  • So close to replacing my 1 yr old lackluster miracoil for this… too many good reviews!

  • +4

Highly recommended mattress seller. At this price the quality is worth it.

    • +2

Yeah I am sitting on one while posting this lol

      • I've got it all pump up just waiting to put it on the bed :)

      • Does it come delivered packaged in a box style like Koala mattress? Considering to get one but my apartment elevator is kinda small.

        • Yes comes in a box. Measurements have been posted by Joe888

          Size & Weight
          183cm x 203cm 52.0kg (King)
          153cm x 203cm 42.0kg (Queen)
          138cm x 188cm 39.0kg (Double)

@Yola: thank you I couldn't see Joe's comment at all lol

        • @Yola: Would you know what is the boxed dimension as well?

From my previous conversation with the seller, they say "The dimension for the box for queen size mattress is 32cm x 32cm x 158cm.".

I purchased a king in March and the length would have been, based on the above 188 cm but I think it was wider but no more than 60cm x 60cm.
If you need to be sure I would message the OP or eBay seller.
Come back with the reply for future queries.

  • i'd buy if they also the base without the bedhead was in stock

  • +2

Was tempted to buy on the last deal but just noticed a few comments about quality in the previous thread: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/395563?page=2#comment

Can anyone who owns one of these comment on how they compare to mattresses costing 1k+? Also do they have any chemical smell to them (not good for skin or health)?

    • +1

Damn there's a lot of weird stuff in that thread… I'm looking at buying a new mattress ATM so i'll monitor this and see how things go.

    • +3

Have had a single mattress for a couple of months now as my main mattress.
Chemical smell lasts a day after you take it out of the bag. I have eczema and have noted no significant change in my skin (probably improved).

With regards to comfort, it feels different to my previous spring mattress. It is not as firm as my old one but because it is foam, it sort of takes your shape and then holds it. I have found it very comfortable.

    • +3

I got a queen black label in the last deal, had no smell at all, and has been great so far. Takes a few days to fully uncompress anyway so let it air at the same time. Replaced a King Koil extra firm, and much prefer this one.

    • +5

My understanding is that the chemical smell is something to do with the mattress-in-a-box approach to storage at the factory and ease of delivery. They are intended to be well aired for a couple of days prior to use. The chemical smell will fully dissipate.

Reading through the linked thread (didn't realize the discussion on that one had continued on to such interesting levels) - I think the one throwing out accusations with little substance, Gallifr3y, has a lot more to answer for than Zzz Atelier or the reseller at this point.

    • +3

Purchased mattress in March. Smell was gone after a few days. The mattress is great. Many many great reviews here, product review, eBay and whirlpool. Never seen such a great consensus on a product from thousands of people. Many buy several more after the first one. Love the mattress and unbelievable price.

    • Interesting more recent comments on that thread from hetzjagd and NeBlackCat which I agree with.

    • +1

Also do they have any chemical smell to them (not good for skin or health)

I have heard about this, but didn't notice anything when mine arrived. I have pretty bad allergies all year round coupled with asthma, and haven't noticed any negative change. No idea how the product will hold up long term, but it's been great for the three months I have had it for.

there's definitely a lot of fear mongering from established mattress businesses, and there's also fear mongering between mattress in a box companies over trying to scare people away from their competition, so take all the negative reviews with a grain of salt.

  • We got our single last week from the last sale. really good for the price. Great for kids beds. We replaced our king with a premium pocket spring mattress for $2200 about six months ago - I would have just got one of these if I had known about them. There would be only a very small difference in comfort.

  • how does one purchase the base?

    • check your local buy sell groups or ebay

      • I meant the base they have in the picture, with the wheels on it. I'd rather get something at the same time that I know suits their mattress

        • +1

thats just for show. you need to source your own base, and they are not cheap.

        • Like you skizthtklz I wanted to be sure that the mattress and bed base would suit so I purchased their base with this mattress during previous offer in March. Totally recommend the mattress but with their base it ended up too high. Had to dismantle the legs and only use half of them.

        • I can probably help you out with this. You can purchase ANY base you like for a particular mattress. As long as they are made to Australian sizing/standards then it doesn't matter what base you get.

xEnt - the price of a base is actually relatively cheap compared to the cost of the mattress. But I guess you are comparing the price of these mattresses as appose to regular stores. A standard Queen base would cost you anywhere from $150 - $400 dependent on the quality of ticking used and if there are any other materials in the base that are not standard i.e. your superior quality ensembles (mattress and base) sometimes have latex or foam in the base to allow a bit of give. This only means your mattress may feel a little softer when sleeping on it. Otherwise most standard bases are a platform base (solid with no give).

