Any experience/advice about one-off carpooling schemes?

Hi, will probably drive from Canberra to Sydney and back. Seems like a decent idea to find people to share the petrol cost with. What do people think about those websites/apps that help you find people to share with? Safety is probably my biggest concern.

  • I used to do it all the time in reverse going to the ski fields. It was easier with friends from work who were members of a lodge that we stayed at.

Check familiar meeting places for you first such as at work.

  • Sort out some costs with passengers first b4 leaving. Maybe get some money uo front. Keep a record of petrol receipts. Personally I wouldnt do it with strangers if safety is a concern.

  • Really? You think saving around $10 each way is a good idea and in addition you have
    safety concerns.

  • I wouldn't carpool with people I didn't know for the cost of petrol to Canberra and back. To me, that trade off just isn't worth it for the risk, possible headaches, annoyance, etc. Find someone you know, or even a friend of a friend (maybe through Facebook?).

  • @JKaitoKid1412 Just grab a friend as ask if they want to go on a road trip with you. They will have to pay their costs. Maybe you pay petrol and they just have to pay their half of room and their own bills. At least you will have company on trip, someone to share the driving, and be safe.

I went on a 36hrround trip with a mate as I didn't have anything to do. It was for his work, and I just helped to drive. Great memories as it was spare of the moment. So just ask a few of your mates.

  • Ye fe, alright thanks for the ideas, I think I'll just go it alone haha
