Rowing Machine - Where to Begin???

Hi all :)

My wife has been bugging me for a rowing machine for ages and I'm keen to get one as the nagging is slowly killing my soul…

I saw one at BigW today for $249 but the reviews seemed to be "meh". I need one that will go in our bedroom and be most likely used early in the morning so quiet operation would be advantageous.

Any recommendations? Budget is up to $500.

Cheers :)

    Don't
Most go unused and end up in the tip.

Yep, get your wife a gym membership, where she can use decent equipment, instead of the cheap crap you're likely to buy.

yep, i picked one up off the kerb side

it certainly gives you a good work out compared to an eliptical trainer or treadmill

There are only two rowing machines that don't fall apart.

One is Concept2, forget the other one.

    Anything cheaper usually falls apart.

Hope your wife knows what she's in for, rowing is brutal.

Buy her a cheap one and say if she can stick to it for a year you will buy her a Concept2. They are awesome machines and will last decades. It is a fantastic fitness regime.

  • Get yourself an older second hand commercial grade machine. That way when you stop using it you can sell it on for the same amount you paid for it. I went for a First Degree Fitness E520, but I'd also look at a Concept 2. For $500 you will have to look for a while, but they do come up.

    An actual row boat

  • Decent ones go under the name of rowing ergometer. If you are prepared to get a better one for between $1-1.5k, they do last and resale is better, if you change your mind.

Get her a total gym - you will never be bored with it

  • Concept 2 or nothing. If you want a cheap one there is plenty of barely used cheap brand ones on gumtree

gumtree, because as stated above, many people buy fitness equipment and don't use them.

  • The WaterRower is the one that you want

  • Concept 2 PM4

Second hand could be just a touch over your budget.

Unfortunately, rowing machines are not as popular hence not as competitive as threadmills. It's just the one company dominating.
