Bought iPhone X, Need Solution for Fast Charging

Hi all,

I recently purchased the iPhone X, and as such I need a fast charger for it. I do see that Apple sells a 30W USB Charger, and the cable, but for $110.
Bear in mind I do receive the Employment Purchase Program discount of 10% for accessories from Apple. Where else would I be able to purchase a charger from, but cheaper?
Last night it took 3:20 for the phone to go from 20-100% using the new lightning cable in the box and the Samsung 2A Fast Charger.

TL:DR OP needs fast charger for iPhone X, and doesn't want to buy from Apple.

"and doesn't want to buy from Apple."
then search here at ozb at the right top corner search area. if you see expired deals, visit all those stores maybe the price is now even cheaper. then share with us.

    cheers!

    • it sounds so simple!

What you need is the Apple USB-C to Lightning cable from Apple (or any retail outlet that sells the Apple branded ones) and then literally any charger that supports USB-C PD (doesn't have to be Apple). I'll start you off with a search link from OzBargain and eBay

SO buys a $1500+ phone, yet doesn't want to buy the $100 charger for it. Cool

Who would want to pay $110 for a charger?

      • +10

A person who pays $1500 for a phone.

Who would want to pay $110 for a charger?

Why would you pay $1500+ for a phone that DOESN'T come with a fast charger? That really should be the question.

For the price Apples charges, you think they could toss in a fast charger in the box! Don't really see the point in going cheap now after forking out all that money.

After spending all that money, I don't have any money left to pay for a fast charger. Besides I paid nothing close to $1500+, and got the stupidly expensive leather case to go with it haha.

        • @Hungrybonegaming:

I don't have any money left to pay for a fast charger

If you're tight on money, don't buy the phone in the first place?!?!

        • @Oz8argain: I'm a student living at home, so as such I don't have any living expenses. I pay $25/month on Dropbox, and Google play music. That's it. So purchasing an iPhone like that, is ok, as it won't affect my ability to pay expenses. But then having to pay the extra for the charger might.

        • @Hungrybonegaming:
you are literally saying you will have less than $100 left in your bank after buying this expensive phone.

        • @Oz8argain: I have more than $100 left… but seriously find me someone that would buy an iPhone X then pay another $111 for the fast charger?

        • @Hungrybonegaming: I work in a well known company, no one here has this issue. I won't say much since you're a student and just wants to enjoy new tech once in a while, best of luck.

    • If you can buy a similar performing charger for cheaper, why would you then buy an Apple one? Regardless of how much the phone costs.

Just because you can afford a Ferrari, doesn’t mean you won’t try and save some money when you can.

Most of the people I work with have iPhone X's supplied to them by my firm and do not pay a cent.

Regardless of phone purchase price, a $110 phone charger is egregious and it's entirely reasonable to seek out a cheaper yet equivalent third party solution.

      • a $110 phone charger is egregious

Its inline with Apples pricing policy. Its like buying a merc/bwm and then complaining about the servicing costs.

Most of the people I work with have iPhone X's supplied to them by my firm and do not pay a cent.

Then they should go back to their work and ask for a fast charger or just put up with the slower overnight charger.

        • Or buy a 40 dollar Belkin and enjoy the best of both worlds?

  • Did you try using the cable and the charger in the box? I find my iPhone 8 takes like 1.5 hours from <20 to 95 using the products supplied with it, but significantly longer using the old charger and cable from my previous iPhone.

No not yet, but I do find the 5W 1A to be completely useless altogether

    • Tried using the 12W Apple One, and seems to work much nicer. Had it lying around from an old iPad. Cheers mate for your suggestion.

You draw the line @ a charger to cheap out?

    • -1

There may have been a good quality charger (Belkin for example) that was cheap, or anyone else might know a solution that would work?

      • I don't think a cartoon has appealed to me so much in my life…

        • Its a great cartoon and applies to so many things in life ;)

You can literally print money when you have people like this who buy iphone X.

    • +1

And what is your reason for making this comment?

    • Apple appeals to almost everyone. It's actually admirable..

TL:DR OP needs fast charger for iPhone X, and doesn't want to buy from Apple.

Then you should have bought an Android phone with a fast charger included in the box…

  • Just ask Siri :)

  • I bought one of these albeit the EU version as a secondary charger for my Macbook. Does the job. You will still need to buy the Apple USB-C to Lightning for fast charging however.

  • Do you need a fast charger, or would portable charging be a suitable alternative? You could consider a power bank.

    • I need fast charging, but I already do have two portable charging banks. I loved the fact that with my old S7 it would charge super quick though.

Solution: Sell the overpriced phone and buy literally any android phone.

My $349 Moto g6 comes with a fast charger.

    • Mate listen I have had a Samsung Galaxy S7, but the amount of issues I had during warranty, that Samsung would not cover was unbelievable. Similarly, my dad had an iPhone 5 (which was 5 months out of consumer warranty) and Apple did still fix it up under no charge to us. Sure some people aren't going to like an iPhone, but for someone who already uses everything else in the ecosystem, this phone so far has just worked and I have no complaints. You have no place to justify against Apple here, when I'm trying to ask for something that I want to know.
I think that you should accept the fact that some people do want to pay for "an overpriced phone", maybe because I have had enough shit phones in my life to know that for something I will use 6 hours a day, every day the best thing to do is to buy something expensive so you won't regret it.

Either i must be extremely lucky or other people are extremely unlucky.
Ive owned Galaxy s1,s3,s4,Note 3,note 4, S6 edge and s7 and only the s7 is died due to me dropping from too high up. every other phone ive owned has never had any issues hardware or software. My brother's Iphone x completely died and wouldnt turn on, My other brother's Iphone 8 charge port died.

You asked for a solution and i gave one, don't be mad it's not an answer you like.

        • It's not a general solution I was asking in regards to a fast charger for my iPhone, was it?

    • -1

Why is it that every Android fanboy's response always ends up them trying to sell the benefits of their respective phones?

The OP wanted to know how to find a good value fast charger, that's it. You guys just need to understand that not everyone wants what you have.
