NBA League Pass 2018-19 - Subscriptions Using VPN (E.g. Canada, Mexico, Argentina etc.) May Be Penalised

Hoping to get some insight on what other's are doing/will do/won't do after being informed of the news…

Didn't create a poll as I wanted some feedback in terms of responses!

In light of this info http://whrl.pl/Rfetv2, courtesy of PainToad I'm pretty worried about auto renewing this coming season's subscription. I'm leaning towards opting out now =(

It seems that NBA/Neulion (and whichever other relevant parties) are cracking down on purchasing NBA LP using one currency, but location of viewing is in another. People have also received comms about this. I personally haven't yet, although that doesn't give me any reassurance on the matter.

They have some t&c's as follows…

Termination: In addition to any other remedies available to Us, whether in equity, at law or otherwise, upon your failure to comply with any of the terms or conditions in this Subscriber Agreement, We shall have the right to terminate your access to the Service and this Agreement immediately. We further reserve the right to discontinue, suspend, terminate or change the Service, or its availability to you, at any time, including in the event that We believe, in our sole discretion, that the primary country in which You access the Service is different than the primary country from which You purchased the Service. If We terminate this Agreement or discontinue your Service subscription for cause (e.g., your breach of this Agreement), you will not receive any refund or partial refund for any charges or Fees already incurred by or billed to you, and We reserve all other rights available to Us in connection with your breach.

And…

IF YOU CIRCUMVENT, OR ATTEMPT TO CIRCUMVENT, ANY BLACKOUT RESTRICTION OR OTHER USE RESTRICTION, WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO IMMEDIATELY TERMINATE YOUR SUBSCRIPTION AND CHARGE AN EARLY TERMINATION FEE OF ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($100.00) (OR SUCH OTHER AMOUNT AS THEN IN EFFECT) TO YOUR DESIGNATED PAYMENT METHOD; IN ADDITION, YOU MAY BE SUBJECT TO LEGAL ACTION BY US OR OTHER THIRD PARTIES.

What are you thoughts on this and what will you do?

Would appreciate some feedback on this!

p.s. Not interested in those that stream for free via betting sites, and other 'fancy' streaming sites.

  • Interesting… Were those t&C in previous years? What's stopping someone from purchasing in country X, and then claiming that you're moving to country y?

    • Well for 2016-17 season I paid in CAD, then when I was up for renewal for 2017-18 season I was offered 10% off auto renewal, but didn't go ahead as I scored a better deal using MXN instead. I needed to correspond with them via email about this and they asked why I changed CAD to MXN and I said I had moved to Mexico for work. In actual fact, they had also applied the 10% off anyway and refunded the difference back to me in MXN! That all went without a hitch.

I don't recall seeing these t&c's in the OP in previous years to this one for 2018-19 season… Hence I'm a bit apprehensive to proceed this time.

Would hate to fork out and pay for the subscription and then get penalised if they do start policing…

If someone could validate if these t&c's were always around or newly put in place it could put some perspective on how to treat the matter for this season.

    • Looking at the Web Archive website, the bit about viewing country/purchasing country has been in the T&Cs since late 2015:

I'm going to take the gamble and let my subscription auto renew in CAD like it did last year and see what happens.

      • Good one thanks for providing that crucial peice of info (link to archive).

I think I’ll do the same as you, but with MXN.
