Most of you probably already know about the program as it has been mentioned on here before, but for those that don't it's a reward program designed to keep people healthy. Benefits include 50% off fitness first/ virgin active gyms, weekly $5 vouchers from boost juice/woolies/ hoyts, (up to 50% off Qantas flights- edit TBC..can't see this option atm ) to name a few. A quick search on ozbargain will show u faq regarding the program.
U need to join through the REST app or text the number listed on the site.

Edit: does not include Qantas flights. Limited version of the program but still very useful. Thanks to Strapify Australia for confirming.

      • Platinum is definitely not too bad. If you've maxed out your physical points, then doing a general health check up and their surveys will be more than enough to push you over the edge.

Getting free flu shots from work is also a nice little bonus.

        • I've been thinking I should do the general check up, but it kind of seems like a waste of my GP's time and I haven't had much luck finding a pharmacy that does all that stuff.

This is a really good program. Getting this for free is an absolute bargain.
I have been with AIA for insurance reasons and their Vitality program for a few years now.
I usually earn $5 a week in rewards as I ride to work. As well as getting $20/$40/$60/$80/$100 vouchers for reaching certain points milestones as they accumulate through the year.

  • Currently an Anytime member (month to month) and asked about changing to AIA status.

Said they can change but need to join for 12 months but the rate will be increased to the club rate. However depending if i meet the cashback criteria (visit 24 times in 91 days), overall it will be cheaper.

So is it worth paying slightly more and having to stay with Rest and visit 24 times in 91 in a 12 month contract?

    • I thought it just stayed at the price you're paying but you are just locked into another 12 month contract? In the same situation so will go and suss at some point since it essentially halves the cost per year and easily go more than the needed times.

      • Please let me know how it goes for you. I'm out of my contract and pay $56/month. Club rate is around $66 per month but varies between each club.

    • -1

How much is the club rate

    • Are you paying less than 60 dollars per month? My gym fee went down with AIA.

      • Yes 56 a month without aia

  • Does anyone know if the rewards system will still be worth it if I never go to a gym (as going to partner gyms seems to yield a lot of points)? I run daily outside and do organised sports instead.

    • I don't think it'll be worth it. The gym discounts is the major selling point of this program. The other big advantages (QANTAS discount and weekly reward vouchers) seem to be excluded under the REST deal, so I think the worthwhile stuff would be missing for you.

    • The other perk that I like is 50% off endota spa vouchers up to 4x a membership year if you get to platinum.

Hoyts movie tickets are also discounted but you can't use them after 2pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

  • Dam, just consolidated my Rest Super account to Host Plus and now they can't find my member number….

Can I strap my fitness tracker to my dog?

    • Does it work on the cat too?

Is no one worried about privacy implications and what AIA/REST could use this collected data for? As a dedicated bargain hunter I don't mind selling my shopping/marketing data for a discount but signing up for this basically means a insurance company has track of you 24/7. I tried to connect my fitbit and the API wants access to everything including heart rate, steps, possibly location as fitbit records it for a sync.

I know Google & Facebook has a lot of our info but their primary revenue model is advertising but insurance companies make money by not paying out too much. I don't know if this is worth it. Even if you hit all targets its a $5 * 52 reward but for what cost.

    • +2

I'm not filling out their health stats thing, don't want a future insurance claim denied because AIA tells Rest I eat cheeseburgers 9 times a day.

      • +2

That is exactly my point, "9 cheeseburgers" a day may even be a calorie deficit for a cyclist on the tour but insurance companies will use every little bit of info against you.

    • +1

Yes, exactly why I'm not joining despite being within Rest anyway.

Rest had life insurance as default for my super fund, but there was an option to turn that off. I don't mind the small cost of life insurance in case something goes wrong, but giving my insurance company health data directly is a recipe for disaster. There are so many things that could potentially wrong with this privacy wise I'm surprised people are whole hardheartedly jumping on board, especially given the concerns of My Health Record and that was a government agency.

Let's say I have no faith that the insurance companies do this for a good, if not at best benign reason.
Our data is the most important thing we possess because it tells our story.

This amount of intrusive, worse-than Owellian spying into our health lives is not worth $5/week. But I'm sure that most people feel like it's pointless to try and maintain privacy when the concept of privacy seems to be under attack and eroding rapidly every day. And hey, it's $5/week FREE! Who doesn't like free stuff?

I don't really know what I'm trying to say really. Just putting my thoughts out there, would appreciate some reassurances that maybe I'm correct or maybe I'm being delusional and health data and insurance is a highly ethical field. I have no real insider knowledge, and I keep thinking to myself that I sound like a conspiracy theorist?

      • +1

You are correct to be concerned.

However, with AIA Vitality you can control what data you provide. If you want to link a fitness device to the program, that's up to you. If you want to submit the results from your health check, it's your decision to do so. You dont have to provide any data if you choose not to.

I joined earlier this year, really just for the gym discount, and would like to think I have been careful in what health data I provide, yet I still should rack up enough points to hit Gold status and hopefully platinum. The vouchers along the way are handy too.

