Should I Get LG G6 or Samsung Galaxy S8?

So I found a deal for the Lg G6 for 500$ at Allphones eBay and the Samsung galaxy s8 for 700$ on Allphones eBay. I am thinking if spending the extra 200$ would be worth it for the s8. Also giving your opinion for your choice would be much appreciated. There are so many people voting for the S8 and I want to know why so I can review your opinions. Also, isn't applying a tempered glass protector on the S8 a nightmare?

Thanks,
Kevin

  • Make it a S8+

    • Sorry but I much prefer the small size of the s8.

  • +1

I haven't owned the g6, but I've had other phones in the G series and they're absolutely great. (Also, you may want to check out Kogan too)

    • Kogan’s 70$ more expensive so I will go with Allphones

  • g6 because price. just walk into jb and you'll easily be able to knock off $100

    • What do you mean by knock off 100$?

      • negotiate $100 off

        • At JB HI Fi, the price for LG G6 would be 599$ so chipping 100$ off would make it a dollar cheaper than Allphones. Plus negotiating would be a hassle compared to ordering online.

If you are close to a JB it would be easier and you will get your phone quicker.

You: hello my friend, I want to buy the LG g6, can you price match this (show friend allphone price on your mobile device) and I will buy it now

          Them: yes, there you go

You: thank you good friend (while inserting sim car into g6 then logging onto ozbargain and thanking your other friends)

        • @TightBottom:
I would also like to buy a case and tempered glass cover off ebay and I would like to install the tempered glass before I even use the phone. Also I wouldn't even use my phone without a case because I would be scared to drop it.

        • @Kevin6300: warranty dealing will be much better through a b&m store

        • @Kevin6300:

My LG G6 came with a preinstalled screen protector.

        • @Kevin6300:

As said previously. Walk in to the phone section and tell them to price match. I did it and it was no hassle.

Have the link ready to show them once they ask. Took me less than a minute.

        • @GangGang:
Ok I will do that but first I will have to decide on which phone to buy.

  • How about the LG V30? if you don't mind going import via Kogan - $750 or so, cheaper on some other sites too.

    • Yeh I was thinking of that phone but isn’t it just a slightly upgraded g6 at the price of a s8?

      • Its got a decent DAC & a SLIGHTY bigger screen in it and I prefer the LG software over Samsung.
But the g6 and s8 have the sd cards.

        • But are the upgrades worth the extra 250 from the g6 to the v30?

        • @Kevin6300:
The extra $250? Probably not :)

And i just read that the aus versions have the DAC any way, so really you are paying for oLED over LCD - the newer processor I'm doubtful that you'd feel real world differences.

Personally I'm looking at the G7 in a few months really.

  • I've used iphones/+ as well as nexus with stock android, and now uses s8. I prefer the s8 instead of s8+ as it's not too large to fit in my pocket and i can use it one-handed.

Overall very fast and smooth, apps load quickly and i actually prefer it over stock android. The screen is the best part, and it's also light in the hand.

I've read the g6 is also quite good, so you can't go wrong with either

  • S8!!!!!

Had both and apart from the wide angle lens on the g6 it is infinitely better. Handles the 18:9 screen better for starters.

    • And the S8 has wireless charging which I like.

  • Doesn't the G6 have APTx? Not sure if the S8 does…if that matters to you?

  • dont know about the LG phone, but currently use a galaxy s8. Great phone. Only complaint is that the battery sometimes doesnt last the whole day, if you were using the phone a bit more than usual. And the interface gets slow after you put a bunch of apps on. But i think pretty much every phone does that?

    • Are you using a tempered screen protector?

  • I've had a heap of phones, didn't buy the G5 or G6, but I've had both the G4, s8 and s8+ as well and I'd opt for the S8 probably. But that's my use case, it's faster, larger screen and the Samsung software is a lot better than it used to be. But I use my phone a lot for work.
The screens and rear glass on the Samsung phone are really easy to break though. It's normally a couple of hundred dollars to repair through Samsung and it takes time. That's the biggest let down for me.
If you get the Samsung, get a good, protective case.

  • the S8 is 40% more expensive than the G6. I will go with G6.

  • I currently own the S8. My brother owns the LG G6. Comparison wise is the S8 uses a super amoled while the G6 uses LCD. The G6 is a bit more thicker and heavier than the S8. Specs wise S8 uses the latest. S8 has better system chip, processor and GPU. The G6 has dual camera which is good for landscape pictures while the S8 only has one but Low light picture quality is better on the S8. The S8 has edge display while G6 is flat. I recommend getting the S8. Applying the tempered glass is fine on the S8. If you stuff up you can do it again.

  • I must be the only person to not like the S8 - i actually quite dislike my phone alot. Feel free to buy mine.
