I was living out of home at 17 and went on a diet of nothing but Savings branded 2 min noodles. Cost was < $10 per week.

Needless to say I got sick.

Go to Kmart every week to see the clearance items. T-shirts go down to around $2.00 (men), pants around $5.00 etc

  • Know someone who bought a house with a street light right outside to save them using their own, they also took the light bulb out the fridge

Worked with a girl who earned about 80k who bought 2 tops from kmart at the weekend for $15 each, then noticed later in the week they reduced to $10 each so she returned them and got a refund of $30 then walked into the store and picked up 2 identical tops for $20

And checked for deals twice a day.

…tried to post a few deals too, but someone has usually beat me too it!!!!

    • twice a day, is that it?

      • yep, morning and afternoon.

        Sometimes the evening also….

        probably other times too :)

        • u sure not every hour ? XD

  • I shower with Aldi dish washing detergent - only $1 for a litre - goes a long long way.

Is it difficult showering when you need to avoid treading on the plates and cutlery?

I made a sandpit for the kids this weekend and instead of buying sand from Bunnings for $35 I went to the park and tried to fill some aldi bags full of sand from the playground.

Some old guy dobbed me in as I was filling up bags of sand and a lady from the council turned up and said just buy it from Bunnings you tightarse and made me put the sand back. In the exact same spot. Even had to brush it off my pants. She asked my name and everything. Surprised they didn't get the coppers out.

So then I went to the beach and filled up the bags there and loaded them into the stroller and pulled them over the dunes back to the car. Ended up breaking the stroller and then lost a child and found him locked in one of the toilets. The bags split in the car on the way home and there is bloody sand everywhere. Would do it again tho.

Have you thought about going to the sand instead of taking the sand to you? That is, take the kids to the beach.

Understand if it might be far away though.

    • A true Ozbargainer would have saved countless dollars in future expenses by leaving the kid locked in the toilet.

Whenever I have the choice between credit with fee and debit with no or lesser fee I consult my spreadsheet created on Google sheets to determine the real cost/saving taking into account points earned, tax, missed interest, etc.

    • Would be interesting to see this sheet. Care to pm it to me?

I pee into a bucket, dilute with water.

    Then water my garden

Surprisingly urine is an unlimited source of natural fertiliser

  • Take Ikea coffee cups off the dirty dishes carousel before they go into the trapdoor, rinse them in boiling water from the coffee machine then fill up
Reuse costco soft drink cups until they're so old the drink leaks out the bottom, although I do splurge and buy the first cup

I used to bring home toilet paper from the bathrooms at uni

must have saved at least double digit $ doing this

Don’t know if I should be proud of this but for those who knows about the KFC feedback offering free chips and drink, you should know that if the feedback was not done using the information on receipt within 2-3 weeks, the information on the receipt will not be able to used after that.

So I ALWAYS have a KFC receipt with me in my wallet and one time while dining in KFC, I realised I’ve forgotten to do the feedback, leaving the receipt to sit in my wallet and become “expired”. What I did next was wandered around the restaurant, found a target and peaked at the receipt fully showing its information while the owner was busy linking his finger good. Ultimately, using the information that I’ve ‘stolen’, I completed the feedback and was able to claim a free regular chip and drink on top of the $5 lunch box I’ve purchased.

The codes aren't checked. You can jot down any five digits and hand it in. They don't check dates most of the time as well. It's good to give feedback though.

      • I've had them check the code at the Southland KFC and got knocked back.

        • Haha how did they check?

  • Waited until petrol was the cheapest. And filled $x.02

    To save 2c

    I cut my own hair.

    • +1

Me too! I don't know why people pay for basic cuts. It's pretty easy as long as you've got some trusted hands to even out the back.

I used to just do buzzcuts but now I do a half fade.

The clippers cost me $40 and I've cut my hair about a dozen times now. Do the maths!

    • +1

Why don't you get your partner to cut your hair - wouldn't it be easier?

      :
      .

Oh, I see, that's what happens when you cut your own hair! :)

  • I was trying to buy tennis shoes online but didn't know my size. Shopped with a store that had a sale on and free shipping and free returns and ended up buying two sizes (half size difference between them). Each pair cost $130 so $260 total (RRP is about $230 each pair, but who pays RRP?). I decided on the size that fit and was going to send back the bigger pair. The next day, the price dropped to only $90 a pair! I ended up buying another pair at $90 in my size and sending back both pairs I bought first at $130 each. Net result: one pair of correctly fitting shoes for $90! (essentially saving $40)

I collect my work colleagues coke cans and turn them into 10c a pop.

    • wish someone would do that at work, like most people we all throw them in the so called recycling bin or general bin.

The not accepting crushed can's makes it too annoying to make a half ars d effort

      • +1

I look like a homeless dude on the train with my bag of cans and a pair of Bose Qc35's

    • I'd totally do that if I lived in NSW or SA.
