Overpaid for an Item

Hello,

My friend had recently bought a pair of glasses for $500 and the same model can be bought elsewhere for $150. That's an over payment of over 300%.

Is this perfectly legal?

  • I like that people are still answering the question.

  • I went to spec savers to buy a new pair of glasses, the person started showing me glasses based on style and looks, after a bit I said the ones he is showing me are too expensive, I said I didn't want to spend more than $100. I picked up two pairs for $100.

  • Yes as long as the Price correctly was displayed to public.

If your friend has used 28 Degree credit card and has shopper protection then he might be able to get the difference amount from them

    • Only if the same store they bought from drops the price.
Shopper protection isn't used to pricematch other competitors..

      • From 24th October it will. I received an email last week that tey are changing they shoppers protection policy from 24th Oct

Extending the benefit to lower prices available at any other Australian retailer*.

        • Are you sure they won't snake their way out like JBhifi does?
Frames + Lens from retailer A does not equal Frames + lens from retailer B, thus not exactly the same?

  • I can't think of anything more perfectly legal. High profits.

  • That's called the idiot tax.

Some people would consider looking around for a cheaper price an idiot discount. Depends how much one's time is worth.

  • Most sunglasses you'll find way cheaper from Europe eBay
Good price protection is offered by some platinum credit cards

Obviously a troll post and everyone fell head over heel for it, welcome to the internet people.

  • Basically everything in this country is overpriced and rip off. That's why we need to join OzBargain to find good deals.

  • "Should have gone to specsavers"

    "My friend"

  • You may have purchased the limited edition…

    • The one with the AMG logo?! Blimey, that's cheap then.

      • You joke, but there genuinely is a whole thing about marking up models with the "AMG sports pack" or similar, which is just some styling and has nothing to do with actual AMG tuned engines.

  • What’s with all the “my friend” posts recently?!?!

embarrassment. Scared of their ozbargain license being taken away.

      • As per the other thread, they risk 10 demerit points

  • Caveat emptor

  • you need to hand in your ozbargain membership

  • It legal but if you can make it illegal that is true ozbargainer :)

  • Was your friend high on something when he paid for a pair of glasses that cost $500???
I mean seriously who TF pays that much for glasses…

I make my own out of card board box

No. Report this to the police officer and it'll spark a fraud squad investigation. You can do 10 years in prison for overcharging someone more than 200%, 25 years for 250% and anything above 300% carries a maximum penalty of 50 years, per offence.

    • Not to mention in certain states and during holidays the penalty could be twice!

  • Cant you make some excuse to get a refund? then go cheaper place?

I must admit that reading & sun glasses business has been ripping Australian people off for a long time.

I could not believe how expensive it was to get a nice pair of glasses.

Haha. It's always "a friend" who does the stupid thing. We've seen all kinds of dumb friends here - one who misses a flight by being on the wrong boarding gate, several ones who get into an "at fault" accident, often without insurance, ones who get caught drunk driving, etc.

And the friend also often happens to be the same person. Like, I'm my own best friend. How hilarious. :)

  • Sounds like your friend made a mistake and is hoping that there's a law that can help undo the mistake, but unfortunately the mistake is entirely theirs to own. Hopefully they will learn from the mistake and look around for better value next time.

Buyer’s Remorse Act of 1967 may cover this?

  • You should buy online, at goggles4u.com

Your first pair for $9.90 Delivered (From Pakistan)

Also there is a store wide 30% off deal right now.

  • I can sell my old, stinky pair of mowing shoes for $6000.
IF I can find a sucker to buy them. Perfectly legal.

      "I'll give you $7000 for them!" ~ OP's friend.
