pure profit for flight centre - price protection is given in flight centre gift cards is it not

        • Am I able to "gift" (ahem sell) this voucher, or does the new booking need to be in my name too?

        • +1

a voucher for future price gouging, if not today.

        • @dennis.s.s: I've never had this question to be honest. I imagine it would be at the discretion of the team leader of each individual store, but can't see it being an issue.

      • +4

Well they need to afford their cocaine-fueled compulsory staff parties somehow

      • I bet the travel insurance payout will be as well!

    • +12

      Avoid at all costs.

    • +8

$600 minimum spend on the accommodation credit too :(

    • +19

Very dubious at best, so many terms which you can read here - "If the airfare drops before you fly, you'll get the difference back*" https://www.flightcentre.com.au/captains-package
I suggest that your marketing team reads the definition of "back" - https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/back , as providing a 12 month expiry gift voucher is not anywhere near returning me "back" to my previous state…

    • +3

Price drop protection is useless on this deal.

    • +7

If this is such a good deal, why the hell would I spend 10% of the fare price on price drop protection?

    • +1

      LOL -
Flight Centre ordered to pay $12.5 million in penalties:

  • +1

That looks to be a very attractive deal to me. Wish I had the time / money.

    • -7

It is! I personally paid a lot more for this deal a little while ago :-(

  • Any $999 sample route?

    • -1

Sydney - Hong Kong - London - Los Angeles - Sydney

      • Sorry, I mean in particular date. We are 3 adult 1 kid, happy to purchase right now, we are in Mel, you can PM me if you want.

        • +7

Click on the link. Select your city, and then you can fill in the info on the screen.

        • +4

          @smigglejiggle:
          and get spammed …

        • @Willy Orwontee: True. Best to go instore I guess.

        • +5

@smigglejiggle: I tried this way before, even it advertised $1199 or $999 or whatever advertisement price, my local FC called me and quoted much higher price.

        • +11

@jassssone: yup. Every time I've ever gone into a FC store the quoted price has always been higher than the advertised special on the door.

        • +2

I did this deal last year and it was only $60 on top of the advertised price for the dates I wanted.

Still by far the best way to do a trip to London.

Also no spam from FC, just someone who helped me get the right layover lengths.

    Departing 01 May 2018 - 06 June 2019

Can you tell me how to depart on the 4th July 2018 please :/ ?

    • +10

      You can't for this price.

    • Fill in the website so they can look at options and call you back.

  • +53

Requires contact details and they will call you back. Neg'd because example dates, destination and price is unavailable.

    • How do you know?

      • +3

        How do I know what?

        • -1

          That

example dates, destination and price is unavailable.

        • +11

          @spaceflight:

This will be difficult to answer without sounding like a complete jackass.

What I did was clicked the link and tried to find an itinerary with dates at each city and price. I couldn't find one. They want you to register (which I did with fake details as I suspected it was a scam to upsell) and there's still no dates or duration at each destination. Only a "from $999" statement and "call us or have us call you" avoidance technique.

Did I miss something obvious? I don't know how else to interpret your replies.

  • +1

Can you do this flight in the opposite direction? ie. Hong Kong on the return route?

    • Absolutely!

  • +23

Hate deals presented like this from FC. Not enough info in the body of the deal, then you gotta give them your number to get called and bombarded with too much info at once so you can't process it all. Just spell it out, ya bastards.

    • -6

What would you like to know?

      • +6

"Can I actually book this without buying other high-margin products at the same time such as insurance, car-hire, jetboating, etc etc"

        • You can book these without purchasing anything else, yes.

Last one I did came to a total of $1998 for 2 pax.

        • @OzJD: Do you charge ticketing fee per person or per flight?

        • @igorinich: As above, a total of $1998, inclusive of any fees and taxes.

  • +20

Let me guess, as it says 'from $999' my ACTUAL quote will probably end up being higher? Also why can't I see a sample itinerary, dates, airlines etc. like you can with other deals.

    • and then an $x booking fee and $x credit card fee :)

      • just dont reschedule, unless you like pain.

