3330

Hey folks found this deal the Belkin 6 outlet surge protector power board (BSV604au2M) it is $17.90 the usual price is $47.20 at Bunnings. This is a saving of $29.30 this seems to be the cheapest price to date.

Not sure of the quality or if the USB ports are each 2.4a but I'd say the USB ports are run in parallel so most likely 2.4amps split with both.

The Belkin Surge Protector, offers extra outlets, power extension from wall outlets and protects valuable electronics from damaging power surges. This power surge protector safeguards your personal computer, printer, hard drives, modems and other hard-to-replace equipment against damage, data loss, file corruption, and system crashes.

    Joule Rating:650

    That's a bit low

    • +2

      what should it be???

    • +1

It's OK for most normal usage, but I do have the older Belkin Gold Series with up to 2000+ Joule Rating for my PC.

      • +3

My $10 old Dicksmith 8 way surge interceptor has a joule rating of 2000. Rip Dick

        • +4

It's a Kogan surge protector, I wouldn't compare Kogan brand to Belkin and also Belkin provide insurance for their protector. It's rare but yes, someone did get payout.

          Mine is 2650J rating.

@Bigboomboom: When the powerboard went off, was there a bigboomboom?

          • +3

            @Bigboomboom: Insurance !?
good luck getting Belkin to actually pay for any damage….
we had no luck after many emails, phone calls, and sending surge protectors back and forth in the post

        • +1

          That's what she said…
          Sorry I had to

          Ouch.

I was reorganising cables the other day and noticed the protected light on my surge interceptor was no longer on. No idea how long it had been that way. I also noticed I got a slight live electric feeling when touching equipment, in swapping out to another powerboard, that feeling disappeared.

          • @cubiq4: Since this deal was on I went to check my DSE surge protector power board too.
Sadly it looks like the surge protection is gone as the green protection light is off.
Having said that, the red fault light is not on and it's functioning fine as a regular power board

            • @edrift: So it has a lifespan?

              • +2

@wtfnodeal: And now a deathspan, too.

              • @wtfnodeal: Yeah.
Not sure how mine died as I have a surge protector on my main circuit breaker too and that is still fine.

            • @edrift: same happened to mine .

          • @cubiq4: Thanks for the heads up! I just checked and no protection light either…

I thought I was going crazy re reading old posts with today's date!

    • +4

This model has a "$30,000 connected equipment warranty". i.e. If your equipment blows while this is wall pluged (not extension corded) in, then you are covered for this amount of damage.

Also the 8 plug is 50 grand.

      • +1

Where about does it say this on the website?

        • +4

          https://www.belkin.com/au/p/P-BSV604-2M%20/

For some reason, the au sub site has the connected equip warranty at 30,000 pounds instead of dollars.

But, on the back of the product from bunnings, it says 30,000 aud.

          • +2

            @metalslaw: 30,000 GBP is ~55,000 AUD. I'll take the 30,000 GBP any day ;)

      • +3

Its more the insurance than the actual protection.

These surge arresters wear out over time as well.

      • +6

        they don't pay…

        • +1

Spoken from experience ladies and gentleman. Sticky this man's post up there.

I have a PureAV one from a long while back that was "unlimited $" from memory. Never had to use it and the power board is still alive and all but I do remember reading the T&Cs of it one time and it was full of exceptions to be afoul of; things like must be connected directly to wall socket, and it can't be 2-pin equipment (must have earth).

Edit: this one, or close enough

  • How fast is those USB? Is this can use for quick charge?

    • +1

      no, just 2.4a

      • -1

Sorry but how big/fast for quick charge?

        • +1

2.4A is shared. Fast when using 1 port and the other is vacant I guess.

        • +1

Quick Charge is proprietary technology from Qualcomm and requires the charger to also implement the technology.

If it doesn't say QC2.0, QC3.0 or QC4.0 the it probably doesn't support it.

          • -5

@mathew42: People really should know the difference between regular fast charging and proprietary QuickCharging

  • Massive footprint.

    • +1

These are good for bulky plugs :)

edit : medium bulky. Large plugs means 1 less plug thou.

      • +1

Too much wasted space on the sides. Plugs are still too close together.

        Thanks to whey protein

  • Dam it!

Why didn't I have this on Friday night. My tv and receiver blew after a nearby strike.

    • +6

I had similar protectors and lost a heap of electrical items due to nearby lightening strike and they protected nothing

Insurance was the answer and the loss adjuster said there was almost nothing that can be done to protect against lightening in a domestic setting except unplug everything in a storm

      • +1

If they were Belkin they have insurance

        • +2

          Insurance !?
good luck getting Belkin to actually pay for any damage….
we had no luck after many emails, phone calls, and sending surge protectors back and forth in the post

          • +3

@sn00ze: Wanna shed some more light on that? Why did Belkin not cover?

            • +1

@batrarobin: We had to send the surge protector to Belkin (at our expense).
They tested the 'protector' and said it was not faulty… no further discussion, despite the fact the the device connected (a Raspberry Pi 2B, approx value $50 ) was fried.

They then sent the protector back (Belkin paid the postage) but it was the WRONG protector ! a different model, some other poor sap's.

So many phone calls later (to speak to a real person), Belkin said that our protector had been tested and was not faulty (so $50 claim still denied…) and they tracked down and returned it to us.

At this stage we were questioning the whole 'testing' process and asked to see the actual test results.