If you want brand new - just go to any local store and see what price they charge for a base and go from there. Otherwise there are often ensembles going cheap 2nd hand on gumtree/local buy sell and swap groups where you get rid of the mattress and keep the base only.

As a side note - you can buy ensemble base covers in different colours if you want to add a modern look to it. They are relatively cheap to buy.

          I hope that helps

          @CrocDundee:

The warranty on this mattress has some clauses regarding slat sizes and spacing. Even if you don't think you will use the warranty there is probably a good reason why it is stipulated, so take care if getting a slatted base.

Also, the mattress is quite tall and this should be taken into account.

        • @bargainpersona:

Yeah slat beds would be something completely different. I am only referring to Ensemble bases. If they are Australian standard it will be fine no matter what ensemble base you get.

        • @bargainpersona:
thanks for the heads up, just realised these beds won't fit on my kids bunk beds due to the thickness of them

        • @CrocDundee: the slat spacing on my 10+yr old ensemble is no good for this mattress, so I need a new base now.

        • @Lukian: I was just going to place some plywood on top of the slats of my bed. Apparently it has the added advantage of making the mattress firmer as it gives the springs more support.

        • @Lukian:

What type of ensemble is it? Standard ensemble bases don't normally have slats (slat spacing) in them? They are a platform (solid wood) base… I would be interested to know where you bought it from and how old 10yrs+ is? 10yrs, 15yrs, 30yrs?

        • @CrocDundee: I think it is super amart. It was purchased as a set with a Sealy posturpedic queen for about $699 total. The purchase year was 2004 iirc. The mattress is still surviving okay, but I'd estimate another few years life at most, the springs are very creaky at the edges. I have minor back pain but that could be caused by other sources. I'll see how the zzzAtelier goes in a few months.

        • @Cheap Skate: I'm not sure that passes the air flow requirements of a mattress, but thanks for that idea, it's a good short term solution.

        • @Lukian:

Ahh - yes Sealy had/has the spring base ensembles. They are the only brand that I can remember having those types of bases. I don't recall them having slats that are far apart though in the base. You've done well to get 14yrs out of the mattress though.

        • @CrocDundee: The slat size is 7.5cm and the gap is about 12-15cm (don't want to move my mattress right now to double check).

        • Came across a bedbase here. Looks a good height for this mattress. There others also on this sale. Would check out spacing of the slats.

Also really enjoy these mattresses, upgraded to a larger bed and got the same variant from ZZZ… cant wait to get it unpacked and sleep on it!!

  • Any bargains on good quality bases that would go well with this mattress? Tempted to upgrade from my 10 y.o. King Single.

  • Very interested in one of these- how firm is medium-firm? If it was rated medium is happily buy, but the attachment of form makes me worried it's quite firm.
I prefer a soft bed, but knowing that's its not best for you, accept a happy medium

    • +1

I wouldn't call it firm. I would consider it to be more a medium.

    • +1

Yes this was the hardest issue for me. I would agree it is more like medium. They do also sell a firm.

  • Perfect mattress for guest bedroom.

  • Damn.
I need a very firm mattress

    • +1

They have firm models too… and they're CHEAPER! Here's the 'Super Firm' in King for $239.20 and Queen for $215.20

    • They have one called assured firm

    • i bought the very firm which had a rating of 9/10, really happy with it.

  • damn it, i want firm. How soft is the medium firm? anyone went from a firm to this? I'm currently on a AH Beard firm.
Reading that other thread is a bit concerning, but then again what do you expect from a $200 bed.

  • +1

I have one of these in a double size. Called them and they agreed to ship to Tasmania for an extra $40. SO worth it! The most comfy thing I've slept on, ever.

  • +1

Bought one 5 months ago, love it.

    • me too

  • +1

I got this a few months ago. it's medium-firm. Has a new-ish smell for the first week or so. Comfortable, the edges and bottom of the bed don't have that much support, when you sit on the bottom end of the bed for example it pushes in a lot more than you would expect. but it's not really an issue since thats not what its for.

Unfortunately in the last month, 1/3 of my sleeps have woken up with a really sore back, I can't chalk this down to the mattress since the first month of sleeping on it i didn't have these issues. Could be something to do with my pillow. or angle i am sleeping at.

    • the edges are made like that because they have to fit in a box. I purchased a king which minimises this issue as do not have to sleep near the edge.

    • I also had back pain issues, not caused by the mattress per se, but they started when the mattress stayed getting noticeable body grooves in it at about 6 months, and didn't go away until I got a firmer mattress.

These guys also do a super firm (which I assume is still a pocket spring), I went with a sleepy's which is not pocket spring.

