Purchasing from an Overseas Company Not Charging GST, Any Problem?

Hi Guys:

I am looking forward to purchasing some ice hockey gears from an overseas company.

I can save about $320 on the price if I purchased it from overseas compares to here.

At the moment the company doesn’t charge GST on sales.

Total item costs are around $860 including shipping.

Would I be charged GST when it arrives in the country?

Anyone bought anything from overseas with company not currently charging GST and had any problems?

Thanks many

    https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/trav/impo/buyi says

For goods with a value of AUD1000 or less, there are no duties, taxes or charges to pay at the border. From 1 July 2018, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) may apply to low value goods when imported from overseas by consumers in Australia. However, the GST will be charged at the point of sale and not at the border.

So, the answer is no if I am not mistaken.

    The problem is

    you are lucky….

    Enjoy!

  • Some overseas companies; those with sales to Australia in excess of $A75.000 WILL ADD the 10% GST to the purchase price, regardless of whether over or under $A1,000 in value.
With those companies, if you supply and ABN that is registered for GST then they will not charge.
Best you ask them the question.