I think the program is great.

    • Thank you for bringing that up. It is a NO from me then.

  • If you have a life insurance with AIA, do you get a free AIA Vitality membership?

    • No, joining Vitality is extra on top from memory.

    • I think you also get a discount on your life insurance if you have the vitality membership.

So can we just sign up to rest and not move our super in? Any ongoing fees?

    • the fees would come out of your super anyway.
they would close the account after a period of inactivity

    • You have to have employer contributions going in or a certain balance to get this deal.

  • Can't get it to work, stuck on the send email verification part in the AIA.

Clicking resend and editing email just says fail.

    • Yep same.

  • +1

Anyone else not receiving the activation email? Clicking resend also gets a failed to send error.

    • Same here, not receiving it on my Gmail

      • It came in my promotional sub folder fwiw

  • I'm not receiving the verification email from AIA. I tried both a Hotmail address and later a Gmail address.

I set this up yesterday. App crashed several times, need a couple of app restarts but got there in the end.

Hi, how do I become member of Rest? Is there charges associated? Thanks in advance

    • It's a superfund. Google rest superannuation.

  • Thanks OP! Working on this end, and signed up to Anytime with a super good rate.

    • What was the rate if you dont mind me asking?

    • No problem pizzaboy. Would love to know your rate at AF too.

      • +1

Came to $720 per year with the stupidly expensive key fob cost ($70). So $320 with the $400 rebate!

        • Shouldn't that be $320 plus key fob fee (?$70) plus joining fee (?$99), at least for the first year?

  • Does any one know if you need to redeem the 50% off platinum flight within the year or it’s forfeited?

    • Edit: does not include Qantas flights. Limited version of the program but still very useful. Thanks to Strapify Australia for confirming.

      • Thanks, I meant for the original program. Probably not the right post to ask but I figured there would be enough knowledgeable people in here?

        • Membership status carries over, so if you are platinum in your starting year, then as soon as year 2 starts you can still claim the 50% off a flight. You can only get the status based cashback once a year though so if you don't use the one in year 1 then you're basically missing out on a half price flight.

  • Silly q prob but fitness first is now good life throughout wa. Does this mean aia only applies to fitness first gyms still open over east for the rest of you? Or is the naming terminology old??

  • Hi guys is my AIA membership number the same as my super membership number ? Where do I find my AIA membership number on Rest App, it seems that I can only access AIA via Rest App, I could not create an AIA account, do I have to use Rest App to access AIA ? Did anyone successfully create an AIA account using Rest membership ?

    • For android, In the Resp app -> AIA Vitality -> Top left Person icon. Brings up your membership number

  • Just wondering how do they track frequency of gym attendance?

    • How can I ensure I get my cashback each quarter?

Just visit the gym 24 times in 91 days (quarter) and you’ll get $100 cashback – that’s up to $400 cashback per year. You need to ensure you swipe your membership fob each visit, so each visit is accurately recorded and to be counted towards your minimum visit requirement.

    • They pull the data from the gym security system.

I've been on month by month with Anytime Fitness, and I pay $60 per month. I went to my gym, and asked to renew my contract (so another 12 months) with the AIA deal. They said that the cost per month will increase $2, since they're deducting 10% off their membership. It's worth it to me anyway thanks to the cashback. The caveat is obviously going to the gym 24 times in 91 days, which seems easy enough considering it's only once every 3 days to meet the criteria.

    • I'm in a similar situation to you, having to increase monthly membership to get the AIA status. If circumstances don't change then it's worth it. E.g. if AIA pulls out of the cashback deal then I don't think Anytime will be kind to let us go back to our old rate.

  • Does anyone how to find out what the weekly target is for active benefits. I received a pop-up notification from the Rest app this morning saying my weekly target for active benefits had been set for the week, but I can't seem to find what my target is in the AIA Vitality section of my Rest app.

    • Mine started at 7,500 to 12,499 steps per day will give you 50 points and 12,499+ steps per day will reward you with 100 points. It's only my second week of using the program so I'm not sure if the weekly target will change.

    • its under: AIA Vitality -> active benefits. I was told that the max weekly target is 500.

  • +2

Thanks OP, managed to link my existing anytime fitness account with AIA, didn't have to sign a new contract. Received 10% discount as well.

If I also get $400 cash back, I will technically be paying $3.50 for a month.

    • edit:nvm

    • Hi, how did you do this? Are you month to month or did you pay up front? I'm having trouble getting my anytime to do this for me without signing another contract as I payed in full.

  • How did everyone here get such cheap rates at Anytime Fitness? I enquired at my local/home gym and they are saying my rate will increase to $69.10 per month

    • have to negotiate with the club manager who can do a manual price. if they didn't offer you the 10% off, then try the promo code AIAANYTIME online on their sign up page online. google "clubwise anytime fitness YOURSUBURB" e.g. clubwise anytime fitness northcote https://secure17.clubwise.com.au/northcote/pos.asp
