Potentially Faulty Video Card Purchased off eBay. What Is The Best Avenue to Resolve?

Hi all,

I purchased a video card in one of the Penny5 sales early August, it was an ASUS RX570 Expedition OC 4GB GPU.

I am still doing the neceesary analysis and troubleshooting but I think the evidence is leaning towards the GPU being faulty.

I had a look at eBay and tried out the Return Item and it said I was out of the return period.

What do you think would be the best course of action for a replacement? RMA with Asus or go back to the eBay seller?

Help appreciated.

Cheers.

  • I had a look at eBay and tried out the Return Item and it said I was out of the return period.

I can still return items purchased in early August, so check you're clicking the right option (defective)? Otherwise order is to go through the seller first, then directly with ASUS if that doesn't work.

  • Asus has 3 yr warranty which is good. It was slow for me a couple years back but wasnt urgent in my case.

    • Would it be faster to go back to eBay seller or Asus?

      • If it is hardware prob the ebay seller cant fix it. The ebay seller could potentially refund you tho.

  • If you want to claim from the seller you can open a case via Paypal which has a 180 day return window.

However try the seller direct via eBay first. If you don’t get anywhere via eBay messaging then go Paypal.

That said some sellers are hopeless and will refer you to the manufacturer which can make the process a pain. I had that problem with wireless 1. They don’t take responsibility after the sale and refer you to the manufacturer

    • +1

      refer you to the manufacturer

Illegal under Australian Consumer Law.. but some of these eBay sellers can be dodgy so I would expect no less.

  • RMA with Asus or go back to the eBay seller?

Some manufacturers may only provide a remedy if the goods were purchased from an authorised retailer.

The seller should be given the first opportunity to either repair, replace or refund.

  • Have you downloaded the latest driver for your gpu and checked your motherboards compatability, if its an older board it may need to be flashed to work properly or accept the amount of ram you have.

  • Was the seller a supplier? Or a person that doesn't deal in goods?

  • FYI when I fitted the the RX570 I had a completely blank screen, not even POST. Only after flashing BIOS did it work and even then I had trouble getting it to detect properly.
In short the card is probably fine.

  • ASUS will RMA direct no issues, email with receipt

  • I thought eBay have a 120 period to initiate a claim?

  • I bought one of those asus Rx 570 4g oc, and it died after 3weeks of minimal use. Did. Heaps of trouble shooting, but no luck. I contacted seller, they asked for photos, and they replaced it for me with a better unit with no charge( pure luck). I claimed the return postage with PayPal. I

    • Hi,

What photos did you provide to prove the issue? All I would have to show is a blank black screen and perhaps the red solid LED for VGA on the mobo.

Also when you say you claimed the return postage is that because it was an eBay Plus item?

Unfortunately mine is not an eBay plus item.

      • For photos, it was just to show all sides of the device; to make sure it wasn't tampered with or showed signs of burns (according to the seller, as Asus wouldn't except it for warranty). Mine was showing no leds on the board (was showing white when it worked). Couldn't show screen evedence as the was none!
I did buy mine during Ebay plus membership trial, but that had elapsed when it died, but with PayPal, you can claim return postage back on I think up to 5 items a year. Just go into PayPal, click on the transaction, and it will have a refund return postage option. You will need to take a photo of the receipt and the Parcel and submit it to PayPal, and wait for it to be approved.

  • Worst case you've got the ACCC.

Ideally though, there should be a way from Ebay to return a faulty item. If not, the company that makes the card should should have warranty for it.
