Cant you build a HTPC on linux cheaper than this?

  • pvrs are generally a bit easier to use for the layman i guess..

    asrock ions are good

  • These are good units - I have the 500Gb version. You can pick them up 350 - 450 (last I saw was about $400 from memory). 2Tb is lot - although perhaps even too much considering the extra 150 - 200 you pay. Considering you can connect to a UPnP server, the extra space is perhaps more useful off machine. IceTV is a limited month subscription - cannot recall how long exactly - but the built in guide is pretty good. Real bonus with this one is the AV input - so you can plug foxtel in and record that (if you can remember to make sure foxtel is set tot he right channel at the right time though!) Real bonuses… can get your stuff off (comes off as .mts bit easily converted), plays mkv, and plays from network/USB

  • Note that ICE TV subscription is not included. It's only ICE TV compatible.

    • These work fine without a IceTV sub. The FTA EPG works fine.

If you get this from ICE TV, it cost $694 delivered which includes 1 year ICE TV subscription. This works out to be slightly cheaper if you want the ICE TV subscription.

Please update your details to note that ICE TV is actually not included.

        • Actually it comes with 3 months free icetv as standard.

  • Acryan DVR plus 2TB hard disk probably work out to be 400 max.

    seems very expensive…

  • For people in Perth dont forget it has to go to the eastern states for repir and the repair process is not a quick one ( in my experience )
