[Price Error] Xiaomi Mi Box Official International Version US $29 (~AU $41.53) @ GeekBuying

Moved to Forum: Original Link

UPDATE: There has been a price error and orders are currently not being honoured

I think this is a cracking deal, GeekBuying currently have a $30 USD off coupon for all TV's and Mini PC's which when applied to this takes $42.96 off. No idea what plug it comes with.

My order summary:

Subtotal: AU$ 84.49
Shipping Cost: AU$ 0.00
Coupon Discount: -AU$ 42.96
Total: AU$ 41.53

(Probably cheaper if paid in USD)

It runs on the latest Android TV 8.0 Oreo which is easy to use, supports voice controls and Google CastTM. Catch your favorite TV shows, play games, watch the news or switch to radio. Mi Box also recommends videos based on your personal Youtube and Google Play preferences!

A high performance of Quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU can play a wide range of games.

Bluetooth voice remote control

Just speak into the remote control and Mi box will search for what you want.

Everything pops with HDR

HDR is quickly making its way to TV, first to set-top boxes with Mi Box. Watch videos in detail like never before with select HDR content. Witness scenes and characters come to life in vivid contrast, color, and clarity.

HDMi 2.0a

HDMI2.0a is a faster way to send video and audio output to your TV. With up to 18Gbps speeds, it significantly improves picture and sound quality, making Mi Box perfect for watching 4K Ultra HD and HDR video content.

DTS and Dolby surround sound

Dolby DTS certified, the Mi Box supports both Dolby Digital Plus and DTS multichannel HD audio encoding. The result is smoother, dynamic, immersive and more realistic stereo surround sound during ultra HD Blu-ray video playback.

Apps for the big screen

Everything looks better on the big screen, including shows from YouTube, Sling TV, Netflix, Vudu, FandangoNOW and more. Stream, play and be entertained for hours with access to hit shows, blockbusters, radio stations and viral videos.

Super smooth streaming, 60fps 4K decoding

A powerful video decoder is like having a high performance processor. Mi Box can handle up to 60 frames per second - that's double what other set-top boxes can do. It's an advantage you'll notice naturally when you watch NBA live or play a racing game.

  • Is this the latest iteration of mi box?

    • +1

AFAIK the Mi Box 4 has only released the Chinese version which doesn't support Android TV or Google Play, the international version hasn't released yet but some sites have it for pre-order or at least have in stock notifications for it.

      • so this is model 3 then?

      • +1

There is only one model of Mi Box intended for sale outside of China, and while it uses the same hardware as the Mi Box 3 and 4, it's just called the Mi Box (or the International model).

This International model is about to get a refresh on the remote, but will otherwise hold at least until there's a need for a HDMI 2.1 solution with proper 4k120hz support.

        • You seem to know about the Mi Box. I have been wondering what the port at the bottom of the current intentional Mi Box remote is for. I looked around a bit online but couldn't get an answer.

        • +1

          @Mujaji:

Pretty sure that's just to tie a wrist strap thing on?

And the hole at the top is the microphone

        • @Mujaji: the hole at the bottom goes directly into the battery compartment, so the answer is nothing.

    • Yes.

  • Damn, just bought off Gearbest earlier today.

  • That's an awesome find!

  • +5

Not sure why I bought one, but for that price I can't refuse…

  • I have a chromecast and the chinese version without cast support. Thinking of buying this just to combine the two devices as it is so cheap haha.

  • No idea what plug it comes with.

I believe the default plug for the International Version is an EU Plug.

  • +1

    Expired already! :'(

  • And here I was asking for a good deal last week and getting nothing. Excellent find! Might pick one up for myself even :P

    • Coupon was pulled. Grabbed a couple for the family members.

Limit was 2 per account, any extra orders went to failed payment processing for me.

      • +4

Nah it has a limit on how many times it can be used. I'll check if it gets a daily refresh ;)

        • +2

That would be great if you could check for the daily refresh, though I suspect it was pulled or had a hard limit per account.

Even orders I had processed and ready to pay are failing on the coupon applied one.