The ZZZ firm should really be described as medium-firm.

How does this rate with IKEA mattresses? Looking to replace my IKEA ones lol

  • Is there anywhere we can test these mattresses in Sydney?

        Hellooo…. is anyone out there???

  • +1

Grabbed one a few months ago and am very happy with it.

    • me too.

  • Want to buy but says doesn’t deliver to my location. Regional S.A..

    • Ring them up, many comments about reasonable extra fees to other locations eg. $40 to Tasmania.

      • Tried messaging via eBay but no reply, would you happen to have a number please ?

        • Sorry should not have said ring - showing my age. It was actually message and people mentioned that they do reply. Make sure you still get the deal some have said they did and others not. You have 9 days to sort it out.

        • +1

@Yola: thankss, sent a message will wait for reply

  • Bought a King, thanks OP!

  • Queen is out of stock, looks like the rest are there.

I was just about to buy a queen, bummer haha

    • keep an eye out she'll be back

    • +1

Definitely keep checking, they apparently restock.

  • The firm does not have an extra layer of padding, so comes with a lower price.

    • Do you have the "super firm" if so how have you found it?

  • FYI - $22 Extra delivery charge for Vasity Lakes Gold Coast. Charged as a PayPal invoice about a day after buying.

Also their "sign on delivery" isn't very strict.

  • Does anyone know the boxed dimensions of each size?

    • The width of the king box was the width of the king bed itself at 183cm. Not sure the L or H dimensions.

    • Size & Weight
      183cm x 203cm 52.0kg (King)
      153cm x 203cm 42.0kg (Queen)
      138cm x 188cm 39.0kg (Double)
      107cm x 203cm 32.0kg (King Single)
      92cm x 188cm 28.0kg (Single)

      • Thanks but they're all unboxed dimensions. I need to know how big they are while still shrunk in their original shipping boxes.

        • You are right I messed up. I thought it was the boxed dimension until now. Let me ask the one above that gave me the dimension.

        • +1

Rough guess from (possibly corrupted) memory, the queen was a 153cm long cylinder, ~60cm in diameter…unless it was folded in half making it half as long. Not boxed, just vacuum packed in plastic.

        • @Letrico: All good. Thanks anyway.

        • +1

@bargainpersona: Perfect, thanks! Will just fit in a Corolla sized Hatchback then… with the front seat down.

          @SteveAndBelle:

The queen size mattress in the box fit my sedan Elantra with front seat down, and there is more space for it. just remember to find something to tie the box down cause it might sway when you make a left or right turn. be careful on the road. :D

Dimension for queen size box is as mention by yola by quoting my comment from last deal, 32cm X 32cm X 158cm, and it's heavy, so get someone to help you load into your car. The delivery person helped me.

  • Is postage to eastern states pretty snappy on these? Just wondering if it will come before I go away next week. Postage on the eBay listing says it should come by Monday, but the reliability of these time frames vary from seller to seller.

    • +1

My work mates ordered last time, one got his the next day (Central Coast NSW) and the other from Sydney got his in a couple of days.

  • +1

Two guys at work bought these mattresses last time. Both of them gave me very positive reviews, one uses it as a guest bed and the other as his main bed.

I was going to purchase today at full price as I really need a new mattress asap, and couldn't believe the sale popped up before I had a chance to buy it.

I am really looking forward to giving it a go, especially at the price. My last mattress I spent thousands on and after only a year or two it became saggy in many places and eventually we could no longer sleep on it (AH Beard medium firmness pillowtop). That experience has made me extremely scared of spending such an amount again so hopefully this works out.

  • Are they sold out? Link wont go through.

    • Having the same problem here

    • Back in stock

  • I have one and its quite frankly overrated. Mine had a very visible sag within 6 months. We have now moved it to guest room and there is a new Koala in the bedroom.

    • Can I ask about the bed it was on? There are a few people saying this and it would be good to know if the bed's slats werent too far apart as per the warranty requirememts

  • How is it vs Koala?

  • They’re all out of stock now

  • +1

In case they get some new stock and people are checking this deal again, I bought it during the last deal and have now slept 3 nights on it and it's highly recommended. I'm not a mattress aficionado, but it's big, thick and comfortable whilst still being reasonably firm. I'm 120kgs so i'd know if it wasn't up to task. Fantastic deal.

    • +1

Report back in 6 months on one of the next deals and let us know how it's faring :)

      • I can report back after buying in Jan, mattress still comfortable, nothing noticeable has changed about it. Also been sleeping very well on it

        • User weight(s)?

  • limited King and Queen back in stock
