      A new version is always coming soon. Whether it's in a few months or up to 12 months. It doesn't make the featured deal better or worse. If someone needs an iPad today they can get one cheaper today.

        But if someone doesn't 'need it today' (and how many bargainers do?) it's useful to know that your investment may wind up even more cheaper - or just obsolete in a few months. Given the bargain is usually the spontaneous, and so less-researched purchase, knowing a near upgrade is useful.

      Apple has a great warranty process so they have alot of returned stock with very minor (and fixed) issues.

      The referb notebooks i have purchased were shop returns, where a customer has returned the product a short time after purchase, possibly to upgrade to a new notebook with higher specs or a different class of computer. I have purchased two notebooks, both were as new and there has never been an issue with either notebook, definitley a way to purchase a near new item at a discount, and with a manufacturers warranty.

    but aren't ipads next to useless? expensive, one app at a time & they can't even display flash lol. imo a cheap netbook is much better value.

      I use my iPad a thousand times more than my netbook. Mainly because you switch it on, and off it goes. No booting up. It's so fast for a quick net search, check of mail or whatever. Plus, it proved super handy when there was floods here and the electricity, modem and phone were down for 24 hours. Also, in this situation you could charge it in your car. Best gadget!

        You can power nearly anything you want from your car with the right equipment.

      It's great, though a little expensive for what it does (browsing, chatting, playing a few games etc).
      For the price of a new iPad you can buy 2 netbooks or a Core i3 laptop.

      I for one still prefer the click clack of a physical keyboard, and the comfort of a high resolution screen.
      Portability be damned — I'm man enough to carry a backpack with a netbook or a laptop.

      latest OS (4.2.1) has some kind of multitasking feature by double tapping home button twice. I'm using it for mainly FB, read news and stuff. If you like to watch porn site, then ipad will turn you down cuz lack of flash :P

    FWIW, it's not true multi-tasking. And flash is possible if you jailbreak - although it's pretty buggy.

    But like others have said, V2 is almost here so I'd be inclined to wait, even if it's just for cheaper V1 prices. I'm pretty sure major retailers were discounting iPads recently as well, such as BigW?

          I leave costly iPad for others…

      I wont refuse if someone offer me one for free. It might be useful for some simple 'computer related' tasks and keep your table handy (and also as a nice paperweight lol).

      I guess it wont be a good idea to use in a context of some serious computer tasks. But I never know anyone around is using it for server-side programming.

    Why are we debating the usefulness of iPads instead of the deal itself? Im not sold on iPads either, but obviously theres a market out there with the huge demand that its experiencing. I think bargain hunters like ourselves may be skeptical but obviously there are people out there with higher disposable incomes who feel that the convenience of the tablet outweighs the cost…

    This deal is decent if you want one right now, but I would wait until the announcement re: Ipad v2 is made, that'll cause the global value of ipads to drop. Then you can make an informed decision about whether to purchase the new one (high cost vs new features), or get the old one (which'll probs get cheaper).

    netbook is a jack of all trades but doesn't do anything particularly well. I believe those who gave negative comments on ipad lack the knowledge about tablet pc and cloud computing and what purpose they serve.(although Ipad might not be considered as one of those) You have to give credit to apple in bringing back the tablets. It's not perfect but certainly gives user a very good experience, it's responsive and most importantly it's not Windows. I rather get a device that I can finish replying my email while the other is still displaying its boot screen.

    and refurbish products are a good deal!

      Hint to reduce boot time of your laptop: just keep it in hibernate mode, yes nothing new and you know it already ;0

      There are lot of free alternatives to Windows which does its task well (eg Ubuntu).

      If I go for refurbish why don't I think about an 'ePad' which might do the same thing as IPad. ePad is much cheaper it seems. I am just wondering…

      And I am not sure why we need 'tablets' for cloud computing…

      But yes, its your money, anyone has nothing to do with the way you spend it :)
