I'm pretty sure they will be linked via steam account. So you can't use the two versions on two different accounts. Otherwise it seems like a hell of a loop-hole.
Wow, surprised at the price; Portal standalone was $19.99 when it was first released and effectively even cheaper if you bought it as part of the Orange Box. I haven't been following Portal 2's development; is it meant to be longer (Portal 1 took me about 2 hours to finish) and more fully featured to justify the higher price?
It now features cake*. And Co-op multiplayer, better physics (possibly new features of the improved source engine) and editing tools (so you can make your own levels.)

Does that mean people will be making and sharing levels like Little Big Planet? :D (Meaning..the game wont be too short)
Of course it is going to be longer. The original was really just something they wanted to bundle with HL2.. they didn't expect it to be received as well as it did. This is meant to stand on its own.
It's supposed to be a fully fledged game this time around.