        • +1

Oh god I once wanted to change a flight back a few days and QF and FC combined wanted around $500 in fees (not including the fare difference too). Ugh.

  • +18

Needs an exact price with dates, not this 'from' bullsh*t.

  • +2
    • I love how this story comes out at the exact time that an EBA is being negotiated with a union.

  • +6

I just appreciate OP replying to comments..

  • +4

    Per OP: Departing 01 May 2018 - 06 June 2019

    Per FC site: Departing 01 May 2019 - 06 June 2019

  • +12

I don't want to Neg. OP. but I do want to neg FC as this type of sales tactic is unethical and I would happily pay a higher rate to avoid them at all costs in the hopes they go under sooner rather than later caveat emptor and all that. Also curious how the store rep. suddenly goes quiet when the real questions roll in.

    • +7

This Rep is also dealing with customers in store :-)

      • +1

Which seems a far worse method as stated above also

    • +3

      I tend to agree.
Not just because I am not a fan of Flight Centre - but because the deal is not obtainable without dealing with FC consultants and getting the run-around.
If the deal was actually readily available from their website and not just from dealing with a consultant I would revoke my neg.

      • You may not be aware however the reason these fares aren't available through other OTAs is because it is a manually priced fare where you have to build the PNR with specific booking classes over specific dates (decided by AIRLINE not FC) then saved and you then MANUALLY override the ticketing carrier with a forced fare command.

So unfortunately online can't do that and thus the only way to quote or book is to deal with a human who can do this for you.

        Have a lovely day.

  • +1

Could you fix up the departure date please? 2019 not 2018.

  • +1

@OP, kindly refer to the site and copy paste from there as it’s from May 2019 not 2018.

I'm a consultant at Flight Centre, happy to answer any general questions you may have just reply to this or PM me if you would like a quote.

    • Is there anyway to skip the USA leg, and do Canada/Mexico instead, being brown i really dont want the hassle of the USA, especially LAX.

      • -1

Unfortunately the special fare is only valid on the cities listed above Hong Kong, London and LA. You could pay a more expensive fare to get those included, or you could book this fare and just buy an internal flight to Canada or Mexico.

      • +1

My all white family with two toddlers were treated like s%&t at LAX, bunch of aholes. I cannot imagine how painful it is for anyone with darker skin and/or a beard.

        • +12

Everyone being treated like shit sounds like equality to me.

        • +1

I’m black with a beard and grew up in watts county and south central. I was never treat badly. I carried a gun from 14 though

    • Perhaps you could let us know if this price is obtainable, and give an example, or just a scam? As in bait and switch?

      • Hi Abacus,

Definitely there is availability on this special, it's always easier to be flexible but for example I have just put this itinerary together:

        $999.00

        21May SYD - HKG VA83
        22May HKG - LON VS207
        30May LON - LAX VS7
        15Jun LAX - SYD VA2

The above is just an example, there are plenty of combinations and if you are flexible with dates I'm sure we can get you the advertised price.

        • +1

I know you are offering an example, but 24hrs only in HKG?

        • @dtpearson:

          Hi Dtpearson,

Like you mentioned it's just an example, you can stay in Hong Kong as long as you like with no additional charge in the fare. The taxes may be higher for stopovers which is where the 'from' idea comes in.

    • Hi,

Just wondering if we have the choice regarding how long the break is between flights? Ie could you do Melbourne to HK for 3 days, HK to London for 3 weeks, London to LA for 4 days, LA to Melb?

      Thank you in advance!

      • +2

        Hi Tim,

Definitely you can choose how long your stops are. If you'd like a quote feel free to contact your local Flight Centre or I can provide you a quote whichever is easier for you. Sale is only until tomorrow.

    • Do you charge booking or ticketing fee at all?

      • Silence

  • +7

This is a clear bait and switch by FC - I tried this last time and there's literally no way you can end up with the advertised price as the final actual price you pay.

    • Had a group of 9 people from Melbourne pay a grand total of $8982 to have NINE PEOPLE GO AROUND THE WORLD WITH VA.

  • Want a good service contact roundabout travel in Adelaide, they specialise in these type of fares.

