  • Excellent price!

Does anyone know if you can swap out the hdd for a ssd?

    • Looks like you can https://youtu.be/renPptxr3Nw

Have personally upgraded one of these laptops for my sister.
There's an extra empty m.2 sata ssd slot. So you don't even need to remove the hard drive to add an ssd.

There's also a spare RAM slot, so you can fairly easily upgrade this to double the memory.

      • Hi dumb question, install as SSD is for storage only? not for OS? any possibility to run OS on the SSD? thanks

        • +2

Generally you'd install the SSD then re-install the OS on it, or just clone the HDD contents to the SSD

    • It has a SATA3 M.2 slot.

Absolutely brilliant laptop for the price. And genuinely easy to upgrade with extra RAM and an SSD.
    Highly recommend it.

    This was just $740 recently…
I bought it then and returned it - there's an additional slot for an SSD (apparently) but I didn't install one. Also remember to get an adaptor because it ships with a US plug (and although someone said it comes with an adaptor, mine didn't).
The only reason I returned it is due to the battery life (it's heavier than I expected also, but still quite light for a 15.6" laptop)

Battery life is not your friend - maybe 5 hours.
Amazing build quality though and keypad is top notch.
Funnily enough the bezels also look so much bigger in reality.

    My 2 cents.

comes with an m.2slot, so you could keep the 1 tb for bulk data and add a small ssd for booting , os and main apps.

it’s a lot of laptop, seems it’s shipped from overseas but it comes with Amazon 30 days back guarantee, just needs an AU power cord.

    great value laptop.

doubt HN or TGG will have a deal like this.

    says 10% cash back ?

Its handy that they can fit a 15.6" display into a 14.2" footprint, it will be great when they get a 32" display into a 12" footprint!

    • 15.6” screen is measured diagonally as all screens are, even the TVs at stores are measured diagonally, the foot print is measured horizontally and vertically in this case the longest length of the sides of the laptop.
32” screen is probabaly about 28” foot print width wise without getting out the calculator.

The Galaxy X might be the important first step to make this a reality!

    • Must wrap around, not to be confused with a reach around

  • Hmm … did a quick search on ozbargain, the price has always been around AUD680+-. $774 doesn't seems like the cheapest it has been, in fact, far from the cheapest.

Maybe wait a bit for the black Friday sales and it might go lower.

    • The previous posts are before GST.
Combining this with 10% cashback this comes down to similar price. but again prices do keep changing.

      • Good catch!!

        • Another thing you can do is pay with something like 28degrees or coles card for price protection. You will not only get 10% cashback but if price drops, also claim the difference.

        • @Jimmy007:

I haven't try this before, but do you get price protection, if you pay using Coles card via Paypal?

        • @ausdday: Not sure may be contact them and ask? However you can't use PayPal on Amazon.

    • This is the first time it's been on Amazon AU though, so you get the benefit of local warranty

      • But the item is from Amazon US, by international seller. I am not sure you will get all the warranty that comes with, say buying from local JBHiFi.

I have bought this one from Amazon US and local Perth ASUS have confirmed the 1 yr warranty for it. I have got them to install M.2 SATA SSD for me.

On a separate note though, highest volume for this laptop is still very low.

    • But were those 8th gen processors.

  • Does this laptop has backlit keyboard ?
I been on the look out for a laptop of this type, but backlit keyboard is a deal breaker for me.

Would like to confirm before I BUy,

    thanks

    • +1

      no it doesn't

  • For all people thinking that it's a M.2. PLEASE READ THIS. The m.2 port is a M.2 SATA Port not the average NVME M.2 Port (THERE'S A DIFFERENCE)

    • +2

I have this laptop, and also one with NvmE. I can't tell any difference in performance, even if I know there should be.

      • I'm not sure what you mean. This model does not have the NVME port. M.2 Has different type of ports.

        • NvmE is a type of M.2.
What I mean is, I do not notice this laptop (with SATA SSD) being slower than my laptop that has an NvmE SSD. Both have same CPU and RAM.

        • @Make it so: Are you sure we're talking about the same model? This model contains the SATA3 M.2 Port rather than the NVME M.2 Port. You cannot place a NVME ssd into a SATA3 M.2 Port.

Not bad 774 and 77 cashback and about 70 trs when I go overseas so about 630 seems an ok deal though I would like backlit keyboard.

  • +1

    Got one. Thanks OP.

  • 6 hours battery only

    • a lot say only 5 hours

  • Hows the gfx compared to a 840m. Want to replace my old laptop
