Good price, but sj4000 is out of date.
For same price Eken H9 have better spec and video quality. I own both of them.

    • is there one thats top of the line in terms of video quality? i dont care about 4k

but 60fps 1080p with good colour would be great. i still use my sj4000 but its got a bug whereby it resets the date if the battery runs out. it overwrote my footage during my last holiday

also the image is grainy, audio is crap and has a very bluish tint. Theres also no image stablisation

SJ4000 is an action camera, similar to GoPro. And yes SJ4000 is getting too old now.
Not a good idea to use an action cam as a permanent dash cam in a car. In hot Australian summer, you want to use a proper dash cam with a supercapacitor, not one running on Li-on battery.

    • I have been using one as desh cam for a few years now, no problems so far.

  • I don't see how this is labelled as a dashcam when it doesn't come with any of the very basic dashcam features like continuous recording or recording when it powers up etc.

The SJ4000 has always been just an action cam (which there is nothing wrong with).

Like, if you need a waterproof dashcam, you probably shouldn't be driving!

    • It's not a dash cam, but sellers just like to throw every label of functionality onto their product in order to appeal to more potential customers.

    • I have two of the original SJ4000 without WiFi, yes they have continuous recording and overwrite the old files when it runs out of memory, it does turn on and off with the car ignition via car cigarette lighter socket.

I have had them for a few years now, the one permanently in the car still works fine, the other i have been using it on my motorised scooter is playing up a bit with the date time keeps going back to the year 2013. I can't complain as i have abused it so much, including having it permanently mounted on the handle bar, parked in the Sun all day, and wired it to the headlight that will turn on and off with the ignition. How did i wire it up? i have the cam in the waterproof case, well not waterproof any more as i have drilled a hole on the side big enough to feed the Micro USB plug in to power it up. I used it under water for Abalone fishing without any issue, yes start recording before getting into the water and don't press any button until you get out of the water.

I paid around $60 ish a few years back from eBay. i have got my money back, if it breaks, so be it.
the one in the car is still working and is used daily. set and forget pretty much. Good video day and night though for the price of it, clear enough to read the number plate. You can find lots of vids on Youtube. I am happy with it.

  • I bought an SJ4000 a couple of years ago. Bought it in Autumn, so when it arrived I tested the waterproof case in the pool and it was fine, but I didn't get to use it properly for about six months.
First time I took it snorkelling it filled up with water and that was the end of it. Later discovered that the case is waterproof as long as you don't press front button underwater.
It was a shame because it was a good camera for the price, took nice, clear underwater videos. Had quite a nice zoom function too.
Also compatible with GoPro accesories (the older ones, anyway).

I've since replaced with a Nikon Keymission at about four times the price, but the widesreen 180 degree has pretty severe fisheye, and 180 degrees means you're subject is often lost among all the periphery that you don't care about, which negates any of the superior image quality.
I'm tempted to get another of these, if only I had faith in the underwater-housing.

Should probably point out that I didn't purchase mine from this seller.
