If their base pay is below minimum wage then they probably need ozbargain more than most people.

This has been advertised at 1179 for the last week or so in the flight centre windows. Interested to see if anyone's quote is closer to that and they have misleadingly put a sub 1k price to lure people in. However still a good price at that price.
Every single fare that gets advertised is available at time of advertisement. I can think of only one that wasn't (due to carriers changing sharing agreements effective immediately). If you give the consultant the deal number found on the ad, they should be able to bring up the rules and even examples.
With that said, this deal was easy this morning, and hard to find availability tonight.
Last time there was an advertised sale I asked for ANY dates for the advertised price. I wasn't even fussy. And the quote came back $200 higher, even after me saying I will fly on whatever date for the advertised price. Bunch of false advertisers. Class action needs to be done.
Requires you to call and sit through up-sell hell. Very archaic system overall.
If you want to deal with a real travel agent who specialises in round the world travel and offers actual good customer service, I can recommend RoundAbout Travel. My parents used them last year, and they were super professional and far better than the ~ 5 physical stores we went to prior to that.
Our hesitation was that they were in Adelaide (we're in Brisbane) but their service was fantastic and very responsive to any queries. They also came very close to matching the advertised minimum price and made a bunch of accommodations to make my parents' trip work.
What is the fare price for an infant under 2?
I requested a quote ex Adelaide, came back $1013 each. Polite service too. Up sell was offered but I said no thanks, no problem. Maybe just depends on the staff member.

Sorry OP, Flight Centre are not to be trusted. One would be very lucky to get this price. It's definitely going to cost more.

Is the "United Kingdom Air Passenger Duty APD (GB)" of about $140 included in the $999 fare? If not, the $999 fare would not be possible!
There is a search engine http://matrix.itasoftware.com that queries the same data sources the travel agents use.
As example, searching for Virgin Atlantic SYD - LHR return with trip duration of between 0 to 7 days, for May 2019. The cheapest fare is to depart 21/5/2018 and return on the same day, due to lower airport taxes. Fare Class O (Fare Basis OLQP0AMN)
A travel agent can help you play around with stop over locations and durations in HKG and LAX, but I think you are pretty much guaranteed to come to a fare a few hundred higher.
I have just sent off a quote for $3996 for 4 passengers.
This is not the correct fare basis, nor the correct governing carrier (it's VA) - we are also not limited to that fare class.
The offer is real but the dates are restricted. The offer is also due to end today.
The FC consultant was able to book a SYD to HKG VA flight for me after VA came through with extra seats.
She was also able to book a VS flight from HKG to LHR VS flight for me.
The deal breaker for me was that she could only book the LHR to LAX VS flight for me after only a two day stopover in London.
Yes, apparently more tickets were released this afternoon for this FC only deal.
Lucky enough to get 4 tickets @999 ea. from OzJD, I pm'ed OzJD yesterday, he found tickets and called me on 6:30pm at his overtime, went through the payment then holiday booked!!! finally got a FC bargain…lol
Agree with that we did minimal in Hong Kong and America and the bulk of the time in switzerland and France, travelled across on Eurostar. Of course Brexit might make it more interesting soon.
