iPhone X Sales

How long does everyone think until the iPhone X run out sales start?
Will there be any bargains now the Xs is out?

    X days.

    There are always bargains.

    • There are always no bargains on apple products because apple control the price world wide.
if JBHF dare to give 10% off apple will not allow them to sell. JBHF will follow apple to hell.

      • Ohhh, he meant Apple bargains?

Hmm, the way I can see it:
    Small: iPhone 7 < iPhone 8 < iPhone Xr < iPhone X < iPhone XS
Large: iPhone 7 Plus < iPhone Xr < iPhone 8 Plus < iPhone XS Max

So its still one of the best iPhones you can get, and since they stopped production, there's only the leftover stock to dwindle out.
I don't really expect them to crash in price, certainly not with any significance.
Besides, you're probably more likely to buy a Brand New iPhone Xr cheaper than get a Used iPhone X. So it doesn't make much sense to look for an iPhone X at this stage.

Personally, I'd suggest getting the iPhone 7 Plus. It has a crisper, larger screen than the iPhone Xr. Has a really long battery life, longer than the iPhone 7/8/Xr/X, and equal to the iPhone 8 Plus and XS, but shorter than the XS Max. Both processor and camera wise they are almost equal to the XS Max, in that, its inferior on-paper but in practice there's very little difference. It also will support the latest iOS version for a while, comes with IP67 waterproofing equal to their latest flagships. However, it does come with TouchID and Aluminium build which are superior… at the expense of Animoji's and (slow) wireless charging.

There's probably another 1-2 years until Apple can introduce ThumbID and fix the notch issue, so there's no rush to get into their latest lineup (though I suspect that they will have a record year with the Xr). So the real bargain is "how long can you go without upgrading".

    • Good advice "So the real bargain is "how long can you go without upgrading"."
I'm thinking the Xr is physically too large for my liking..

    • XR lasts up to 1.5 hours longer than the 8 Plus.

So how does "Has a really long battery life, longer than the iPhone 7/8/Xr/X" ring true about the 7 Plus, if it's equal to the 8 Plus, and the XR has a better battery than the 8 Plus.

XR is the way to go unless you can afford the XS right now (assuming you're in need of a new phone).

      • On paper, the iPhone X was supposed to have a longer battery life than the iPhone 8 Plus. It turned out it was the other way around.
And the iPhone 8 Plus is more efficient, but has a smaller battery than the 7 Plus… that's why they're equal.
The new chips will help use less battery than before, but Apple has further cut down the battery sizes, so they're not much better than the iPhone X. I would expect the iPhone XR to do better, because the LCD display uses less power and the resolution is lower, but I see Apple giving it the same battery as the XS or lower.

The point I was trying to make is that the iPhone 7 Plus will have the best battery life, or equal to the flagships 8Plus, XS, Xr (maybe), but it should be lower than the iPhone XS Max.

Overall, the Xr is good value but the 7 Plus is not much worse but significantly cheaper, so its even better value (just less "shiny").

PS: The A11-Bionic theoretically doubles the performance of the A10. However, in practice there's very little difference between the A10, A11, A12. The only place you can find a difference is when using the iPhone to encode a video via an App (or slightly differences with Fortnite). However, the RAM does make a difference to how many Apps you hold in the background. And there is a difference in the GPU performance. It's definitely faster than the A9, now that iOS Apps support multithreading properly, and they do use significantly less power/battery life because of the Low-Power cores.

If I was to lock-in to the iOS Ecosystem here's how I would upgrade:
        ………2009 3GS < 4 < 4S < 6 < 6S Plus < Xr ….2019
        Buy: $1100, $950, $900, $999, $1300, $1200 the average price upon release
        Sell: $600, $600, $200, $500, $350 sell asap when you've made the upgrade
        Net: ($6,500 buy) - ($2,300 sell) = ~$4,200 over 10 years, or $420 yearly, $35 monthly, $8 weekly, or $1.15 daily
(I would expect this $420 figure to double and triple if you have a habit of buying more frequently, or selling too late)

    • I would high recommend not to get iPhone 7 plus because 8 plus doubles 7 plus's CPU performance

  • I was also wondering about this. Unsure whether to get an X in the current eBay sales for around $1250 before they sell out or hope the Xs is up on eBay when they have their 19th anniversary coupons

  • Its a shame Apple bullies all the retailers. The price on the X shoulda dropped heaps after an year but then its apple. Hope they realise they are on a decline.Samsung and Android FTW.

Apple does not bully retailers, in fact this is illegal in Australia for a wholesaler to do this, just take a look at the ACCC website (anti-competitive), there is plenty of content on this type of behavior.

