    Hi all,
Is it true that one should chuck a non stick frypan to the bin if the Teflon coating has been scratched?

It's not great to be eating Teflon, but the small amount you might ingest whilst using a teflon coated pan is not going to hurt you. Even if a few flakes break off and get into your food, it's basically inert so will go straight through your gut.

Many non-stick pans now, including this one, are "PFOA-Free" which potentially make them even safer. Having said all that, if a pan is starting to lose the coating it's probably best to bin it. Aside from the bits of teflon you may be eating, even if it's not going to hurt you your food will start to stick and make cooking and cleaning harder.

Oh, just make sure you put 'em in the recycling - teflon or not they can be melted down for scrap metal.

    • Thanks very much for the information plasticspaceman :)
