Go have a look for yourself.

Honestly reading hundred reviews is not going to cut it. Go to the store, have a look at the ones in the price range and decide for yourself. Make sure you test the remote/UI fluidity and sound as well, not only the picture.

9 times out of 10, Bing Lee or TGG will match the best price you've seen anyway.

I usually go in after some OzB research, decide on the one I want in store, and then tell them I want to pay $X and theyll usually oblige.

    • +1

100% agree, these days reviews are all paid advertisements by people who have no better idea… Urgh

      • +2

No, 99% of reviews are paid advertisements.

But there are legitimate review sites such as rtings.

    • I disagree a little bit. The settings at the store often too bright and cloud our judgement. Ie. A good TV may look bad.

      • That's why you always take your own sample video on multiple USB sticks and great them with a level playing field.

Appliance Central had it for $2150 the other day on their site ready for price matching, and on their ebay site you could use penny5. Price is coming down.

  • Was looking at this 2 weeks ago but really washed out picture compared to Sony 9000f

For a bedroom I would go 65 Sony

Thanks guys for the valuable insights. spent an hour at TGG playing around with the tv. Remote UI was good -nothing great but not anything concerning either. Sound quality was particularly good. Even better than some of the more expensive Samsungs and LG. The picture looked washed out but i went into settings and could get it to look really good (i am no pro at this - probably just got it to look the way i like to watch)

have spent the evening browsing and looking for reviews by some actual users…..just cant find any! Really keen to make my call tomorrow morning!

    $2150 at Appliance Central

No mention of redemption, but it also might be applicable if TCL are promoting the redemption (best to check).

    • I rang them and they said the $150 promo was on. They then updated their website to mention it.

$2000 all in delivered is hard to resist.

I purchased the 65x4us qled last week, could not be happier, I was upgrading from 60 Inch Plasma. Great panel P.s any one want to buy a plasma? Hahahaha

Saw a few comments on whirlpool about the 'P' series regarding long startup time. Are you experiencing it too?

      • +1

It's an android operating system, the TV tuner is built into the android ui, so it's similar to starting an Android phone , you can enable a quick start mode which works fine. So I use quick start which is kind of like a sleep mode.

        • Thanks. Wondering what options did you evaluate before buying the 65X4US? It’s exact same price as the 75C4US so I am undecided on technology vs screen real estate. Did you also consider Hisense and what tipped the scale in favour of your choice?

        • @bargainiser: I wanted a qled, hdr, local dimming, and the harmon kardon sound bar, the brightness off this thing is insane, local dimming make a massive difference in darker scenes too, I also wanted android tv, so I could sideload all my footy apps for the big screen, hisense don't offer android tv, so that was not an option.

          @Retchey:
I just bought the 65x4us from TGG PRice matched Appliances online @$2080 with 50 months interest free and I got the $150 off.

I’m not sure how long the price lasts on their page though

  • How many years of warranty does the Good Guys provide on these?

  • +2

Honestly their Android version for the TV is crap. lots of bugs.

Hi Chetan would be grateful if you could be a bit more specific. Have you experienced it yourself. If yes what model have you got? Very interested to hear before I make the decision tomorrow.

    • I have been using 70C2US for last 6 months. No issue what so ever. very happy with the product

  • Is TCL the manufacturer that provides the longest TV warranty in Australia?
I don't remember which one was it. Is this one for 5 years?

    • Changhomg /chiq, offer 3 years with a bonus 2, so 5 years in total.

I would caution you to read some of the Whirlpool threads on these. I own a TCL and it had been a frustrating experience both with the TV and TCL customer service. My main issue is that it takes almost a minute to boot up. Way too long for a modern tv

Others have issues with headphones, hdd's and soundbars

    • Hi
Thanks. Been to these threads all day. There is very little or no mention of the 75C4US. Can you please confirm what TCL do you have? Another owner mentioned earlier that the delayed startup issue could be resolved with the quick start feature.

      • There is a quick start feature, it needs to be enabled in the android settings.

        • Yeh we know that champ. It varies from unit to unit and some have it work whilst others don't. I have a 55C2US but my folks have the 74C4US.

