    cheaper:
    http://www.lycamobile.com.au/offers.aspx?lang=EN

0c/Min +19c flagfall, similar promotion period (conditions apply, as always)

each to their own as lebara/lyca/etc all offer cheap deals depending on your specific needs. Up to the user to decide what is more appropriate for their circumstance

    • thanks!
are there anymore budget companies like these?
also what is the normal rate during non-promotion period?

I saw 1/4c (quarter cent) per minute advertised on the side of a bus today. I'm guessing that is it. They use Telstra 2G network (not 3G/NextG).

Oh, WAIT A MINUTE… googled Lycamobile and found this:

        USERS BEWARE !

    • any idea how long a topup is valid for using lyca? lebara is valid for 3 months

  • It also says that mobile calls to India, China, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Thailand are 0c/min. Good deal!!

  • I'm trying to find the monthly rate for the plan - technically it's a 25c untimed phone call.

With pennytel with a pennytel sim ($8 a month) you could do it for 8c untimed a call but its a bit of messing around doing the "smartdial" stuff.

Cheaper but at the cost of convenience.

I do like the look of this though, very slick, haven't even checked lycamobile yet.

  • I called my mate in Hong Kong. Although Lebara charged me 1c/min + 15c flag (old rate). My mate was charged for picking up the call
    Be careful with these deals

    • Hmmm…. does your friend have free incoming calls in the first place?
It only in Australia where all phone plans have free incoming calls.

    • Mobile calls charged both ways in Hong Kong, not like Australia with free incoming.

    • Your mate in Hong Kong doesn't know his phone rates.

I had the same problem with friends in USA. Cheap for me to call them, expensive for them to answer. Back to Skype it is!
