Perfect. Thank you.. Starting a painting job this weekend.

    • Double check the delivery times. I only say this because my order confirmation states 4-8th of October for delivery. Which doesn’t bother me since I have enough spare tape for 1 room.

      • for me it said expedited delivery for this Friday.

    In Ozbargain Orange, I hope.

    • Sadly I didn’t get the choose the colours. But I shall paint a section of the wall ozbargain orange in your honour (maybe if I can get approval)

maybe if I can get approval

Pretty sure Scotty will say yes if you ask him.

        • It will be 100% yes from Scotty. It’s my family we must convince.

        • @Deuce:

I'd ask Scotty to speak to your family.

  • How does this compare to cheaper ebay ones? Are they worth the extra cost?

This stuff is great for 3d printing as well!

  • I struggled to find a tape strong enough to not have paint seep underneath it yet not rip the paint off the wall (when I was doing the adjacent door frame)

Anybody else have this experience? What tape does everyone use?

    • This has happened to me once so far (with scotchblue), the paint seeped and got onto the wall. But it was small and I couldn’t see it when standing at a distance.

Bear branded painters tape does well in not letting the paint seep but it struggles when it comes to removing. So each brand does it have its pros and cons but I’ve chosen to stick with Scotchblue just purely because it’s easier to remove.

    • Not necessary to use tape.

Just cut in, with a decent brush it isn't that hard and there is a trick to it, you don't have to cut right into the corner you just need a steady hand and a straight line. The naked eye cannot see the 5mm difference if it's a straight line

How much is delivery as for one might not be worth it

I'm a long time house renovator.

Not all masking tape is created equal - you really do get what you pay for.

This stuff is the real deal

I haven't used much of this stuff, but I can echo this. I'm a sparky and see many of the painters using this stuff. The cheaper stuff seeps, rips easy and also leaves behind residue.

This stuff will potentislly seep too if left on for too long, etc but you will get a bit more play out of it as it's a better quality.

    Don't forget 6% cash back!

  • Curious to know the shelf life of this stuff if kept in moderate, room temp garage?

I've got use for a couple of roles but would need to buy a few to make the most of free shipping.

"The recommended shelf life for masking tapes is generally one year"

      • Cheers, standard. I suppose I should have expected as much though, anyone that uses enough of this stuff, is less likely to have let it sit any longer than a few months, let alone a year.

Anyway, thanks for that. I'll probably just buy it as needed.

I'd say this should be added to the above deal:
    https://www.amazon.com.au/ScotchBlue-Applicator-Advanced-Pro…

the tape itself is almost the same price!

    • Added thanks.

My condolences. I (profanity)' hate painting. I need to do some frames and the lounge ceiling at my house and I keep putting it off.

    • Took me a while to patch the ceiling. So I know how you feel. I’m not even close to finished, I’ve so far only done 3 rooms. With about 85% to go.

  • Are you using paint from aldi ? $39 for 10 litres in antique white and brilliant white.

    • Nope. Using Dulux paint. If Aldi had them on sale earlier I would have gone with them for the ceilings. Shame they didn’t, it’s cheaper than what I paid for the dulux.

U dont need to tape up around frames and skirting boards. Just get a really good brush. Like "monarch oval cutters" if u thin the paint with a little water its easier to make a perfect line also. The quality of the brush does like 80% of the work.
If your using tape to tape a line, like doing stripes on a wall. U dont need this tape. Regular painters tape from bunnings will do fine (the yellow bear brand painter tape from bunning is the best). It wont bleed through ANY painters tape if u press it down firmly and paint the colour that u just taped over FIRST
(paint over your taped line) then paint the colour u want over that after it dries. The colour u painted first seals the edge. So any paint bleeding through under the tape Is suposed to be that colour anyway. U couldnt get a more perfect edge.

    • Wish I knew this earlier but I need to tape up because I don’t have steady hands to do a straight line on the skirtings/frames/trims.

But it’s good to know, thanks for providing advice to others on here.

      • Good tip about the brush, thank you. I might have to lookup some videos on cutting in without masking. 40% of the time painting is spent on prep (washing and masking) for me.

      • A decent cutting/framing brush will almost lock itself into the correct configuration to do a straight line along skirting or cornice once you've gotten the hang of how to hold it and the right pressure.

The way I do it is by using a "pencil" grip on the brush and only dipping the very end of the bristles into the paint. I start a small distance away from the thing I'm trying not to paint and then once I can see that the brush has a good shape I drift closer to the border and get a nice line going. After the edge is done I feather the paint thinner and thinner away from the border to a distance of about 20cm. Then when I go over the main wall with a roller I get a nice blend with no obvious frame visible once the job's completed.

I'm not a pro painter but I'm happy with the results I get.
