Am I missing something or are people now putting their bread in bags before toasting it? What the hell is the point of these?

    • I suppose it is to avoid mess in the sandwich toaster, but cleaning the reusable bags strikes me as being too much palaver.

      • I thought that was why flipping it upside down existed?

        • +2

Or actually emptying the crumb trays?

          • @Lukian: Is it that time of the year already?

    • Toasted sandwich without a sandwich press..

Make sandwich, put in bag, put in toaster. Bag stops everything leaking out the bottom into the toaster (because your sandwich is vertical, unlike in a sandwich press)

Can also reheat other things like cold pizza, based on the image.

      • I don't know what kind of toaster you have but mine can only fit a single slice of bread in each slot. Certainly not two, let alone two with filling between them.

        • "We're going to need a bigger toaster."

I have a wide mouth toaster and I doubt it would fit two slices in at once for a toasted sandwich. I think these bags are single slice anyway. If you look at the photos none of the bags have two slices in them. Even the ones with lettuce are just one slice of bread.

Also, who the heck puts lettuce in a toaster, anyway?!

    • For people with gluten allergies (coeliac disease etc), cross-contamination when using a toaster that has had regular (gluten) bread is a huge issue - especially when travelling.

Oh, I thought people had started putting their toasters in a bag…
