Melbourne Airport - Long Term Parking

Going to japan for a week in october and am looking at parking options at melbourne airport. did a quote via their website and it ranges from $150 - $300, thats a bit rich!!!

ive only ever parked at melbourne airport, and not the various 3rd party car parks nearby. just seeing if anyone has experience with these and recommendations. undercover parking would be a bonus :)

ps: departure and arrival times are a bit crazy so it would be inconvienant to ask for someone to drop me, therefore i need to drive

I usually use Ace airport parking - multilevel, undercover parking, and frequent minibus transfers to the terminals about 10 minutes. Lots of discount codes available too.

  • Uber it

  • Always book the car park as soon as you book the flights! The more time between booking and using the parking they cheaper it gets with those guys.

I've got 10 days coming up that I booked 4 months ago. Cost me $70 for 10 days.

Remember too that you pay per day at Melb Airport so if you pre book put your leave time as like 11.59pm, that way if your flight is delayed you don’t get charged more.

  • We used Melb long term airport parking once. I forget how much it cost but it was a bargain compared to nearby private parking facilities - until we retrieved our car and found out that somebody had cut out the catalytic converter from the exhaust system….. not so much a bargain then, having to have it replaced.

We had previously and now still do use one of the nearby parking facilities - last time we used Jetport and had no problems whatsoever. I'd highly recommend a parking service as opposed to the long term airport car park.

  • We have found the external parks are more convenient that the airport long-term park. Their shuttles are usually quick, and they move your car to the 'reception' area for a quick departure. In the airport long-term, the bus calls at multiple stops for pick-up / drop off, and then you need to get from / to your car and the nearest stop.

There are a few nearby but we use A1 parking. Check to make sure if they are under cover or not, as our car was slightly hail damaged on one occasion (would have been at the airport long-term as well).
Some of the parks offer a concierge so you come back to a clean car, ready to go when you arrive.
Weigh up the costs and what is important to you.

    • i googled one of the "undercover" car parks, and it was basically just a tarp! undercover to me means in an actual building/carpark

  • I wouldnt leave my car where near the melbourne airport long term carpark unless you drive a shitbox. As people have mentioned, the third party secure carparks around are much safer and convenient. It only takes a few minutes to the airport and the shuttles are very reliable.

I personally like United because you park yourself, while a number of the other companies only offer "valet" service where you need to hand them your keys.

I've used Busy Beaver many times, and have always been pleased. Normally costs around $30 for a weekend.

Avoid the smaller ones. They don't have as many shuttle buses, so you'll be waiting for longer to get picked up.

I would recommend BB, Ace Airport Parking, or Andrew's Airport Parking. Just go with the cheapest of those three and you should be fine.

  • interesting to read comments about vehicles being damaged, i thought they had security access and cameras