Quick start doesn't work even when enabled on both units.

Just giving you a heads up but you can roll the dice

        • @Chetnik73: >takes almost a minute to boot up. Way too long

It sounds trivial but I have a monitor that takes 20 seconds and it's goddam annoying.

        • @Diji1:

Totally. Especially as my other Android TV boots up immediately. The quality of the customer service is another pitfall. Generally they don't respond to email and over the phone they just make promises like 'our engineers are looking into it' with no timeframe or explanation of what is happening.

One last thing is that the TV has a bunch of Chinese bloatware that cannot be removed either.

The picture quality is not bad but the downsides far outweigh the pros of this unit. Spend a bit more and buy a separate Android box if that is what you want.

As it stands, I give this a rating of POS

  • I've never seen the QUHD term used in other TV brands. Marketing gimmick?

  • Have you got a costco nearby? I know they sell tcl not sure of the price though

  • In that price range you could get a 55" OLED, imo the image quality and colour far out weighs the larger panel size. Unless your bedroom is 10 metres long.

looking to upgrade the plasma in my master bedroom.

How big is your bedroom that you’d need a 75” screen?

  • Well as someone who upgraded from a 2015 Hisense 50inch 4k TV to the TCL 65p6us just over a month ago here are my thoughts so far. I have connected the following to it - Mi Box, Xbox One X, PS4 and Ps4 Pro and I can say the following. It needs a good half an hr or so of tinkering around with the settings to get a optimal picture.

As it comes out of the box it's basically set in a overly saturated and overly bright picture. After messing around with pretty much all the options the quality becomes immensely better. I've also connected through Bluetooth the recently bought ozbargain Grey's deal Bush Internet radio as well as SoundPEATS Q30 Earphones from Amazon with no hissing or delays whatsoever.

The only real issues are the slow android startup time which indeed is a good 40 seconds plus to startup. Also the youtube app was updated to the most recent android TV edition which adds more delays and ads to the videos itself but this is more of a app issue rather then the tv itself. I had the same thing happen to my hisense tv too.

I bought it at the end of July for a special price of $1534 after the cashback rewards and eBay voucher discounts which is a bargain considering it retails for $2399. Also through the TCL website redemption i received a $200 Coles Myer Gift voucher which effectively brought the piece down to $1334. I have seen it cheaper then the retail price lately both online and in JBHIFI but as it stands the tv is a bargain for the price. I have had Samsung plasmas and lcds as well as alot of other brands too. The picture quality even going from the 3 year old Hisense 4k to this one was night and day difference. It also has a razor thin bezel and frame and has louder speakers then the hisense did. Also games and 4k as well as 1080p streams and Blurays look fantastic on it. But normal sd stuff not so much.

But in the end best to go check out one in the shops before deciding for yourself if its ideal. Hope this helps you somewhat.

    • Thanks buddy. Bit the bullet and got myself the 75C4US. The entire family loves it. The picture quality is awesome. Finally replaced my ancient LG plasma (which served me well for the last 9 yrs). But the good part is that gone along with the old TV is my PVR ( which I used to view and record free to air tv shows) as well as an old laptop to access Foxtel now to watch cricket. Works like a charm!

      • No problems mate. Yeah I remember having the same feeling 3 years ago when I got rid of my Samsung plasma for the Hisense 4k TV. But the TCL is a great value for money budget option even to the Hisense. Good luck with it.

  • I brought the 74C4US 3 weeks ago and have the same problem with the quick start feature, does not work. Waiting on TCL to come look it.

    • Don't bother mate. They have no solution to the instant on problem. If they did they would have included it in the latest Oreo firmware. I have loaded this to my tv and yes, you guessed it, instant on still doesn't work.

    • I enabled the quick start feature yesterday and it indeed works like a charm on mine. Tv comes on in like a second or two rather then the 40 plus seconds before. It's heaps better. But yeah I think it's a hit and miss situation atm as to which models work with this and which don't seem too.

  • Quick update. One wk post purchase. Works like a charm. Gr8 pic quality. Instant start works fine for me.love the fact everything is on one remote. VALUE FOR MONEY!
