Only1 Branded VISA $100 Gift Card - $100 @ Woolworths (Save $5.95)

1680

Limit 10 per customer in a transaction.

Very useful to buy with your discounted Woolworths eGift cards which you buy at 5% off at various places (apparently only works in some cases - terminals are being upgraded to stop this)

Alternatively buy these with Amex for no cost, get extra rewards points for spending on Amex and then use the prepaid Mastercard at stores where Amex is not available or has a higher surcharge. Note the number of rewards points you get with Amex vs Mastercard will vary depending on the card/s you have.

This is part of Father's Day deals for 2018.

Going to get negged to say this but here it goes.

Bought 200 at one venue tonight.
Yes if you put through multiple it takes ages to validate.

I put them through one at a time.
Wasted about one roll of paper. Took 2 hrs.

    Worth it for me

    • lol why would this be neg worthy?

      • Saw a few people on here get negged for saying they had 10+ amex cards
        Or
Got heaps of those $10 jbhifi credits when it was on

    • Ok Broden

    • +1

Lol one at time, staff must hate u, approving 200 times

    • Would have been funny if you got mugged on the way to your car / it caught fire on the way home and they went up in flames / you were in a traffic accident and the tow truck driver took them / your house burns down or gets burgled before you can spend them. Good luck claiming the $20k back on insurance.

      • No that would not have been funny

        • I'd personally find it to be hilarious.

    • Nice work. Love the dedication. Guessing for points?

Edit: 25 of the 30 I bought yesterday are now spent and in the bin. Now to go hunting for another 30 this morning

      • For the points and to pay every single utility bill that I will get in the coming months
Car insurance, elec, water, rates, mobile, internet

        • That’s $20k worth of bills!

        • @nightelves:

          I love long hot showers!

        • Not sure if it is me - when I tried to use it online - the car insurance company for example - not successful as they cannot split the bill, went to pay council rates - they have to take one at a time , process it before allowing me to do the next one , a bit efforts seems to me - any pro tips here please ?

        • @AllWins:
Yeah some website payments you need to wait a few hours before their system allows you to put another one

I essentially put $100 on each bill and 1x payment on all my bills.

You can go through a lot of cards that way

        • @hellohello123:

Just use postbill pay if the rates allow it.

      • got the last 5 at my local store. they have ordered more. no ETA, hoping before the sale ends.

now to try the next store at lunch :D

    • +1

At least 60,000 MR points. Well done! I envy the fact that you have the opportunity to buy that many. And it's only day 1 of catalogue specials… :)

      • Would be 80k if he was local champion.

        • And using them to buy a nice car for his banking job?

        • +1

LC maxes out once you earn an extra 10k per year so not hard to do

        • Why should you get local champion for just 1 points extra and lose 5% egiftcard. Not a very smart way to get points.

        • -1

          @samehada:

Uhm yeah if you can buy the giftcards and pay with egiftcards. Obviously you haven’t been following the recent news. They’ve closed that loophole. Not a very smart idea to make comments without all the facts.

        • +1

@nightelves: not at every store, you must have not been reading comments in this thread.

This is the last time you can do this until the next promotion all system must have been updated so save you local champion points for next time.

        • +1

          @samehada:

I would not risk thousand of $ for 5% but then again I’m not very smart.

    • +1

Hope you scanned your woolworths reward card each time for an extra $30 for not needing a bag! ;)

  • +1

Might be worth adding to OP - takes a good 2 minutes a card to activate at registrar - allow some time if doing multiple.

    • +1

Yeah I got 10 last night and they took about 20 minutes to activate! The staff member kept asking me if they wanted to reset the terminal and I insisted not too lol!

Factoring in staff discount and amex explorer points, nice little saving :)

      • How much is the staff discount?

        • 5%

Do too much in a month and they will be asking you for a please explain

        • @Turd: how many is too much in a month?

        • @sillycow: would love to know as well

        • @spk: so far how many have you done?

        • @sillycow: just done $1000 using staff discount. another $1000 just using the eGC

        • +1

          @spk: I done $3,000 today still okay

        • @sillycow: ah right.I'm using friend's staff discount and don't want to put him in trouble if something goes wrong.

Never know how they monitor these.

        • @spk: I've seen other workmates did like 100 each today

        • @sillycow: do you mean $10k worth ?

        • @sillycow: $1000 could be reasonable as is the limit for gift card purchase in RACQ, definitely not $10k

        • @spk: yes I saw them doing batches definitely and they came again after 2 to 3 hours and repeat the process.

      • +5

I've even thought about getting a casual job at woolies just for the staff discount

        • +2

And coupled with a job from NSW Transport for free public transportation will be super …

        • @AllWins: and Salvation army for other things

  • +1

Datapoint: the activation was still slow at 7:20 this morning.

    • bought 5 at 11.15am in SYD, took about 20sec total

    • Brisbane: took at least 6 minutes to activate 5 cards 1230pm

      • I gave up. It isn't worth my time, so I stopped buying the cards. Instead I am buying the $100 eBay gift card with 2000 bonus points

  • Still heaps at Town Hall (Sydney) Woolies. Buying another one so I can meet the Amex points I need to redeem for free Harry Potter and the Cursed Child tickets heh

    • +2

      lol

      • Hey it's like $320 including booking fee! It's 12 000 points for a $100 Ticketmaster redemption so why not ahahaha (3 points per dollar at supermarkets with my main Amex)

        • That 12k is my one way biz class from Mel to Sydney :’(

  • +1

Bought 7 at northland, took about 15 mins to activate.

