ALDImobile's Signal Continuously Lost

Dear all,

I am just wondering if anyone using ALDI's mobile plan encounters "kind-of-signal-lost". I am putting this term in quote because it is really weird that on the mobile, it still shows with 4G and full reception, but the true is there is no data transmission (cant play game, Facebook or Google Maps, etc.) and many of my friends said they could not contact me and I was not aware of it as no sms missed calls indicated.

Initially, i thought it was my mobile's faulty so i have restarted my phone and do some isolated tests such as deactivate->reactivate the sim again, turn the data on/off, using another sim card. It comes to the conclusion that there is no faulty with my phone and I have been suffered this problem since last week. I did contact the ALDI Mobile supporters but they said there is no issue on their side (I suspected that the reps are not fully aware of the fact from management or engineering side).

I have a little knowledge in telecommunications field so from my understanding, there are 2 possibilities:

  1. They are upgrading/maintaining the node recently
  2. ALDI Mobile is trying to cut the nodes and I am quite on this side as recently the 365-day plan has increased to $99/12GB data compared to my one $250/42 GB.

Any one who works in Aldi Mobile, Telstra Mobile or encounters with similar problem, please share your experience.

Thanks all.

  • such as deactivate->reactivate the sim again

    How do you do this?

Have you tried a replacement aldi sim?

    • I used Oneplus so they have the option to do so :)

  • Initially, i thought it was my mobile's faulty

This is probably still the most likely culprit. Aldi Mobile uses the Telstra network, so if that was down you'd hear a lot more people complaining.

so i have restarted my phone and do some isolated tests such as deactivate->reactivate the sim again, turn the data on/off, using another sim card.

None of these actually tests if your phone's faulty…, though:

    using another sim card.

If you used a non-Aldi/Telstra sim and it still didn't work, then it's almost certainly your phone.

    • I used the Vodafone sim card and it works just fine though

      • Huh that's weird. See sane's comment below maybe there was a temporary issue with Telstra's network?

Definitely sounds like a phone issue to me… How much testing did you do with other sims? Can you make a call when it shows 4g but data doesn't work? Possibly its just congestion?

I suppose you could ask Aldi to replace your SIM. As for point 2 there is no conspiracy to randomly disconnect people just because they chose a budget provider. My partner uses Aldi Mobile fine.

  • try lebara - very good

Had it this morning. Fixed on reboot, so I guess someone at Telstra screwed something up overnight.

  • Are you on Wifi Calling? My home has poor telstra signal and when we walk around the house while on a call the audio is lost when (I'm guessing) the phone picks up a different wireless AP. When the call drops I flick off Wifi and then it picks up straight away on cellular.

  • no issues with aldi signal here

  • I had an issue with texting on Aldi this morning some texts seemed to go though others are stuck somewhere in the ether