          Unfortunately, your payment was unsuccessful.
          Order No.: 4xxxxxx1
          Amount: AU$ 41.53
          Payment methods: CreditCard
          Payment status: Unpaid

          Something went wrong.

Please try to place the order again or go to ‘My Orders’ to change the mode of payment.

        • @MorriJ: It got pulled early this morning. The coupon itself is active again but now only applicable to specific items.

I suspect someone got themselves into a lot of trouble :P

        • @Clear: Do you know if they are going to honour those who purchased?

        • @Clear: Why? What's wrong with selling WELL under cost?

        • @AngryAlfred: apparently they won't honor it. Meh done with geekbuying of late, unreliable.

  • +1

Wtf expired already? Says 114 pieces left?

    • +1

      Coupon was pulled it seems.

  • Thanks OP. Great deal. Awesome tv box.

  • +2

What a gimmick, or stick with the deal or don't even release it.

    • Just curious but how do you rank outdated on an android box?

        • +3

I’ve got two and have had no issues.

        • how good is the voda one?

    • Mi Box is android TV 8 and Vodafone TV is 7, so how is that outdated?

  • just added to cart and then it is expired :(

  • Yep didn’t last long

  • ugh in the time it took to make an account, it was over :(

  • Couldn't resist at this price so finally jumped on the Mi Box bandwagon, thanks OP 👍

  • +1

    Damn! Missed it.

  • +2

Already have a smart tv. What extra features does this give?

    • One that comes to mind is , my TV doesn't have audio pass-through so i could use this for my 5.1 TV and movie files. Having said that my Mi-Box sits in the cupboard and i use a ROKU for that purpose.
Also i have come across a few files that my TV wouldn't play for unexplained reasons

      • Are Roku still around?

        • Yeah they are still around but they seem to be going away from the box in favour of USB stick

      • This is probably a stupid question but would my husband be able to stream NBA games from it? My understanding is you can with fetch tv. Would this be an alternative?

        • +2

Android TV official NBA app has issues on these boxes, the audio sync loses time.
Can use 'nba streams' via kodi, but obvious suspect legality means these arent always available

I use NBA app on my phone to chromecast to mi box with great success, will need NBA league pass though

        • @damop:
I tried a number of options for NBA league pass (laptop/ps4+vpn/roku) and found phone + chromecast to be the best/easiest option (didn't try mi box, I suspect it would be better again)

    • If you have a sony android TV its very similar

  • damn, missed it

  • Thanks OP..managed to get my payment processed and confirmed.. I noticed that they're still processing my 30 July order for the Mi box mini keyboard. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/393993 Will have to get onto them..

  • +1

that is a cracking load of kit.

  • Great deal. Sorry I missed it :/

    • +9

It's ok, you're forgiven. Just try harder next time ok? :)

  • Anyone managed to get Optus Sport on this?

    • My free optus sport ran out last night, sad times

    • You can cast it mate

      • Ya, I know, prefer natively…

        • I dont think there s optus sport app for android tv yet, unfortunately

        • @clgt: You can run the mobile app; terrible resolutions though.

  • i bought this in 2016 and it has served me well since then. However it's started to be a bit buggy recently since update to Android 8.0. Youtube keeps hanging up now, which i think is partly down to the annoying youtube adds which interrupt any viewing.

Some of the audio has been going out of sync for me too, and i have to pause and play the video to get it back in line. I may upgrade to a shield soon.

    • youtube red fixes that

I havent seen the sync issue yet, I play kodi, netflix with no issues

    • just wondering why would you choose shielf over chromecast (chromecast will solve adds on youtube as well)?

      • Shield has chromecast and is best android box out there by a long distance. Anything you throw at it, will be played without issues. You can also stream games to it, or play from cloud based gaming services. Nothing else compares to it.

    The nerves on them…

    • I'll throw up a review for them. I've stopped sourcing through Geekbuying as they are now sitting on 3 refunds and not processing them.

  • Price errors happen all the time on OzBargain. It's unfortunate but at least they've contacted you and given you options. Heaps better than a lot of other retailers who have dragged everyone along in the past (OW for example).
