  • Grill lid is a good idea.

I bought this unit for 49.90 like 4 years ago and they also claimed it was 349 RRP

But seriously - this 349 RRP is a sham.

How is the enamel coating holding up?

Purchased! Thanks a lot for sharing!

  • What is the material of the pot itself? All i can see in the specs is that it has cast iron handles. however in the 3.8L description it says welded stainless steel handles.

    • I read somewhere (might have been the KA website) that it is coated porcelain with iron handles - which at first worried me, but the fact it states its suitable for gas cooktops and KA gives a lifetime warranty on the smaller pot pushed me over the line.

  • Not a smooth interior unfortunately. Reading the reviews on the kitchen aid website:

BTW dicksmith have the empire red version of this in 5.7l for $89 also and a few other different colours for those seeking one

  • We have the larger 5.7L version which is mostly used for baking bread but also stews, casseroles etc on the stovetop. With bread it's heated up to 280 degrees in the oven for about an hour and a half and we have done this multiple times a week for years with no issues. I'd recommend it - we paid $99 at costco about 2-3 years ago.

    • does it seriously need 1.5 hours for pre-heating? surely like 30 mins would do it. How weak is your oven

      • Nah that's total time - usually pre-heat about 30-45 mins and cook for about 35-40 mins at 220

        • Do you bake the bread with the pot upside down (lid down)? If so, do you get large ridges in your bed?

If not, does the bread fall out easily enough when it’s cooked?

Do you cut the bread with a serrated knife (knife with serration)? Do you use butter or margarine on the bread? Do all members of the family enjoy the bread, or just you?

        • Great questions, I'm also looking at this for bread baking and I'd like to know the answers.

@gasman70: nah cook right side up, bread has never stuck, comes right out.

I've tried on the pizza steel and steaming the oven but the pot is easier and cooks better.

          That's pot bread

Looks great mate. Thanks for the info.

    Microwave Safe!?

    • It's cast iron. Iron and microwaves don't mix.

      • That's what I'm saying. It says on the 5.7l one it's Microwave Safe.

        • Oh! Right… surely that's a mistake, OR that's why it only has a 5 year warranty as opposed to the lifetime warranty on the small one? lol

      • Depends what microwave. My Panasonic inverter microwave handles metal no problem.

        • LG inverter should be ok too
