Sony A7 Mirrorless Full Frame $879.96 + $9.95 Delivery @ Ted's Cameras eBay

I know this is getting a bit long in the tooth, but still a decent full frame tool from Sony for someone on a budget.

yes it has well documented shortfalls
no it is not ideal
yes the AF makes you wanna use manual focus quite often
intending to shoot sports? well you can do it, but there are better options.

still, I think it's a great deal for a full frame with outstanding IQ.

this gives me hope! i will wait for the a7 III to drop to 800 AUD! LOLLLL just might a quite a bit of wait.

    • Probably when the A7 VI is released.

      • +2

Hopefully they'll have stock by then.

        • This!!

        • exactly - cant find the a7s anywhere :( would be a very decent buy if it was still available.

  • I've used my friends quite a bit and find it exceptionally decent.

My only real gripes are the lack of IBIS which limits the glass you can use (if you want IS that is) and that whatever glass you do buy is expensive!

Take gst off this and it's a bargain I think!

  • A full-frame mirrorless for this price is a steal. So small, pics are amazing. Not sure why people complain about AF - in practice it is rarely an issue. Can take legacy lenses with adapters. What more so you want?

    • Depends what it is you are trying to focus on, really.

      • Lol, I 'see' what you did there

  • for someone wanting to get into sony, full, frame and mirroless, it’s a good start, and bodies seem to evolve over time with features and sensors but lenses don’t.

i’m more a dslr person, i upgrade bodies but haven’t found need to ditch older lense as a new version is better.
    i own nikon and canon.

    • Disagree. It depends what you shoot and what lens you have. It is great price for a camera for older manual focus lens. You have essentially the same FF sensor as the A7 II, its very light and compact (especially for a FF body) if you can live with IBIS.

  • i've got the a6000 and have been wanting to get into full frame but worry about this not being able to get focused pics of the kids. is the only way to get into full frame and have speedy autofocus to go for a7iii?

    • -1

      no, it's actually Canon 6d :D

      • ugh its so big!

      • I'd love to see a 6D for $879.96

        • 6d is still cheaper than a7 mk ii

    • I'd say keep the A6000 for when kids are running around and get an A7 for when you can keep them still or you're taking pics of other things. Probably cheaper to keep both than to buy an A7III at the moment.

Either that or wait for Nikon and Canon to release their full frame mirrorless offerings. Might drop the price of A7III and other Sony full frames.

    • I have the A7ii which is find at AF-S to be honest. not the fastest but manageable.

its only when you try and use continuous focus when you really start seeing the short comings.

If you don't care about the benefits that full frame brings then Id suggest looking at a6300 (a6500 IBIS is awesome but more expensive) as that is awesome for focusing and supports Eye-AF continuous focus too which is the best feature for me.

Full frame for IQ and that DOF ! so awesome if you do low light photography and portraits :)

  • any a73 or a7r3 deal?

      do not want

      smartphone better.
      come with lens

      • Tuk tuk bad
        Tuk tuk miss stone

  • Still a good camera if you employ proper shooting techniques. I overly rely on IBIS on my Panasonic/Olympus cameras so when I use my A7 I have to shoot 'better' instead of just happily snapping away. It's getting old but still good if you want to be creative or you want work on your skills. AF on the A7 is fine with the right lenses and don't need a high burst rate. But if you need to photograph kids running around and/or there's not a lot of time and opportunities to capture the moment then there are better options. Much cheaper too if you get either get Panasonic/Olympus or Sony A6000.

For anyone wanting to jump to full frame because it's full frame, consider whether it's really worth the cost. If you've got the money then go for it. If not then consider the cost of full frame lenses. Usually costs more than APS-C or Micro Four Thirds, both of which take really good pictures without requiring you to spend a lot on gear. If you wanna do full frame on the cheap though, get an A7 cheap and some old manual focus lenses. It can be a lot of fun and creatively rewarding.

    • precisely. I am more of a macro-portrait-landscape person, and a7 works fine for me big time, especially because it's so light

taking pictures of things that hop around or jump at ya is not my game

  • Don't know why AF is some kind of big problem. Mine was sufficiently quick to get my dog who hates photos. AF never stuck out as a problem to me on the a7. Battery life however…

    • ah yes, the shots per charge, I know. gotta frame and plan ahead! :D my Canon DSLR that costs $300 delivers 3 times more shutters per charge. but at the price point of a7 right now, it can be overlooked.