  • +19

You've come to the wrong neighbourhood spouting "from" prices.

  • +8

As mentioned by a few others this is a classic FC scam - not a deal at all, you'll never get the price that is being quoted. Have a look at this if you're not already aware of how this mob operates
    http://www.abc.net.au/7.30/flight-centre-accused-of-%E2%80%9…

  • +3

Is there anyway to skip the USA leg, and do Canada/Mexico instead, being brown i really dont want the hassle of the USA, especially LAX.

    • I’d say no because it’s a Virgin offer. VA/VS Have only just started cofesharing the LAX/HKG hubs.

  • +4

From what i've read above and after viewing the 7.30 Report posted here, I have also no doubt that this company is Unethical and should not be supported at all by purchasing any flights from them.

Stan United and make these people take note that we won't be fooled and ripped off by their sneaky deals (any more)!

Ps. No disrespect to the OP

  • +3

Another scheme to real you in and markup prices for fares that in reality don't exist

    • It's 'reel'.

And the OP has given several examples of flight combos that achieve the advertised price.

      • For reels ?

… And while I'm on my high horse, can we call this what it is.
A return airfare to London, with an alternative path.

'The World' consists of more cities than London, Los Angeles and Hong Kong. The fact that this is locked to those cities only should exclude it from being called a 'Round the World' airfare!

Add in, that the advertised price is only available from Melbourne, with almost impossible to claim dates. And unless the OP can show that there are more than 10 dates available at this price, I think these post should be excluded from Ozbargain (as it is purely a bait-and-switch campaign).

        TL;DR:

        1. Call it a $999 Return to London.
        2. List the departure cities the price is valid for.
        3. Show more than 10 dates the price is available for.

        … Or advertise elsewhere!

        • Have already had 15 customers (from return customers originally inquired through Oz Bargain) book $999.00.

It is an airfare from Brisbane too and as long as we have T or O class we can book it at the $999 fare level FYI :)

          xox

    • That's a very cool deal if dates and cities work for you.

Jose, do you have to depart from the same cities you fly in to?

      • If you mean domestic cities, you can start in Brisbane and finish in Melbourne.

    • +3

      Dupe.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/401351

Works great when you pretend to be from a different company, but really they're just a FC brand and you have a FC email :)

    • "….Virgin Round The World"

Just opened this up for the expected comments, dissapointed.

    • We did these as business class last year for $3400 each. Yes it is restrictive of what ports you can go to but it is, basically, round the world through several countries. (unless this has changed since last time and you can't actually spend time at each location for the current prices).

      • Wow did you end up getting Platinum from that deal?

        • +1

The sad part is we only got to Silver from that trip.

We got sufficient status credits for Gold but because two of the sectors were on Virgin Atlantic codes, rather than Virgin Australia codes; those "sectors" did not count towards the minimum of 4; we needed to do two more sectors to get to gold. Since then my man's organisation has flown him business class to America so he got enough status credits/sectors to get to Platinum. We are flying to Perth tomorrow and that will give me enough sectors for me to get to Gold. Arghhh - the things we do to get lounge access for the next 12 months :) We will be flying economy back from Paris to Melbourne in July next year and, i understand, given we will have gold virgin at that stage we should be able to get to the lounges and priority checkin with Ethiad flying on Virgin points. Fingers crossed :)

The trip itself was fantastic - Virgin business class was great and the PJs we got have worked really well for the cold Melbourne winter we had this year.

        • @try2bhelpful:

I wouldn't pay $5 for 'lounge' access. YMMV LOL.

        • @tightwad: man I would. Got up at 4:30 this morning for a flight from Melbourne to Perth. Got to the airport, had a shower in the lounge, had some bacon and eggs, pancakes, toastie and juice. Got on the plane, food was inedible but I really didn’t care. The priority check in was great too, watched the great unwashed struggle with the queues whilst we sailed past then onto the comfort and quiet of the lounge. I like my mileage.

    • I wish i can go , it is june which is summer , and you can go from london all over Europe with Ryan air . Make sure to make London where you stop long because Europe is nearby.
