that it's out of stock. Called the Sydney shop which has over 10 on stock but they can't ship.
