  • Just wondering, does fast charging dependent on both the charge and the cable?

    • +1

Yes, all 3 components (wall charger, cable and device) will determine how fast charge is transferred. Annoyingly, there are a lot of different charging standards out there, making things more confusing.

From memory, HTC and Pixel/Nexus devices use the standard Type C charging protocol and use standard Type C cables.

Samsung and LG use Qualcomm's QuickCharge protocol, which can theoretically charge a little faster, using Type C port on the phone but Type A on the charger.

Oppo and OnePlus use VOOC charging, which is faster than all of them, and also uses Type A to Type C charging. It also requires a special VOOC cable.

And of course Apple uses standard Type A charging via a Lightning port.

I'm hoping that all of these standards will die and the Type C PD charger will become the industry standard, as it has for most laptops.

      • Hi klaw81, so with this charger, the 15W port will be using Type C to Type C cable for charging? and the 12W port will use regular USB to Type C/Lightning cables?

        Thanks very much

      • Apple has too much pride to get rid of Lightning though. They make a lot of money off proprietary tech.

I'd probably go for this at 1/3 the price with qc3 compatibility.

    • ^THIS. Buy from BangGood to also get cashback.

That's not quite the direct equivalent, since it doesn't have a proper Type C output.

      This one is closer: https://www.banggood.com/BlitzWolf-BW-S11-30W-Type-C-PDQC3_0…

But I guess it depends on whether your device prefers standard Type C-PD or QC3.0

Either way, it's a lot better then the Belkin one in the above deal.

      • Much better deal

  • Anyone know a USB-C one that can charge my Samsung Chromebook Pro? I thiiiink it might need 45w but not sure.

  • This one for $49 from Kogan seems MUCH better value

60 W for USB C with Power Delivery
