  • thanks was looking for something like this

    • +7

Same. Sounds like this deal is off the Wahl.

      • I just got mine today and I have a feeling it's not necessarily 'new'. I've taken some pictures for a second opinion here: https://imgur.com/a/LxYJlmJ

There are some marks which i don't really mind but the units (except nose hair trimmer) were pretty greasy and some sort of residue in certain areas. I've bought a grooming kit before but they never came like this. Thoughts??

Wish there was more info on this.

Are they all cordless? Or just two of them? Can you use one of them for beard trimming or just for getting straight lines etc?

    • +1

Got this set at home. The smaller 2 are cordless (AA batteries), the actual clipper is corded. Yes you can use the 'detail trimmer' for beard, but for thick hair, best to use the larger clippers with a proper motor.

These ones are made in China and quality is not same as higher models made in USA.

      • -8

These ones are made in China

Earth and heaven was made by God, everything else (inc this clipper) was made in China. No big deal

        • +8

You clearly don't know anything about the Wahl brand.

      • +3

I just bought a corded Wahl for over $100, made in the USA and it was worth every cent.

        • How did you get it to work on Australian A/C? Struggling with the 50/60 Hz conversion. I've got a loud buzzing noise that sounds really bad even though I got a 110v converter

          • @rorypitt: It arrived with a cheapo US to AU adaptor and it's working perfectly. Actually a mate of mine is having the same issues as you with his old Wahl corded unit.
I have a 110v converter also for another appliance but I haven't needed it for this.

Cheap for a reason. USA made stuff far far superior to this Chinese rubbish that rusts like hell if it gets wet.

    • +1

obviously it's far superior..this is 30bux while the superior alternative is hundreds of dollars

      • +3

Hundreds? I paid about $80, yes made in the US.

      • +1

        Hundreds? Lol, not even close.

    • +3

They might be cheaply made but the motor still has the power to cut your hair unlike those cheap Remington's that keep getting stuck trying to cut hair

    • +2

What USA stuff are you referring to?

      • Made in 'Merica

      • +5

There's Wahl made in USA which is well known for the quality and a whole range of cheap tat made in China versions which are utterly terrible. Everything from the casting/moulding to the blades, not worth a penny.

  • +1

I bought this last time they were cheap. Not a bad machine actually. Two smaller trimmers are battery operated and the big clippers are plug in.

I was really impressed with the amount of attachments they provided in the pack. Lots of options if your doing a DIY haircut at home. I’ve had it for 3 months and it’s already paid for itself in saved haircuts. Great if your not a professional and want something cheap.

  • +2

These are obviously the made in China version.

I've used a set of Wahl (made in USA) clippers for years (>10), recently bought a new set, ~$130 for the V7000 set. I can not speak more highly of Wahl (made in USA) clippers, value for money, they are rock solid. The V7000 almost jumps out of your hand when you flick it on its that powerful. High quality kits. Possibly the item/brand I've been most satisfied with ever, across all of life's items.

    • not associate with Wahl or Shaver Shop

The battery powered detail trimmer is an absolute piece of crap. Very cheaply made. Mine stopped working so I had to reassemble it. There is an issue with the sliding button slipping and the machine losing power.

The clippers work ok so far so worth the price.

Ex owner here. Bought these from Costco a while back and i would say you better off avoiding these. Would not last long and clippers are not sharp enough. Sometimes hairs are not cut and stuck in the blades which is very annoying. I highly recommend buying the coreless hair clippers from Phillips (costs less than $100 and usually has 20% off from ebay) Once you go coreless, you will never go back.

  • +3

Bought this exact set last sale for the same price. Should’ve opted for a better set. You get what you pay for.

Another ex-owner. Tried once, thought of giving it a friend with a dog, decided that would be mean. Put it straight in the bin.

    • Why didn't you donate to the salvos at least?

      • +1

They only accept usable items. Have you tried donating a CRT monitor lately?

        • Ignoring that stupid question, how are almost new clippers 'not usable'?

          • @Skinnerr: They have some quality control thing going on where if it's some knock off/defective crap they won't take it

  • +1

I bought the ones in below link - fantastic close cut. I have a zero haircut all over. Wife is ex-hairdresser, she loves them also.

    • Hey mate could you possibly ask your wife what her take is on ceramic bladed clippers?

    • +1

Thanks I will look into this one.

I get a zero on sides/back every week and thinking of going DIY (well, wifey) zero all over for summer.

    • +1

I went ahead and ordered these US made Wahl Pro 5 Star Legend (wanky name) clippers - arrived Saturday morning - $95 delivered.

Ive not used them yet, but they feel like quality.

  • I bought this kit a few years ago to trim the dog. Not really robust enough, last about ten trims. Dog fur a bit more coarse than hipster beards though. But good value compared to dog groomers.

  • Can anyone recommend a good cordless hair trimmer that'll last?

    • I've just picked up one of these.

      https://www.harveynorman.com.au/remington-rapid-cut-hair-cli…

The reviews are really good. I let my hair and beard get a bit long, but it tore through it with no guard on. Definitely noticed a big drop in power by the end though. It does work whilst plugged in so you won't get stuck.

I think they're made more for maintaining short hair (shaving every week or two), rather than a full on barber's styling set, but the way it cuts is fantastic, and being a curved shape, it's really easy to get your whole heads.

Look around for one on special, i paid $63.95 from HN over the weekend.

      • Do they sell the rest of the shaver separately? ;)

I'd be concerned about slipping/dropping since it's kind of a razor head with no handle..

  • Same price as a haircut in the city. Worth giving it a try!

  • did anyone not get a confirmation email?

  • Yes, I will be cutting a lot of my hair… On my head… With this.

  • I just got mine today and I have a feeling it's not necessarily 'new'. I've taken some pictures for a second opinion here: https://imgur.com/a/LxYJlmJ
