Disposal of Corporate IT Hardware

Hi all. My company has a whole heap of computer hardware from our corporate site that needs to be disposed off. These include laptops and desktops.

We want to look at organising a company that would come and purchase the hardware while ensuring that all data is wiped. Has anyone used any companies like this in the Melbourne metro area?

TIA

Never heard of that. Can I have some for free?
The IT places I've worked at normally just throw it all out.

Put it in a microwave then burn it.

    • If not data cleansing themselves, OP's company should ensure they use one of those professional services.

We use EraseIT. They'll pick it all up, erase it, sell it, then they pass on the profit minus commission for themselves.

  • Andersen Consulting?

  • No ones mentioned strong magnetic fields and thermite yet? I hear that's how the pros do it.

    • second this

    • Is there any record at all of anyone ever recovering a modern hard drive that has been overwritten once eg. user formatted without the quick option? Even one time spending millions of dollary doos to do it?

      • Maybe during the bitcoin peak :p

  • We use tes-amm

Have used them a few times.
Secure wipe is fairly cheap, they pay a small rebate if gear is able to be refurbished and everything is certified.

Typical disposal of old, busted junk, some laptops >4yo and miscellaneous stuff has always come in cost-neutral or a few $00 in our favour.

  • I would only use a free e-waste company if I securely wiped all drives myself first. Otherwise use a professional service like EraseIT mentioned above.

  • Thanks everyone for the info, will look at what will be the best fit for our company!