    • Mind me asking how many were left and did you pay with WISH eGift card? Thanks

      • I paid with a credit card. I think I might have got the last ones, didn’t find any other.

  • what is the difference between the green and orange coloured packs?

    • Nothing except packaging

    • No difference as long as it is only1

    • $100 is green and $50 is orange

      • +1

I see the same as you in store, but the image on the OP's links show 2 $100 with different colour.

        • +1

Maybe orange ones are the ones that expire January 2019 and green ones are the ones that expire January 2020

      • +1

Nope definitely orange and green both have $100. Maybe try other stores

    • +3

As log as its Only 1 Visa and the $100 cards your good to purchase. If you look at the packaging its just different branding. I believe the green is generic and the orange is branded for Birthdays while the one with the champagne image is branded as congratulations.

  • I bought 20, with Manager knowing, in Sydney.

Bought 10 with Amex Edge. Then went in again and got another 10, went to another register.

Manager saw me and said can only buy 10, I said I'm purchasing for friends using diff card(My Supp Card).

She insisted that can only buy 5 more and left, cashier and me went ahead and purchased the 5 and another 5 anyway.

So the '10 Card' limitation is really just a manual restriction, can social hack it.

    • Yes it’s just a system limitation
I scanned 11 cards and the system didn’t let me in .

But you can always buy in lots of 10

  • Anyone know if Australia Post allows multiple cards to be used for a single purchase?

    • Would be interested to know as well

    • Yes you can but if you can find a smaller local AustPost vs big shopping centre Austpost they’re more inclined to help you.

      • Thanks. Do you know if there is a maximum number of times the payment can be split between cards? I'm looking to buy ~$750 worth of satchels so would need to use 8 cards.

        • +1

I did $818 for my rego using eftpos giftcards last time if that helps. That was my highest.

        • @nightelves:

I think they only allow three cards at RTA.

  • Is it possible to convert these to cash?

    • +3

      No.

    • +2

      Not easily.

Takes creativity, persistence and potentially luck.

      • Care to illuminate us?

        • Price matching is an art.

        • @Turd: Prepaid/gift cards are our canvas.

    • +1

I'll buy them for $50 each..

  • -8

Even if you guys are paying with plastic, and not tons of notes, I can just imagine how dodgy this looks to the people on the registers (and also how much time it must waste).

If it were 5.95 off the actual $100 (i.e. pay 94.95 for 100 of credit, then its good). But all the effort to just convert credit from an AMEX card to a Visa, so you can earn AMEX points at places that usually don't accept it.

Just wait till the cops come raiding the supermarkets. AUSTRAC must be working overtime with all the money laundering alerts ( Woolworths is supposed to submit suspicious matter reports since they sell gift cards - but I doubt the high school kids on the counter knows anything about AML/CTF Act).

I was thinking of possibly using the deal to transfer the 5% off Woolworths Gift Cards to 5% at other places (e.g. Coles, which looks like you can only buy discounted gift cards if you are with some companies rewards programs, e.g. AGL). But even thats a lot of work, and people have said they wont take egiftcard as payment.

Plus, with all nonsense you are doing, you are bound to likely lose track of one (or multiple) gift cards, and that will make you lose $100 and wipe out the value of all your points.

      NOOB

      • -6

Why did you down vote me?

It may show the negative votes as hidden, but I got a downvote and then a few seconds later I get this comment.

        • +3

Explain why it's a waste of time.

Im about to pay my Strata bill. $1000, If I pay with my amex I get charged 3% fee. (example).
          And I only get 1000points.

          If I buy 10 x $100 cards I will get 3000 points.
And if I pay with visa the fee is 1.5%.

Worth it? I dont know. But it's a no brainer.

    • +1

      WE ARE SPARTA PROFESSIONALS

    • just because you cant see the value on it, it doesnt mean anything,

do you remember those $10 back on gift cards a few months ago,

many said it was stupid and not worth the $3 per card profit,

my friend bought close to a 1000 in a week and used that money to go for a overseas holiday for 2 weeks,

well worth it for him and me had I had the resources

    • Thank you for not purchasing and leaving more cards for the rest of us.

  • Bought 120 so far and now my platinum edge is blocked by amex. Have to call them on Monday they said, gaah

    • As in $1200 of cards?

      • +1

        That's 12 cards. I bought 12k worth

      • +2

        Pretty sure is 120 x $100 = $12,000 worth

      • Maths fail (had a long day at work; does that count as an excuse?) -_-"

Gee, no wonder Amex blocked your card :P I bought a paltry two in comparison haha

        • I have a 3k limit so bought 30/day and paid off the card by cob everyday. Somewhere it counted on their system that it yday I bought none but transferred in 3k therefore a 6k limit available but I did buy 30..

Think I'm done anyway. These should do me for a while I hope

        • @daft009:
did activation still take a really long time?

        • @googoogaga: took the usual 20-30sec for me all 4 days

        • @daft009:

That’s not enough points for one-way in biz class with Singapore Airlines. You need to keep going :)

        • @nightelves:
          Lol just saw this mate!
No it's not but it'll do. Effort vs reward and all that jazz.

Will have a decent balance again in a month or two with my business spend fingers crossed reward pay is awesome

    • On AFF a member reported seeing someone guy do 500 Visa 1 giftcard. That is insane!

  • How much are amex points worth? If you buy say $1000 worth of gift cards?

    • 3-4c each to me

      • Can I ask how you've worked out that your points are worth 3-4c. I've calculated mine to be worth about half of that.

        • +2

Different people value their points differently.
