PHUKET for 4 Nights and 5 Days - First Time 2018 October

Hi guys,
My partner and I ( first time travellers) are travelling SYD to Phuket in October 2018 for 4 Nights and 5 days for our honeymoon. I have read trip advisor forums and watched youtube Videos. Our destination will be Phi Phi Island areas, Big Buddha, Patong Night life, Karon and Kata beach (please suggest if I can do more with my stay?) My question is should we stay in 1 hotel or do hotel hoping as I am not sure which and where to book so that we can make it to all the places? Should we get Flight and Hotel Deals from Travel Agent or should we just do it ourself? please be nice and honest advise would be appreciated :)

Update: After all your suggestions we decided to fly on 10th Oct and return on 17 October :)..
U guys are awesome

Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort & Spa is the go-to place. Book there and enjoy everything the island has to offer.

So u reckon we should just stick to this place rather than hotel hoping? Can I do all my activities as mentioned above just staying here? sorry to ask too many questions. We are travelling first time and kind of nervous :)….

      • you don't want to be hoping around on a honeymoon, you'll want to relax. It gets tiresome checking in, taxi to the next place, taking all your luggage etc and since you're not going for very long why would you need to even hop around

    Aonang is nice.

Railay beach for honeymooners. Access by longtail boat.

    • Do u reckon i can fit that in 4 days..

I would spend at least 1 night on phi phi, and book the last 2 nights in phuket so you dont miss your flight out with the remaining night either on phi phi or patong if you are keen on the night life there.

    • That sounds good… thanks

      • Factor in time to get to Phi phi from Phuket, its from memory 2hr drive to port and then 3-4hr ride on ferry one way. Would need more time then 5 days as you fly into Phuket airport. Also, hotels are more expensive in Phi Phi but it is a beautiful place.
If you are not into night life I would avoid Patong beach.

    • Isn't phi phi closed for an extended period? Maya Bay from The Beach, at least.

5 nights is not a lot of time with that itinerary so best you stay in the one hotel or you will spend most of your time packing , checking out checking in and in Taxis.
Flight packages are worth a look as they will usually arrange transfers etc etc,But cant hurt to do your sums, Jetstar fly direct from Sydney to Phuket which is handy (not all flights so check which flight you like)

All the hotels will offer tour packages for the destinations you have mentioned anyway aswell as some are easily driven to by Tuk Tuk, just ask the hotel to arrange it and don't deal with a tout on the street if you can avoid, you usually can arrange prior with the Hotel you book with and a LOT of the hotels will offer transfers from and to the airport, if you stay a week. There are plenty of Kiosks on the street offering tours if you are game.

I stayed in Patong itself as I wanted to be able to spend time in the centre of the nightlife but theres lots of nice places in Phuket to stay, it all depends on accessibility to those tours you have in mind.

I stayed here and liked it, but like you mentioned check out Tripadvisor ETC

    Good luck and Congrats

We did white water rafting over there as a tour it was awesome, booked privately not through the hotel as it costed around triple the price. definitely do it again if I went back over. Taxis are very cheap to go anywhere. Lots of souvenirs to buy but don't buy off the first place you see as others in the back are cheaper sometimes. Good shopping at the Otop and Bangla road

  • should we stay in 1 hotel or do hotel hoping

Its only 4 nights. Just stay in one place and travel to the others. Taxis are cheap.

Otherwise its packing up and unpacking every day. Checkout is normally by 10-11 and checkin won't be till after 2pm. So you'll have to lug bags around etc or leave them at reception.

you basically lose the last day of your travel because you need to pack and get to the airport so you have maybe 4 days of leisure which isn't much. Can you extend the trip a little? I did that on my last holiday from 13 days to 17

Just a suggestion, google Koh Jum. It's a small island very laid back and it has monkeys.

You have 4 nights - just stay in the one place or your honeymoon will be over before you know it.

lol hotel hoping. Your staying 4 nights and overthinking things for a tiny holiday.

Pick a nice hotel and stay put. All of the major attractions are easily accessable so it is absolutely counterproductive time wise to move hotels.
Tips - Phi Phi is a waste of time on a "normal" speedboat trip. Unless you like to rush, stand shoulder to shoulder with a million others, and think it's funny to watch monkeys drink beer give that a miss. Spend a little extra and take a small boat trip which will take you to other beaches on the island worth visiting.
Visit Patong, but don't stay there, noise and sleaze being the biggest drawcards, and therefore the biggest downsides.
Kata is a great destination - much quieter than Karon or Patong, but still easy to access everywhere. The beach is less crowded, and tucked into a headland so a bit protected. Plenty of well priced bars and restaurants, (The Outdoor, The Red Chair, Kata Turk to name some of my favourites), and some awesome single story pool access villas, Kata Lucky and The Palmery are two of my favourites.
The night market in Phuket city is worth a visit (weekends only).
Hire a driver for one of the days to take you to all the usual destinations, such as Big Buddha, Wat Chalon, Old Phuket town, and night market to name a few. You will spend the day in an airconditioned mini van and save heaps. A typical rate is about 1200-1500 Baht for the day. Compare that to taxi/tuk tuk rates - 400 Baht each way from Kata to Patong, 700 baht from Kata to Big Buddha, up to 1000 Baht to the market return, and you can see the benefit.
If you want a really special treat, do a James Gray kayak tour.
