[Xbox 360] Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas $2.99 @ Xbox

550

The weird discounts on this one continue, get in while you can.

Was just under 2 bucks the other day when I picked it up, well worth 3 bucks in any case, get in before it corrects itself again. Kinda weird how there's been 2 (presumable) price errors so close, but whatever, I think it's meant to be on sale for around 12 bucks IIRC.

This is the 360 port of the Android version of the game, complete with auto saves, a new lighting engine, a few removed songs, and other minor changes, opinions differ on this version, but in any case, it is backward compatible, and the cheapest way to play San Andreas on a current generation console.

Bought it for the earlier discount and fired it up for a bit of nostalgia but the graphics have not aged well!

    • Yeah did the same. Felt the same

This is a port of the Android version. It's got a new lighting engine, among other things. The older engine, in dumb people terms that I can understand, effectively made the image look a bit darker and blurrier at times, which in turn resulted in a better looking image overall. The current version is technically better looking, with new reflections and higher res textures, but the actual end visuals will look a little smoother and prettier on the OG console. If you're after that, but don't wanna deal with AV cables and busting out an old console with a corded remote, the PS4 version is just the original PS2 version with a few songs removed and the same old engine and textures, but it's all being rendered at a higher resolution through the glory of emulation.

tl;dr yeah, it looks a little nicer on PS4 though

Isn't the PS2 version famous for having appallingly bad motion blur though?

Also you just said both version of GTA:SA are better looking which I don't understand. Technically.

        • Yeah. It looks a little nicer on the emulated PS4 version, but I've always thought the game was pretty ugly, especially coming off Vice City a few years earlier.

The new lighting in this version kinda makes it look a bit more…cartoony, I guess, in my opinion anyway. The old version was by no means a masterpiece visually, but it looked a decent bit more gritty and realistic than the over colorful at times shiny new version. At least to me. Really, I don't give a crap at all, I love the game either way and the worst thing they did was removing the ability to tap X to run or cycle faster than just holding it.

      • It's a shame, because the Original Xbox version is the definitive console release. Releasing that version on Backwards Compatibility with Xbox One X Enhanced would be been incredible.

        • That's what I was hoping for when they surprise said that the original disc (what I used, before buying this) would become compatible.

I'm still very glad that either way, if you have a disc you get a copy, that's cool, but man, I'd love the old version. Plus custom soundtracks (as good as Radio X and KDST were) was hella cool way back when in the Xbox versions of the "PS2 trilogy"

    • Just pretend you are young again.

  • Does anyone know if you can buy this with money in your wallet? Or only credit card

    • I was only able to purchase with CC or PayPal. I tried with credit and it didn't give me an option.

Why would you think it's a price error the game is like 15 years old

    • Because it was $1.94 the other day, then went back up to 11 or 12, which is what it's often on sale for, and now is back down to 3 again. It's happened a couple of times in the past with this one, being offered weirdly cheap for a while then bumped back up. The original price I think is something around 20 odd bucks I think, not 100% though.

  • "Current Gen" 🤔

An Xbox game, ported to Android, ported to Xbox 360, then played on an Xbox One through backwards compatibility, is still a game being played on a current gen console.

Jokes aside, GTA V isn't even a current gen game really

        Take that back!

        • +1

Vice City can be played on a PS4
GTA V can be played on a PS4

Both launched on previous generation consoles. VC on the sixth gen, and V on the seventh. Neither are current, gen eight games.

      • Jokes aside, GTA V isn't even a current gen game really

I agree. It's a great game with great visuals, but it was developed to support the PS3/Xbox 360 as the lowest common denominator (which are 13 year old consoles). There is no Xbox One X or PS4 Pro enhanced support either.

No doubt this is partly why people have such high hopes for RDR2, until GTA VI is announced.

RDR2 Online will have DeLoreans, right?

        • +3

@muncan: It has Delores, but that's not really the same thing.

        • @guidedlight: close enough!

  • GTA SA was a great game. I replayed it through my Shield TV (android) when it was ported over.

  • The thumbnail reminds me of the flying school mission. Hated it so much. Nonetheless, this is the greatest game of all time, still replay the whole game occasionally

  • Spewing I paid $12 for it a few months ago.

  • This one a lot better than the ps2 version in terms of draw distance?

  • awesome thanks for this cheap as chips

  • Thanks Duke. Didn't need it and I'll unlikely spend too much time playing it but wanted to avoid trying to get a controller on the Steam version. Me thinks all 3 games in the trilogy really should have full controller support! I'm sure alot of people originally enjoyed them that way.

  • Comes up as $14.99 + tax for me.

    What am I doing wrong?

    • No idea dude, just checked and it's still 2.99 for me. Try incognito mode maybe? Sorry I'm not of more help.

      • I see it as 2.99 but then click buy and a popup comes up and says it'll charge me the $15. RIP
