Cheap (less than $500) Pre-Built Desktop Computer. Any at All.

Give me a link (computer store website, eBay link, etc), and I'll buy it. Probably. I am not fussed about what I get.

A few small requirements though:

1) Pre-built. If necessary, I will also hand in my OzBargain licence and pay the labour fee.
2) A SSD hard drive is preferred but not fussed about size.
3) Don't care about what CPU, motherboard, RAM, or graphics card it is. Any will be fine.
4) Monitor not necessary.
5) If possible, a quieter computer would be nice.

Apparently there might be a 10% site wide tomorrow on eBay so if you got any decent value eBay listings, I'll keep a watch on them.

For reference, the hard drive I am currently using has a "Power On Count" of nearly 4000 times and a "Power On Hours" value of nearly 30000. It should have died a long time ago. Such a pitiful thing, being forced by me to slave away this long.

For that budget, I'd go for a refurbished dell that goes on sale frequently. Just get one with a ssd.

    Here is an example.

    • Maybe I'll grab this? It's not a big deal but I would prefer an Intel to an AMD.

  • If you want to make it yourself, you can have something better:

    There you go: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/qJdVmq

Add an SSD and you are good to go.

You can also swap the CPU for something better if you wish.

  • Techfast on ebay has unreserved auctions for their Ryzen 3 systems. $473 delivered Buy it now or there is an auction with seven hours left that is at $240. They are beginner "e-sports" systems, so have things like an ssd, 8gb ram, a 500w power supply etc.

Techfast Ryzen 3 eBay Buy it now

    • Auction result was $320 delivered or $290 with the coupon that was active.

    • Seems decent, I may go for this one once I get an eBay coupon.

They have a selection of auctions available: https://www.ebay.com.au/str/Tech-Fast-Australia?LH_Auction=1…

      Which should I go for?

      • Depends on your requirements. The Ryzen 3 auction ending in two days is $440 atm and maybe just under $400 for one the ending in four days. A prebuilt optiplex or other system will be cheaper, but not as upgradeable. Amd has said they will support this chipset till 2020, so you could just swap cpus if you wanted to upgrade in a few years. Or support better video cards if you game at all.

  • This thread causes me pain.

    Think of the money!!!

All jokes aside, Dell's refurb site is apparently pretty good (think someone linked it earlier). For the sake of not being completely screwed,go refurb

  • Or should I pick my own parts from MSY? http://www.msy.com.au/SYSTEMS/INTELAMD-UpgradeValue.pdf

So many choices. I can't choose. Choose for me OzBargain.

Mate, if you’re in Sydney I have a few Lenovo S500 SFF units you can have … for FREE. Save the money and get yourself something nice.

    Pickup from the CBD

    • Fraid I'm in Melbourne. Maybe a lucky Sydneysider Ozbargainer can grab it off ya.

    • Are you still looking to offload those S500's? I am interested. Your private message is turned off. Please contact me via my PM (click my username and start a conversation).

  • Bit the bullet and bought a Dell Optiplex 9020: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/402974

Hope I don't regret it, and even if do, not an expensive mistake.
