      r u sure about this. What I know is u r not allow 2 touch the phone unless u r pasting it phone onto someone else regardless being mounted or not. Been using voice commands to navigate,call and text. correct me if I am wrong. I'm in NSW BTW.

        agree, do not touch the phone, doesn't matter what you do.

        being a driver myself for only 5 years, even i can easily tell if one is using a phone or not from a distance if that guy isn't being careful.

        i would just pull over and use the phone.

        but this do allow less chance of messing around with normal mount, especially those ones need 2 hands.

        i have one, but its not automatic, still one hand oprate. and i will never go back to the traditional type.

  Correct me if I’m wrong I thought wireless charging is smarter than using infrared light to detect if a proper device has been attached.

  Personally I’d select some brand I am more familiar with like Beseus and I have found a few of them selling below 20 (19.62) as well on eBay.
  The Beseus uses gravity to tighten the arm, so there is no need to release the arm then adjust it. The spring will push out the arm and phone’s weight will make the arm adjust.

    The infrared sensor would be used to detect when you are placing the phone into the holder. The mount will close (or open?) depending on where it detects the phone.
    The infrared sensor would have nothing to do with charging.
