Ahhhh Seiko Cocktail Time's are lovely.

  • I have the newer version of this watch (with the power reserve and date at the bottom), the watch is lovely overall and this particular model looks more clean/classy compared to the one I'm wearing, take note that the watch is quite heavy and bulky though

    • +5

The version with the power reserve indicator (SSA343) is 14.5 mm thick. The version without (SRPB43) is only 11.8 mm thick, so should be a fair bit slimmer than the watch you're talking about. (I also believe that the SSA343 and SRPB43 both came out at the same time - one is not "newer" than the other. You may be confusing the SRPB43 with its very similar predecessor, the SARB065).

See here for a good summary of the various Cocktail Time iterations.

For what it's worth - I think this is a great deal on the SRPB43, and have picked one up. Thanks OP!

      • Ah yes it seems I didn't look at the picture clearly. The only thing I remembered different from the newer and older one was the presage line, I actually didn't know the one without the power reserve indicator was slimmer. Thanks for the clarification

  • Great looking watch at a great price. Using old qantas points for this so a real bargain.

Press F to pay respects to the disconuation of the Sarb035

    • +2

They'll probably bring it back in 3 years when they realize they screwed up, like the Monster

      …And they'll add a cyclops.

    • +1

And the original SARB065 Cocktail Time with the 6R15 movement!

      • Not a fan of the 6R15 movement honestly. It gets so noisy but there has to be trade offs at a sub-$500 price tag.

        • What's noisey about it? The actual ticking of the movement? I'm looking at a few different watches with this movement so I'm interested.

        • @bleeder: Yes, the movement is very loud. The SARB may pay homage to the Oyster Perpetual but that's its biggest trade off.

    • They killed off the SARB033 as well didn't they? Lucky I got mine a few years ago.

      • Yep, SARB033, SARB035 and Alpinist all discontinued

  • Thanks OP, you have great taste in watches. I am very happy with my SARB065 original Cocktail Time :)

    • +1

Thanks russbuss - the SARB065 is one sexy number too - and was what got me interested in the automatic watch world too :)

  • How do you guys get those qantas points? Does everyone here have FF credit cards?

    • +1

You can also earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points through Woolworths Rewards Card.

  • Thanks bought one

  • That's an insane price for those watches, even with the points. I thought I did really well getting my SRPB43J for $400 when it came out. Great looking watches for the price though.

  • Anyone know if it comes with tax invoice for trs? Does tax invoice have to be in same name as person leaving?

    • Yes and yes (I think) 😃

With one Clarification: When I’ve used trs I’ve had to show the receipt, my passport and the item. I assumed that they were checking the name on the passport to the receipt, but that said, they could have just been checking that I was travelling, and not working at one of the shops in the departure terminal.

      • Thanks. Do you know how long it takes to arrive?

        • Mine is showing delivery expected 18 Sept but I reckon it may be sooner as it is sitting in the toll depot in Sydney.

        • +3

Update: Mine was delivered this morning.

        • @thedragon:
Did you order yours Sunday night?

How do you track your order? I've only received the email saying they've received my order on late Sunday night.

          Thanks.

          Edit: item status: processing

        • @Iridescent:
Hi there. I placed my order on Sunday night too.

I got an immediate order confirmation. And then yesterday I got another email saying the the order was being delivered, with a tracking number that linked to the Toll website.

Maybe follow the “my account” link in the order confirmation email and see if it contains delivery details. Mine did.

          Good luck!

        • @thedragon:
Thanks for the reply! I just got an email this evening with the Toll tracking. Hopefully it arrives tomorrow :)

  • Thank goodness you didn’t post one with a SS bracelet, or my wife and I would have had a fight on our hands :S

  • This is a beautiful watch at a bargain price. Great deal.

  • Nice - thanks, OP. Had 9000 FF points from an LA trip earlier in the year I would have just not used, and now for under $200 I have a nice Seiko Cocktail. Lovely.

  • Dont have Qantas points myself. Can you pay out all cash? Still good price?

    Blue = $239
    Rose = $313

    Crap, need 2000 pts min

    • +2

On Qantas Wines you can buy wines which come with bonus points up to 10k or 15k :)

  • Is the SRPB43J the same as the SRPB43?

    • J is just made in Japan, otherwise it's probably made in Malaysia etc (Though quite possibly from imported Japanese parts)

I've never seen much proof of a quality difference.

      • Ah ok. I was afraid it was a slightly different colour. Cheers

  • Insanely good price, bought!
Normally roughly $500 for this model grey or local stock (SRBP43 or SARY075)
    or
Roughly $550-600 for the SARB065 (the original) grey stock

  • best place to buy watch straps ?

    • Aliexpress

  • Can anyone sell me 1800 points? Not sure if this is possible, I only have 200 qff points, and would pay $25 for 1800 points to get this deal

    • +3

"you can transfer points to family members who are also qantas frequent flyer members"

How have you been lately cousin fretwekk, been a long time

    • You can top them up via Qantas when redeeming rewards, but it's usually $78 for 2000 points:
      https://www.finder.com.au/how-to-buy-qantas-frequent-flyer-p…

So $25 would be a good buy if you could convince someone to do it, then get it through the Qantas system.