The fact is that margins on Apple products are tiny for retailers. A retailer isn't going to offer a discount below their retail and 10% off is basically their buy price.
The retailer then has to make money on apple care and accessories.

If you see a discount of more than 10% off local Apple stock, then Apple has discounted the wholesale rate.

JB Hi-Fi did have $250 off a few days ago. As such, I am going into JB Hi-Fi tomorrow to try and get a discount now on the X. The one benefit we do have is that the phone is 1 year old, and a model old - when compared to the Xs. So hence the price difference should be less than $50. I'll let you know how I go.

    • Did you had any luck with this :) Thanks

      • Hey mate, managed to pay $1399 for the iPhone X, so not the best, but again much better than elsewhere. I had a $200 JB HiFi gift card from the Telstra BYO Sim deal, so used that to my advantage. One thing to note is that JB HiFi Broadway did have a lot of iPhone X(s) left in stock, so there wouldn't be a runout sale (if that, because the sales rep and manager from Broadway did tell me that the $250 off last week was unheard of, even though now the iPhone X has been discontinued. During the iPhone 5 runout the price was only slightly less than the 5s, and higher than the 5c to maintain competition). Another good thing to note is that the case and screen protector supply is minimal now for official iPhone X (although, apparently you can use the iPhone Xs cases and protectors just fine?). I managed to get 20% off the genuine apple leather case (last one in stock) and 50% off the belkin glass screen protector. Good luck mate in your endeavours, however as a final remark some stores are starting to sell out of the iPhone X, so if you do become a bit greedy you might miss out!

EDIT: Just note, if you do go in store it is paramount that you purchase a fast charger. The sales rep might give you a 20-40% discount. It is much better to buy it then, because I bought the iPhone on Saturday morning, and by Saturday night I am still looking at purchasing a fast charger for myself.

  • No

  • The RRP on the X has dropped $100

    X 64GB $1479
    X 256GB $1729

Apple has it listed as available at "selected authorised resellers"
They are not selling it themselves, i would not expect the price to drop much more.

    • The price wouldn't drop much below $1400, because after that the appeal is no longer on the new iPhone Xs, but more on the iPhone X (reducing profits, and demand for the new iPhone which is something that Apple doesn't want. That is the explicit reason why Apple has discontinued the X, to ensure that people will buy the Xs over the X, because they are virtually the same).

  • I just got one at OW for $1642. OW has it listed for $1749 and JB has it listed for $1729 so the 5% pricebeat brought it down to $1642.

Not a bargain really… some people have been able to get OW to pricebeat Amazon for under $1400 but that's opportunistic and luck of the draw (whether you get an amateur operator when you call up).

Australian stock on these from authorised retailers seem to be drying up though, so unless you want to take your chances with a grey import get in quick. Equivalent XS 256 is an extra $240 for not a whole lot more (same camera, same screen, apparently a faster chip which barely anyone will notice).

  • I was one of the ones who managed to snag a 256gb X yesterday from Officeworks price beat the Amazon deal. Got it for $1367, plus GST refund when I travel next weekend. Can't complain about the price.

    • Don't forget to declare it when you come back in the country if you are going solo, as you'll breach your duty-free limit. Obviously if you are travelling with others you can combine the limits. Nice price.

    I picked up a 64gb X from Officeworks for $1234,05, price match/beat from mymobile.com.au

I took a gamble given that the XR would be starting from roughly the same price $1200 but even with the chipset bump, in all other aspects would be considered a downgrade/sidegrade from the X.

You good sir and a genius. I am sick of all the price jackers on eBay that I don't even trust 100% are AU stock.
I'm heading to OW now, wish me luck!

  • I just got an iPhone X 256 deal with OW as well at $1400ish. I also asked about their price beat policy and got the following:
    - nation wide so it can be Brisbane or Melbourne competitor stores etc.
    - Australian stock
    - Physical store for item pick up
    - Some means they can reference the listed price for comparison like website or catalogue
I’m sure there are other terms but above is the main info they check I suppose.

  • OK so I was salty at buying a 256 X for $1,642 after seeing these comments that I took it back to OW and refunded it, then got them to sell the same phone back to me by price beating mymobile - so ended up getting it for $1,471 - true ozbargain style. Not as good as the guys who got it for $1,367 but I wasn't quick enough on that amazon deal and $400/20% cheaper than the equivalent xs is good enough for me.

  • My iPhone 6 Plus is still working fine.

I’ll probably wait for the new 5G model before upgrading.

    • May be waiting a while reading some media reports.

      • That’s good. It means I’ll get more life out of my iP6+ for a couple more years.
