PS4 Pro Bargain?

Just bought a new 4k tv and looking to get a ps4 pro to make use of 4k.
Just sold my 1st gen ps4 for $300.

Is there any current specials. What rough price am I looking at during specials?

Historical low is $379 at Amazon. If you can get low 400s you'll probably be getting as good as you can

  • Looking for exactly the same. Really regretting not buying it on the Amazon deal

Be aware that the PS4 Pro does not play Bluray 4Ks for some inexplicable reason. 4K gaming is gorgeous on it though, Horizon Zero Dawn highly recommended.

Came here to say just that. XBOX is your best bet for 4k and gaming.

Amazon will more than likely have the PS4 Pro deal again come black friday of you can wait until then.

Why would you sell your PS4 to upgrade to a PS4 Pro… even on a 4K TV the improvements are minute and not worth the trouble. Not to mention that it cannot play 4K-BluRay disks. Honestly if you wanted extra performance you should've gone with the Xbox One X or a HTPC. Otherwise you'll probably sell your old unit for $150 (?) and then put an extra $300 (?) for a small upgrade.

    edit:
$300… okay that's a good deal (for you) to sell your old unit, you can find a new PS4 Pro from $350 if you're lucky.
They usually set you back around $450 with some games you can sell off, to offset the amount back to around ~$400 mark.
By the way, the Xbox V and PS5 will not be coming in 2019 anymore… both pushed to Q3 2020 launch. Although I don't know how either will respond to Nvidia's new GTX 2070 cards, they're pushing hard on the AI/Tensor Cores for realtime Raytracing graphics (instead of the traditional rasterisation) and some games have already been patched updated. Obviously AMD does not have this technology, and its not possible for them to design and implement it in-time for their 7nm Ryzen v3/Navi APU's. Its not a big deal now in Q2 2018, but with Nvidia's influence on the PC Market it should be a big deal in games come Q4 2020.

even on a 4K TV the improvements are minute and not worth the trouble.

That's very subjective and certainly not true. 4K HDR supported games are a huge difference from regular PS4.

The edit in your comment is pure conjecture not gonna bother addressing.

        True.
However, its not the faux-4K that makes the "huge difference" it is the HDR function.
And even the weak Xbox One S can do HDR without the faux-4K, so you're wrong on that one.

Besides, most gamers will not notice a huge difference jumping from the PS4 to the PS4 Pro.
They will see a difference with the weak/base Xbox One to the Scorpio… however, even that is mostly limited with the subpar performance of the Television monitor (ie/ not a Gaming Monitor).

        • Though the new games coming out will make more use of the upgraded graphics & CPU right?

So a game like GTA 6 would have a more dense forest or traffic on ps4 pro compared the 1st gen PS4 right?

          @ufsta:

          Not really.
Those are things that tax the CPU and System Memory, not so the GPU. The upgrade would have a higher resolution and more graphical features though. Also I would say the framerate would be more consistent at 30fps, instead of dipping to 22fps like the Base PS4 is prone to do. One good way to see the difference is to look at Far Cry 5 (game that's cpu AND gpu intensive), and see how it performs on the XB1/PS4/PS4 Pro/XB One X.

The CPU in the Base PS4 and the PS4 Pro are pretty much the same. And when I say that, they're just not very good.
Think of the small/cheap Intel Atom cores… similar to that, there's eight of them under the hood. And its a major bottleneck. The CPU going from the Xbox 360/PS3 didn't get much more powerful… the systems merely got much more memory (8GB instead of 256MB) and the GPU got quite a bit faster. We saw a similar evolution with the Pro and Scorpion but on a smaller scale.

Next-gen consoles are going to get their biggest performance increase simply by updating from those slow and inefficient CPU cores to AMD's Ryzen. Ryzen still isn't as good as Intel's expensive Core i-chips, but its very close, and they could zero the gap by 2020. However, another bottleneck of the devices are the storage. 5400rpm spinning rust are much faster than the slow spinning BluRay discs of the PS3… yet the spinning rust is much slower than even the cheapest SSD. I'm hoping the next-gen consoles include a (non-removable) 256GB nVme SSD which stores the Operating System, User Settings, and Content… whilst also housing the Game Engine and Essentials as well. This means all the less-used Game Assets like Textures, and large Updates can live in the (user removable) 4TB HDD. This would speed the system up quite a bit too, using smart software innovations like AMD's SenseMI tiered storage rather than the crappy Intel Optane cache solution.

Wow , how did you get $300 for your 1st gen ps4 ? Was that just for the console and 1 controller .

  • Anyone wondering why PS4 Pro over a regular PS4? Dirt 4… framerate difference is insane

Even if a game is not Pro enhanced, the higher frame rates make it worth it

  • Merged from PS4 Pro Console Bargains out There?

Hi all. Has anyone seen any PS4 Pro Console bargains out there? I've been searching but can't see much better than $553. Hoping to pay with the Go Mastercard Interest Free, but open to cash also. Many thanks.

  • Still waiting for a reasonably cheap price..
the $467.10 on ebay wasn't cheap enough cuz i keep remembering the $389 on Amazon…
So should have gone for that….