A question for the hobbyists here. Is the Seiko Alpinist a good watch?

    • Yes. Personally not keen on the green, but yes, it is a great watch.

    • +1

Yes it’s an iconic model and hard to find now. You often see it above retail, and prices even on the secondary market are high.

  • Anyone willing to sell me 1000 points?? Just curious if that's even possible

    • Given the risks relating to selling points and the extremely small number you are seeking, I think you will struggle. You would be better off asking someone to order this for you and then paying them a lump sum that allows for the value of the points and their time/risk.

  • Both watches are very nice quality and in my opinion punch well above their weight. If a high end brand was on the same watches you would accept they were the maker. The SRPB46J is a real stunner, so I succumbed.

  • which one do i buy? my heart says SRPB43J but my ozb side is saying SRPB46J is better value!

    • +4

      Both?

    • +1

I got the 43 purely because I think it's more versatile. You can't go wrong with either though

  • +1

Damn you OP, just sent back a damaged Blue Moon. Assumed I'd saved money.

  • Thanks for sharing.

  • Beautiful piece. It's a shame they don't make the SARB021 anymore. Still kicking myself for not getting one when it was available.

    • Accuracy - +45 to -35 seconds per day

    Doesn't sound too accurate!

    • +2

Normal for a mechanical watch, and accuracy is not really the reason to buy them

    • This is the extreme, which is quoted on all Seiko watches. In reality, they are much more accurate. My Seiko Sarb031 for example is accurate to -3s/day. And its probably some 8 years old without a service.

  • +1

Reckon these are too flashy for the office? I kind of feel like they are. I want one, but it's a waste of a money if I just use it to wear to a wedding every few years.. That said, I got rid of my rewards card and have 4000 points spare…

    • You still have 4000 points on it?

      • +1

Yeah just used up most of them on some flights last month, now have 4000 left

        • Mate can I be your cousin? Willing to give you anything valued 30 AUD :3

        • I JUST NEED 2000 points

    • You could change strap to dress it down a bit.

The high domed crystal would be my concern wearing this watch. Crystal is not sapphire, so would have some concerns about scratching it.

      • Good point, I'm pretty rough (clumsy?) with my watches, even just wearing it to work I'll probably scratch it up. I haven't scratched my SKX crystal yet but that doesn't have the high dome… I've scratched the shit out of my strapcode bracelet in a number of months though.

  • Bought the brown one - thanks OP!

    • +1

It's arrived and a great looking watch - thanks again OP and please post any offers like this in future - much appreciated.

  • Bought one, awesome deal… can dress properly when wearing black tie now

  • Anyone got 2000 pts to sell to me? But i have no idea how much it's worth

  • Oh I wish they had the blue Starlight model. That's my dream Presage. I'll pull the trigger instantly on that at a good price

    • The blue "Starlight" cocktail time Presage watch is a limited edition model. Only a few thousand made worldwide.

      • That's very sad. It has such a beautiful blue dial design. Love at first sight for me

  • Beautiful watches, wish I had some Qantas points to throw at it. Would like something to rotate with the SARX027 I'm wearing as a daily.

  • Bought. Thanks. Ridiculously cheap price for this watch.

  • Pulled the trigger, for SRPB46J. Thanks OP!

    SRPB43J out of stock now.

  • Anyone willing to sell me their 43J for $300 C:

  • thanks OP, been eyeing on this deal for past few days and finally pulled trigger yesterday on 43J. yay!
can anyone recommend replacement band for this watch?

  • +6

Got the ice blue (SRPB43J) delivered today.

    Exquisite!

Had my eye on the original Cocktail Time (SARB065) for years, but could never justify at full price. This one is an incredible bargain (I paid just under $200 with approx. 9000 QFF points).

The font and size of "Presage Automatic" on this one is unobtrusive, not detracting from overall visual impact at all.

Think this one actually gains from being thinner and having the new crown, compared to original, especially in the formal setting.

Clasp band is nicely refined, just a bit conflicted on it's shininess. However, would work very well in any formal setting, especially if you've gone for the full patent black shoes with your dinner suit or tux :-).

Would also work very well with either a black or dark brown plain or patterned leather band, and given the minimalist design, probably a blank canvas for other bands if you want to tone the formality down. The face will still be immediately noticed and commented upon, even though presents itself in the most understated way.

I'm a big fan of great value automatic watches and this is one of the best buys I've made in some time.

If wavering at all, my recommendation - just do it - you won't be disappointed.

    • You're a bad influence! Yeah I was thinking the same thing about the band, I'm already worried the watch itself is a bit too flashy for the office, might have to purchase a more subtle band…

    • Yeah, first reaction out of the box was "wow, it's gorgeous". They're a very pretty thing. I wasn't sure of the band but having had it for a week or so it seems to suit the slightly 'formal' feel of the watch.

  • Damnit this is still here tempting me :(

    • +1

No longer available (the SRPB43J). I normally have a sense of relief when I miss out on a splurge, I'm kind of regretting this one though…

  • Brown one is now also out of stock.