A few more phone calls and we managed to get a scanned test result sheet emailed to us BUT the scan had no identifying numbers / names / model etc, basically it could have been anyones test results…

Some emails and phone calls later but Belkin were playing to time wasting game, no reply to emails, on phone "Sorry manager not in, I can leave a message for him to call you back" … never calls…

SO…. at this stage we start to tire of the whole process and kiss the $50 goodbye, and vow never to buy (or endorse) a Belkin product!

              it was only $50 !

          • +2

@sn00ze: Man that's sh***y. I thought they had a good reputation, that's disappointing to hear.

      • I've been using the APE/Fortron Powerguard gear for years with only one incident. I had one lightning strike which took out the powerboard (must have been a heavy strike). Even though it was 5 years old, they replaced it. All the equipment still worked fine, afterwards, and I coudn't afford to lose the data (thank god for backups though).

    • Lodge a claim through your power distribution company. United energy covered the cost of my damages.

      • I'm just claiming through my home insurance. I don't think there's too much a power distributor can do for a lightening strike.

They're sending someone out to look at the items.

They turn on but the HDMI ports seem to be fried. Hopefully they replace them and don't just try to fix the HDMI ports.

  • +2

It must have been the final straw when I got two of these for $16.20 each yesterday (MSY price match).

    • +1

$18 at MSY are they a clearance item?

  • Was 5 at ballina, now 2. New price wasn't up, but checkout was 17.90.

Checkout person was interested by the price too, so maybe all gone now. I needed 1, but got 2 more for christmas presents :)

  • +2

    price beat officeworks

    • My OW has zero stock of this model, and bulk stock of the 4 and 8 slot… I went in the day MSY started their specials.

  • Got the two left at West Gosford, Officeworks doesn't stock this model.

    • OW do have on their website though.

      • Not at West Gosford.

        • Not at mine either, but they might at other stores.

  • Would the USBs Power a Mini NES / SNES?

    • +1

I've got a slightly different Belkin powerboard (with 8 outlets instead of 6) and I plug my mini SNES right in to the USB port with no problems.

    • +1

Yes. Even the USB ports on a tv would work.

      • Thanks

  • +7

Successfully pricematched at JB Hi fi.The guy was surprised and asked the manager for approval who was shocked aswell but did it anyway…

    • +23

They react as if it's coming from their own pocket.

      • +1

JBHIFI has upped their price match recently and very easy in my experience. Probably because of the pressure from Amazon AU.

  • Grabbed one - thanks OP!

  • +5

2m lead for anyone wondering and cbf clicking through.

  • +1

Wish this had free shipster delivery!

  • I've now bought five of these boards in the last two days. Stocked up for 20 years?

  • +1

Huge board and only 6 sockets

    • The box is also massive!

      • +17

When it comes to boxes, the rule of thumb is to make them at least as big as the thing you wish them to contain.

  • +1

Sold out at Bunnings Nunawading. Some guy got the last one about a minute before I got to the aisle.
No stock at Officeworks Doncaster East.

    • Some ozbargain guy

    • I bought one from Bunnings Nunawading today (07.10.2018) at around 5:30 pm. That someone was me :) Can't believe you're taking about me.
The shelf had none. I asked one of the guys to help me look up on the system and they did have one. That very nice and helpful guy got me that last one from the top storage shelf.
You can still give it a try.

  • +1

Thanks OP, bought 2 at Bunnings Balcatta WA. There was still 2 left available for anyone :)

    • +1

Haha! I picked up one as well at that exact store. I'm from South of the river normally.

      • +1

        Plenty of stock at Joondalup.

  • Guy in Bunnings Innaloo got even a better deal than me. He picked up the 8 outlets and convinced the checkout lady they were on special. So she sold them to him at that price. It wast after he had paid for a couple of them she realized its the 6 outlet one.

    • Haha nice one. The Bunnings I went to knew only 6 outlets were on sale. But funny the 6 outlets shelf price is higher than the 8 outlets shelf price.

    • +4

Hope it fails him, doing that on purpose is nasty. I've had a similar thing done to me once when in retail, still haven't forgotten the feeling of being duped. (Might be time to move on)

      • +1

Officeworks back in the 90s. It wasn't me, but the Returns guy processed a refund on a fax machine and took it out back to be re-priced for clearance. Opened the box… it was the customer's old fax machine

  • Grabbed one today. Thanks OP!

  • Thanks OP! I picked up 2 from Albion. There were still a few left.

  • Cleared the shelf at Cannington store.

  • When does this sale end ?

  • +1

I just want a decent board that’s wall mountable and individually switched. But it's like finding a unicorn.

    • I would guess only a few days. It's probably on sale because Aldi are selling a Bauhn one on Saturday, an 8 way/2 USB, 1.1m cord: $24.99.

  • +1

I have a more expensive Belkin surge protector which was meant to come with a "life time warranty", after 6 years it died and I tried to claim under warranty.

Belkin however claim the "life time" is only 5 years and I would need to buy a new one. Eventually they did swap it under warranty but I wouldn't trust their insurance guarantee. It's more a marketing gimmick.

    • LOL did they say which method they used to calculate life time = 5 years?

      • it's dirty, but other companies with 'modern lifetime guarantees' have said it means until their product is at the end of its product life cycle, i.e. until it is superseded or no longer sold.

        • +3

It sure is dirty, to me lifetime should mean in my lifetime, otherwise it's just a 5 year warranty.

Shame ACCC hasn't had a go over companies who advertise this.

    • Actually no surge protector can last 10 years (unless minimal/no usage), nobody should expect a life time surge protector. They really need to fix the "life time" warranty. 6 years is already a long time.

  • Plenty of stock at Victoria Point

  • Got one this arvo. Price on the shelf may not change but check out is $17.90
