Fitting Wheel Rims to a Camry from a Ford?

I am looking at buying some really good condition second hand tyres for my 2005 Camry. The tires are exactly the same size as I currently have but they come on 2005 Ford rims. I want to avoid having to change the rims if I can. From research the wheel stud patterns are the same but the centre bore of the Ford wheels is about 10mm diameter bigger.

Is there an issue fitting these rims? Is this bore size difference an issue?

Thanks.

If you're lucky, you'll be able to buy hub centric rings to adapt the ford centrebore to yours. Some would argue you don't need hub rings, relying on your wheel studs to support your wheels. Also, you might want to check offsets - especially if you're looking at fitting RWD Ford wheels to a FWD camry.

Also… the cost to change tyres from one set of wheels to another shouldn't be more than 15-20 per wheel. If you jsut want the tyres, consider buying the wheels, swapping the tyres over then selling the ford wheels on their own?

The 215/60R16 tyres on the 2005 falcon and camry, on original rims, have the same bolt pattern and wheel offset.

The ford rims are 7j camry are 6.5j, so the rim is 1/4 inch wider on both the inside and outside but since the tyre is the same it shouln't have clearance issues.

Since the ford centre bore is 10.1 mm the ford rim will fit as long as the wheel nuts are of the tapered locating variety (these center the wheel when being tightened and hld it in place). If you have wheel bolts or nuts that look stepped you will need to find an adapter that converts the 60.1 to 70.5 center bore (as the center bore on this type of mounting literally centers the rim, the wheel bolts only holt the rim on the hub).

KMart will not fit 2nd hand tyres, for obvious reasons.

    • Really? I've never heard of any tyre store refusing unless the tyre is damaged.

      • Ring KMart and they will confirm. Reasoning is there could be unseen damage to the sidewall an dif they fit then they would be open to a legal claim

reaasons aren't obvious, unless you are talking about them not being able to upsell.

    • for obvious reasons.

Please, inform us of the "obvious reasons". Seems as though they are a little vague to be obvious

  • Hubcentric rings are mostly ABS plastic on eBay now. Seek out aluminium ones.

  • A guess even if you get rings, he offset will be off by a mile and they will stick outside the guards.

    • 16" = 50mm
      17" = 42mm

Quite positive. As mentioned near the top the 16s are the same offset for both.

      • I should probably read the thread before posting in future.

        • Ah never mind! Whenever RWD is mentioned I always think of Simmons and Centrelines.
          (Dishy stuff)

          I don't know what's in fashion anymore.

Thanks for all the advice and comments.

  • Be mindful some Toyotas use shank wheel nuts that will not work with other (tapered wheel nut) wheels.
