Telstra broadband service & Telstra Wi-Fi Modem required

Decent alternative if you dont want to spend $300-$500 on other mesh wifi boosters (if you need more then a 2 pack then look at mesh wifi setup), got pair today has boosted wifi to weak spots that was dropping out or getting under 10mbs now getting 35-49mgbs, other option argue with telstra how crap the modem wifi range is & they will send it for free lol

  • Will it work with Telstra cable ?

    • call to double check but should work

    • +1

Yes. They are a WiFi access point run out of a ether port on the modem and then point to point for the other disk (like a WiFi extender). I have used these on both cable and now a FTTP NBN connection.

From the quoted review, the Telstra Smart Wi-Fi Booster performed poorly just when you needed it the most: streaming p.rn to the far recesses of the house. When you have nothing to hide and position yourself at medium & close proximities to the wireless router, the Booster performed no better than the Gateway alone.

  • I've looked at these before and never understood why one needs to be plugged in to the modem and sit right next to it. I ended up going for a higher spec WiFi router and it did the job well enough. Still on ADSL 2+

    • They're probably assuming your house to be networked allowing you to have it patched in elsewhere.

  • My telstra router gave me endless problems replaced it.

  • At zapals similar gear cost 10$

Dont bother. Just get a proper setup like ubiquiti

  • I bought one of these and they will only extend through wifi you cannot use lan. To clarify the main unit plugs into the router but the second one will use the wifi and both lan ports on the second unit will share internet. I returned it because it didn't have the same functionality as all the other mesh setups.

  • So this is not powerline?

  • other option argue with telstra how crap the modem wifi range is & they will send it for free lol

    Has anyone successfully done this?
